For readers who believe in reincarnation and have true faith that love finds their way despite the hurdles thrown by the world against them, Spring Banquet is the ultimate romance book.

Reincarnation is the mythological process where a dead person gets a rebirth either in their own form or in the form of some other person.

This novel is filled with action, drama, and thrill that need you to stay glued to the story.

Get your emotions boosted with the portrayal of affection between the main characters. If you’re looking for an easy-to-understand story and a satisfactory ending, this novel isn’t something to miss out on.

Read along to go through the detailed overview of the Spring Banquet.

Part 1: Main Theme of Spring Banquet

The Spring Banquet has a primary theme of romance and love, which involves a storyline of the Princess of Danyang, Li Huaiyu, who led a strict and domineering tenure of her time. During her 8 years of the term, her biggest rival was our male lead Jiang Xuajin.

You’ll find the overall subject of the novel containing Ancient Chinese cultural aspects, some political twists and turns, support from side roles, sweet/bitter romance sequences between the main characters, and their bond.

If you’re looking for a believability or realistic aspect in this novel, then you’ll be highly disappointed by the sudden turns of the plot.

The story proceeds when Xuajin gives Li Huaiyu a poisonous drink that results in her death, but the twist is Huaiyu isn’t completely dead as on her funeral day, she has mysteriously been woken up in the body of the fourth Miss of the Bai House.

Initially, she feels stunned by this reincarnation and, in this disbelief, leaves the house to watch her funeral procession with her own eyes, where she finds Xuanjin.

After processing her rebirth, Huaiyu decides to seek revenge for her murder from Xuanjin.

She prepared a detailed plan which included seducing Xuanjin to marry her and enticing his love for her to use against revealing the truth.

Part 2: The Positives and Negatives of the Spring Banquet

Just like any other novel, Spring Banquet also has its highlights and drawbacks which make it unique:

The Positives:

Following are a few positives from Spring Banquet:

  • Easy-to-Understand Concept

When it comes to the overall structure of the love, everything from writing to concept and keeping up with the background of every character is quite easy.

You’ll find it entirely engaging with the unique romance between the lead characters, the development and growth of their bond, and how the environment has fluctuated. The story has made us weep countless times over, and the smooth integration of rebirth in the story has made the plot even more enjoyable.

  • Dominant Female/Soft Male

Unlike several other novels, the male lead always acts as a protective and alpha male, while the female lead is secured and pampered. Xuanjin, in comparison, has served more as a soft and attention seeker character, and Huaiyu is more dominant and rogue.

  • Character Development

Throughout the story, you can observe visible character development with both leads. Huaiyu started off as an arrogant, revenge-seeking ruler and turned out to be a loving wife. Xuanjin was a greedy, lustful emperor becoming a dedicated and affectionate husband.

  • Breaking Stereotypes

Talking about romance, Huaiyu has always remained bolder, while Xuanjin has a princess temper. For instance, Xuanjin insisted on not taking his medicine until Huaiyu jumped in with candy.

Moreover, our female protagonist must persuade the male lead, who believes bathing together is inappropriate and scandalous, to have one, breaking stereotypes.

The Negatives:

Here are a few negative aspects of the Spring Banquet which readers find difficult to catch up:

  • Lack of Believability

Although the concept of reincarnation and vengeance was blended thoroughly well throughout the ideas and plots. Spring Banquet lacks when adding clarity, where sometimes, certain characters’ reactions and actions resulted in my reader’s block.

Even in the world of fiction, the author still needs to weave a fabric of plausibility, and in a few cases, we felt that the author fell short. Believability, however, can also be a matter of taste; scenes that some readers might find a bit excessive may be acceptable to others.

  • Confusing Politics

Even if you understand and love the political concepts of Ancient China in a better manner. The political aspects the author explained were confusing and very difficult to understand.

I had gone through those points quite a number of times, but it couldn’t make any sense, and I couldn’t get to the root of the problem.

Part 3: Conclusion

With the Spring Banquet, you can get dazzled by Ancient China’s beauty and the concept of rebirth for the sake of love.

While most love stories may turn out to be a little boring, Spring Banquet will ensure to keep you interested with its twists and turns. The concept is too sweet to digest, from vengeance and hate to rebirth and falling in love.
