Between Two Mates

It is a side story from the first book Hating my Mate. -Rose POV- Humming a tune as I walk through the school hall, my eyes widen when the sweetest scent I have ever smelled hits my nose. I instinctively close my eyes and savor the scent. I know this is my mate. And I am sure it is him. It is his birthday after all. I turn around as the scent gets closer and stronger. My eyes lock with beautiful green eyes. Helix stops running and stares at me with a smile. (I knew it! Ever since I turned eighteen, I knew he was my mate. Even though he was still younger, I could sense it.) But something doesn’t seem right. Instead of running to me and kissing me as most mates do, he stands there now looking very confused but I don’t care. The urge to claim him is strong. “Mine” I say but I am confused when another female voice next to me says the same thing. “Mine” With shock, I look at her. (Wait...This can’t be!) A growl threatens to come out and now my wolf wants to rip this girl apart. (This can’t be! Two?! We are both his mates!) -Helix POV- -A few days earlier- “I’m going to KILL YOU!!” Nova, my sister, shouts. “Haha! If you can catch me!” I mock. Since I’ve had my wolf, she hasn’t been able to keep up with me even though she is older. I start running but look back and see the pink monstrosity that runs after me. “IT WON’T COME OFF!!” She screams like a maniac. “That’s the point.” I shout with laughter. I run into the dining room where some pack members lounge and eat breakfast. I run to the opposite side of the table to make sure she is at a distance because if she catches me, she’ll end me. (That would be the end of “Helix the Barbarian!”) No one knows I call myself that. As we run, pack members stare at her but she only has eyes for me at the moment. “Stay right there you little brat!” She screeches. “Yea, sure thing.” I say with no actual intention of doing that. “What is going on?” Dominic asks walking in and then he gasps when he sees Nova. “What the f-” He covers his mouth. She pouts at him and points at me. “He put something in my shampoo that turned me and my hair pink!!” I nonchalantly sit on one of the chairs and put a hand up. “Wasn’t me.” Dominic narrows his eyes at me. “Yea, it was you.” I roll my eyes and look at Nova. “I’m sure that the pink color on your skin will come off with something. As for your hair... looks better.” I stick my tongue out at her. (That’s a lie. Looks horrible. It’s all patchy and it is hot pink.) I didn’t know the color was going to take so well. It is really bright and it’s probably because she naturally has very light blonde hair like me and my other sister Stella. Stella and Nova are twins and older than me. They look alike with light blonde hair and green eyes, just like me, but they are not identical and Nova has an eyepatch on one of her eyes now since she lost it in a fight a year ago. Nova’s green eye twitches as she looks at me. “You!... are going to pay for this!” She then looks at Dominic and pouts. “I look ugly. She cries out. He takes her in a comforting hug and I just roll my eyes. (She’s being so dramatic.) Dominic is her mate. And he is the next in line Alpha to our pack. After a big fight we had last year with my uncle's pack, Dominic temporarily took control of the pack since his father was grieving his mate's death. But his dad —Alpha Maximus— is now leading the pack again. My other sister Stella is living with her mate in another neighboring pack. She is also Luna of that pack just like Nova will be Luna of this pack when Dominic takes over. “I am going to tell Rose about this!” Nova says. “Go ahead. She’ll just laugh it off.” We get our wolves at seventeen and we are able to sense our mate and smell their scent at eighteen. As long as they are over eighteen as well but I have had a feeling that Rose will be my mate. I don’t know why but I am just really attracted to her. Nova squints her eyes at me. “Fine! Then I’m telling Alpha Maximus you’ve been flirting with a bunch of girls again. He’ll be mad and cancel your birthday party.” “No, I haven’t! Liar!” I shout. She smirks. “I’m going to tell him that those girls got into a fight over you again.” I shake my head. I don’t do that anymore... as much. I learned my lesson... kind of. Yea, I’m a flirt but I don’t sleep around. That has to count for something. “Baby, how about we put all that revenge energy into fixing your hair instead.” Dominic says lifting one of her curls. She sighs. “He is such an ass, Dominic.” “I know. Come on. Let’s see what we can do.” He says. I roll my eyes. She’s become so mushy since she has been with him. She was such a rebel and I guess she still is but when it comes to him, it’s like she is weak. Mom says that even the most stubborn man or woman will fall weak to his mate. Seeing Nova and Dominic makes me think that it is completely true. We found out last year that my sisters and I are of Alpha blood. Alphas are dominant and stubborn as they come, even the female she-wolves. Nova was off the roof with how stuborn and dominant she was so seeing her like this, makes me weirded out. I turn around and walk out. I really hope she won't say anything to Alpha Maximus. I have been grounded for over a month so I need this party. Mom and dad said since it’s my birthday, this will be the only time I get to go out this summer. That’s what happens when you almost don’t pass high school. I f****d around too much but now—thanks to Alpha Maximus— I have to take some summer classes. He pulled his contacts and helped me out. I couldn’t go to the graduation but as long as I finish these summer classes, I’ll pass and be over with high school for good. The only good thing about this is that I get to hang out with Rose since she volunteers to tutor students during the summer in the school. I can’t wait till my birthday. I know she is my mate. I have been infatuated with her since I met her. I walk around the house and get into my car. Mom and dad got it for me a couple of months ago. I make my way to the school and when I get out, I stare up at the building. “Just one more week after this and I am done with you.” “Who the hell are you dumping?” I turn around and see Cooper. My best friend. I laugh. “The school.” He shakes his head and sighs. “Can’t wait to be out of here too.” “Yea, most of the reason we are here is because of you.” I say. “You fucker. You’re the bad influence. Mom almost had my head when she found out that I wasn’t passing high school.” He dramatically says. “Yea, and because of me, now we get to.” I say. “You mean because of your Alpha.” He corrects. “Same thing.” I swat my hands in the air and start to walk in. The moment we walk in, Tori spots us. She gives me a big smile and walks over to us. “Hey, I know tomorrow is your birthday party but are you going to the lake tonight? It’s the last time it will be there. Construction on that new freeway is starting on Monday and they are getting rid of it.” “Oh of course. Wouldn’t miss it.” She gives me a big smile and walks away. “She is so into you.” Cooper says as we watch her leave. The girl is really pretty and I am very attracted to her. But I am waiting till Monday. That’s when I turn eighteen and hopefully find my mate. The one person that comes to mind whenever I think about my mate is Rose. Her dark chocolate hair, her brown eyes. I have had a crush on her for almost two years. She is older than me by a year but who cares, I like older women.
