Chapter 1. The Notorious Alain
(Alain Elwood’s Perspective)   They said it only takes a strong heart and a bold move to be a complete pathetic outcast in the world. But the nineteen-year-old Alain Elwood would think differently about that. He was one of a kind. He could be bad. He could be devilish. But he could also be sweet. And he was everything that most girls adored, but despised by society. He was just never fit in among the majority of the billion people in the world. He just felt completely different. The last thing he would want to be known was everything that society said to be abnormal. And what the hell he thought he was supposed to be? Alain Elwood was a wild boxer by day and a notorious biker by night. He could do both things as his dangerous game. He got such an energetic spirit to live on. Once the freshman year started, he chose to live in such a dark light under an infamous frat house in Philadelphia. He didn’t want to live in a dorm with other normal students, because he was out of the norm himself. He had his own quirk to keep at bay. And the last thing he would do there; he just wanted to be free from all of the rules applied. He was simply wanted to feel the freedom of life. He wanted to break them all. He was a bad boy. He didn’t play by the rulebook. He owned the world. And this how the epic young life story of him was about to start. *** The first day at college, University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Alain rode his favorite motorcycle fast into the parking lot. The noisy sound that came from his motor machine instantly made the walkers glanced in his direction. People were chattering as they watched him parked his motorcycle in the university’s parking lot. His abrupt incoming made some of them furrowed their eyes agitatedly. As soon as he took off his black motorcycle helmet, he gazed out at the view around him. Some students that came across him on the pavement, they stole a glance at him warily. He could feel everyone’s eyes secretly staring at him weirdly. At the time, he wondered what was actually happening. Soon after, he suddenly heard a few girls chattered from across the lot. “Isn’t he hot stuff? Who is that? So handsome!” A blonde girl dressed in an oxford sweater muttered while kept playing with her long hair in a flirty way. Her eyes secretly staring at his good-looking appearance. At the time, Alain was wearing a black leather jacket, black jeans, and black sneakers. He looked sporty and manly. And then the short girl next to her shouted after, “Shush… don’t you hear the news yet about him? That’s Alain Elwood! He’s a famous wild biker in Philadelphia!” And the other girl, who had the most contented body added, “Yeah, and I heard he has a bad reputation though. Shame on his pretty face. He could do much better than that.” It was like the rumor about him spread like wildfire among the students here. And it was only in his second freshman year when the rumor started to make most of them terrified of him. He just enrolled himself in the University of Pennsylvania last semester. The people would call this place shortly as Penn or UPenn. And he was hoping he could attend the classes without anyone gave him such an annoying stare every time. Let alone the embarrassing fact that he had to repeat taking the same classes which he had taken last semester. As the university’s bell rang loudly throughout the building, he quickly left the parking lot to find his first classroom. He was about to start his college journey here as an English student. When he was walking through the crowded corridor there, someone was shouting out loudly at him, “ALAIN ELWOOD! HEY, MAN!” As he quickly turned to see who was calling him out, he met a tall slender guy dressed in a red-brown leather jacket and denim jeans. He immediately grinned at him. He knew this boy very well. And then he shouted back, “Yeah, Brandon! I can’t believe we meet here again since last holiday.” His name was Brandon Davis. He was also a biker like Alain. They joined the same motorcycle club since they were still in high school back then. Alain was his senior. That shoulder-length blonde hair guy raised his hand at him. Alain quickly tossed his hand and returned the friendly handshake. “Wait a minute, why are you roaming in this department? You know this is English Department in Penn, right?” Alain asked him. “Yes, I am well aware of the fricking fact. Thank you for reminding me,” he looked annoyed when he had to mention it. “It’s my mother who wants me to enroll here as an English literature student. So, I got to switch my business major to here.” Alain chuckled. “I think you’ll do just alright here, man. I’m also into English Lit.” “I will be alright if you lend me a hand to fill me in the stupid pop quiz, man,” he teased him mischievously as he tapped his shoulder lightly. As they tossed each other’s hands again, then they walked together into the long corridor. It turned out; they had the same class on the first day. The students came altogether to enter the classroom. He was the last person to walk into the room, looking all ignorant and tough among the others. Some boys in the corner of the room glanced at him, wondering who he was. While the girls, they all looked at him, got bewitched by his attractive charm. As if there was an invisible string surrounding his body, almost all the girls drooled themselves when secretly looking in his direction. He noticed the way they all gazed at him. He was not at all clueless about reading the situation around him. He had sharp eyes like an eagle, very observant, and very careful. Alain just found his favorite spot in the back of the room when Brandon clapped his hands noisily. Soon after, everyone glanced at him curiously.  “Yo, people! Please give a big applause to me and my pal over there!” Brandon shouted out from the middle of the room. And then he shouted energetically again, “We are the almighty bikers of Pennsylvania, Woah! Nice to meet you all here! I’m Brandon. And he is Alain.” Alain looked around at the students in the class, who was staring back at him. And then he quickly waved his hand in the air, trying to make a friendly impression on them. Afterward, he heard a braided light-brown hair girl in the middle of the room secretly talked behind his back, “I heard he lives in the frat house. He seems dangerous.” And then, the nerdy girl in front of her, the reddish-brown long hair with an army parka jacket, she slightly stole a glance at him. When he caught her stealing a glance, he quickly raised his hand at her to wave his hand. He also nodded his chin at her, trying to look friendly. Those girls immediately looked away from him. They seemed embarrassed to get caught. However, he didn’t care about what kind of rumor that was spreading between the students on campus. He didn’t care either if someone in the stupid lame party last night at the frat house had deliberately made a false rumor about him. He had not heard exactly what the rumor was all about. But he had been living a rough life to get easily hurt over stupid false information about him. Nobody knew him in person anyway. Anybody could judge him as they liked, but he wouldn’t hassle. He was a tough guy. He could protect his own peace of mind from the stupid people out there. He wouldn’t make such a big deal about it. However, his old friend over there, Brandon was still trying to impress the freshman students here. Brandon tried to make friends with some of the boys, who looked as naughty as he was. Maybe he would like to recruit for the new members to the motorcycle club. Afterward, he heard that same girl talked about him again. As if that girl knew everything about him, but she only heard it from the people in the frat house, “He’s a senior! For God’s sake! He must be so dull to repeat the same class all over again! I can’t believe it… I was just wondering if he only has such a pretty face without a real brain!” The reddish-brown girl snapped cynically, “Gosh, he is dangerous and lame.” And then, as if they found the conversation somehow amusing, they both giggled along. Alain sighed and chuckled when seeing how ridiculous those girls were. They were talking about him as if they really knew the real him. And in the end, he could only shake his head and shrug his shoulders ignorantly. However, Alain Elwood had to relive his freshman year all over again in the university. He was not dull. He just got a little bored sometimes. And he was about to have some fun in this city anyway. It was time to feel alive again.
