Episode1
A woman knows right?! I mean when it comes to her relationship, there is a sense, deep down, in your gut. It's literally called a gut feeling for a reason! Take me and Simon for example, tall, dark haired, kind, generous, slightly wonky nose just adding to his appeal. On our first date, I knew, this was special, this was going to mean something. We talked for four hours! About current events, politics, our favourite subjects as kids, it was so easy, meant to be. We met at a little cafe by the canal. Well technically we met in a bar on Greek Street at about 1am the previous night. I was out with my best friend from uni and housemate, Jacob, celebrating his latest promotion. Jacob was flirting with as many girls as he could, his standard procedure, and I was happily working my way through the latest bottle of Prosecco when Simon came up and introduced himself. Even tipsy, ok, flat out wasted, I could tell this was a guy I was not going to want to forget. His eyes crinkled at the corners as he grinned at me. I thought that was something they made up for books and would just make someone look old or squinty but nope, it's a thing, and a really attractive one. "Looks like you've been abandoned here. Want some company?" His voice was smooth and deep, but not overconfident. My mind froze, yes, yes I did want some company, especially when that company was in the form of a hot, tall, crinkly eyed guy wearing a crisp blue shirt with rolled up sleeves revealing very nice-looking forearms. I'd never really noticed someone's forearms too much before, but these were really very lovely looking. Tanned, strong looking, no big veins popping out. "Sure" squeaked past my lips, before I collected myself, "take a seat". "I'm Simon, what are you doing here alone?" "Jacob, my housemate, got promoted so now he is celebrating by finding his latest conquest". I nodded over to where Jacob was currently holding court with three very attractive girls in their early twenties. "Jacob your housemate hey? That's a relief, so he's not going to mind me sitting here? Do I get to know your name as well?" "I think we will be ok. I'm not sure about giving my name to a stranger though. Do you want a Prosecco?" I asked and offered him an empty glass. "Shouldn't I be the one offering you a drink?" He grinned as he accepted the glass. "So you expect me to drink a whole bottle of Prosecco and another drink from you? Should I be worried about your intentions?" This time he laughed as he picked up the bottle and topped up both our glasses. "Fair enough, I wouldn't want you thinking I have dishonourable intentions! So alcohol with a stranger is fine, but your name is a step too far?!" "Well I guess it would be awkward to be known as 'the girl with the Prosecco', I'm Sofia". We drank the Prosecco and he made me laugh and feel like I was the most fascinating and beautiful girl in the room, which I was not. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bad looking. Done up for a night out I would even say attractive, but I'm not that stand out beauty. My legs stop at a normal point and meet in the middle of my thighs, my hair is dark brown and long, but it is a battle to tame the frizz every day, and many days it is a battle I lose. I'm slim and slightly shorter than average, but my shoulders are wider than I like so certain styles of clothing are out. My face is average with my lips just a little thinner than I want and I don't know how to contour. I do have good cheekbones though, a blessing from my mother which definitely helps. I've been told I have pretty eyes, a kind of amber colour, but then again, that's an easy go to compliment. We only had twenty minutes before Jacob returned and pulled me away to the next bar, but it was enough to swap numbers and arrange to meet up the next day at the café. I spent the rest of the night grinning and didn't even mind when Jacob disappeared with yet another blonde beauty. The sense of anticipation, that something important had just happened was making my whole body buzz and I fell asleep smiling. When I arrived at the café the following afternoon, on time, he was already waiting for me. I knew it was a good sign. I can't stand people being late, it stresses me out. It's so disrespectful of someone's time to not just turn up when you say you will. Anyway, Simon passed that one with flying colours. He'd picked a table outdoors which I liked, he was clearly not worried to be seen with me. The date was perfect, we talked, we laughed, we had way too much coffee just so we could spend more time in each others company. He had family plans for the evening otherwise I'm not sure when the date would have ended. He didn't wait to text me for a second date, I hadn't even arrived home before he sent me a message, saying what a great time he'd had, and asking for a second date that week! For once I had met someone who was straightforward, honest about what they wanted. We dated for six months before he asked me to move in with him. Which was so great as I was in a house share with three other 'young professionals' which had passed its expiration date. It used to be great, four best friends sharing a house together. Amanda, Jacob and I had studied business together at uni and Sarah had met Amanda at Kickboxing and been pulled into our group. Amanda was serious, quick witted, oh so driven and once she decided you were her friend, that was it. Jacob was funny, good looking, the cool one in our group, he had three older sisters and joked he didn't know how to friends with other guys. I met him the very first day of uni when he was late to class and then invited me to the bar for a drink after so that he could copy my notes. Sarah joined our gang in the second year, although didn't live with us until after we'd finished our degrees. She was free spirited and her laid back approach was a great counter for when Amanda got too serious. The three of us had lived together since our second year. Our other housemates moved on after uni but we stayed together and Sarah joined us. We'd been in the same house for the last three years, a typical young professional house share in a trendy but run down area of the city. We'd fight over the bathroom and what to watch but were best friends and loved living together. But then Amanda went and moved to York for work and a random guy named Chris moved in. Six months later Sarah got her dream job in London and her lovely but socially awkward cousin Marie moved in to complete her post grad. So there was just me and Jacob left. And Jacob was so busy working his way through the Leeds legal professions new associates that I'm not sure he even realized I moved out five months ago. Simon had his own place so it only made sense that I moved in with him. A cute one bed apartment in the city centre, perfect for walking to my office in the financial district, shopping at the weekends and all the bars and restaurants nearby. Admittedly it was a little cramped and there wasn't any wardrobe space for my clothes, so I was still living out of two suitcases under the bed; but these are small issues that pale in comparison to the joy of waking up everyday next to my dream guy. I have great friends, a great career and the most perfect guy. I mean, I'm 26 and basically have made it. Anyway, my point is, I knew. From that first meeting, and ever since. So why am I staring at my perfect guy buried between another woman's legs right now?
