Chapter 1
Close to five rafts were floating on the river bed. They were tied to some pegs on the show. Covered in white sheets, under them bodies of their fallen family members and friends. Flowers on each one of them. It was a few hours to midnight. They had spent the whole day preparing for the burial ceremony in the sacred pack grounds. All the wolves were gathered around. Some lucky to be alive with their arms tied on an arm slings. Slowly recuperating from the war that had befell them. Their heads were bowed in shame and respect. Shame because for years they had never lost a war with such huge collateral damage. Respect was for their fallen alphas. Both the young and old were not spared by the wrath of the hybrid with his companions. And even though he was dead or far away from humanity, they were still fuming with vengeance. Deep inside them waiting to erupt when provoked. The presence of one person only was remaining for the ceremony to start. She had lost so much than them. For days she had locked herself up in solitary. Carrying the blame of the war. The elders had tried to talk her out of it without any success. They were hoping she was going to show up for the burial. "We can't wait any longer", one elder said taking the podium. Murmurs could be heard from the crowd. It was hard to tell if they were in agreement or not. The pack elder waited for them to subside before he continued. A cold wind was brushing past them and making the nearby trees dance to an unknown melody. "Today is a very sad day in the history of our pack," He started off in a bewailing tone, "lying in front of us is our alpha and his family, our friends sisters and brothers that didn't survive the war which caught us unawares" He said raising his voice. Tears of grief and sorrow welled up their eyes. The reality was starting to sink in. It was the last time they were seeing them. Tina joined them. Almost immediately. They created a path for her sending their condolences as hugs, a kiss on the cheek, others especially the men a lazy handshake. She looked exhausted. For days she had not tasted any food. When she got to the front Tina went to look at their faces one last time. She imagined the angel of death was dancing and mocking her. First it was Milton, then chilwell and his girlfriend Brianna. When she got to Tina her legs were weak. A woman ran to support her from falling. The last one was even more painful. It was expected for a woman to burry a brother, a father or a husband but nothing was painful like burying her own children. Aubrey was her only child. Even in death her face looked prettier. It still had the glow she was used to. Tina couldn't control herself. She collapsed on top of her wailing uncontrollably. It took the help of three men to get her to calm down. "The ruthless hand of death has tested us and honestly we failed, The elder continued staring and Tina seated at the front," but we're not giving up yet. We get up stronger than before and dust ourselves. We shall regain our glory and once again go back to the top. This is a wakeup call. While we may never get our hands on those who caused us this pain we know where they came from" he added. The grief was ponderously getting swallowed by the promising words of the elder. They were all psyched up by the need for revenge. It was like he had awakened them from a slumber of weakness and now they felt strong all of a sudden. "We heal, stick together and go for their heads. Welcome to The reign of the Alpha female!" He announced spreading his arms. A streak of lightening followed by thunder lit up the sky. They had room for happiness despite all the sorrow. A thunderous applause was heard as Tina got up to address the small crowd. She felt stronger and safe. Her head was now clear after crying her heart out. She waved to the crowd forcing a smile. "First of all I would like to apologize for neglecting my duties for the past few days," She said bowing in respect, "The time I spent in solitary has taught me something. The world is nothing without the people you love. Even though I lost my family I still consider all of you as my family and as long as am the Alpha female of this pack no one else will lose their family under my watch", She promised crossing her heart. Her iris was glowing a faint red with some yellowish orange tinge around it. The transfer of power was complete. She had to do her part. Focus and channel her emotions to one thing. That was the only way she could tap into the whole of it. "We're not giving up. Today we mourn but tomorrow we will paint our walls with the blood of our enemies. The vampires have it coming!" She said. The last part of the burial ceremony was to set them free. They released the ropes on the pegs and let their bodies float to the old sea. There, they were going to meet with Damians pack too. They watched until the last balloon faded then hugged each other as they walked back to their respective houses in the compound. The scars of war were still visible but the thoughts of prosperity dominated their minds. With the Alpha female things were going to be totally different. Not only for women but for the rest of them. Even those who despised her were willing to give her a chance to prove herself worthy. She watched them as they went to sleep. All of them were now her responsibility. Tina had to come to terms with the fact that her family was never coming back and embrace the new one she was lucky to have. ****** The news of Leon's and Ariella's death had spread like a wildfire. For most super naturals who didn't like them it was a celebration. Except for Ariella's castle where a dark cloud of grief and sorrow had not left since the day she tricked them. The few people he had left were mourning silently behind closed doors. Lydia was not the same. She had lost two of the most important people in her life. Ariella might have been ruthless but she was like a mother. And Leon. They were just starting to like each other. Even though he was dead and locked away in another dimension she still held him responsible for breaking the promise. "So what next? Hillary asked Don who was lost in thoughts. "I don't know men, we can't survive out there any longer", Don said. "Soon Steve will know where we are and come after us, Alyssa said. They were an endangered group of super naturals. Steve was still after them. He had searched everywhere and it was just a few days before he searched in the castle. With Ariella dead and never coming back no one was scared of knocking. Lydia was the only remaining witch. The others ran away now that their mistress was dead. They were going to find a way to revive her. But how? According to those who were there, she had disappeared in a portal that led to a land no one had ever seen. It was a desperate move to find her but they vowed to try.
