Chapter 1
###Chapter 1 Not so perfect after all Amanda The best thing about being engaged to someone you believe is the perfect man for you is the fact that everything in your life starts to feel like it's falling into place and that nothing could ever go wrong. That feeling of being secure, happy and confident that your life is only going to get better was a feeling I was currently experiencing and I was more than confident that it would never change because I had found someone that I believed was a perfect match for me. I was currently heading over to my soon to be husband's apartment so that I could let him know of the last minute arrangements for our wedding tomorrow. I would have chosen to call him instead but I decided it would be better to see him in person since anything related to our wedding was pretty important to me and I also kind of needed an excuse to see him before the D-day which is tomorrow. I still can't believe that by this time tomorrow, I'll officially be marrying the love of my life and I'll also be known as Mrs Hendricks, the wife of the tech guru, Ryan Hendricks. Ryan and I have been together for about five years and he has been my biggest support system in the last five years. He was not just someone I considered as my partner, he was also a best friend and a mentor to me and I couldn't be more grateful to God for giving me such a perfect man and finally, he and I will officially be known as husband and wife in a few hours. A lot of my friends, including my parents, had thought that Ryan and I wouldn't last too long since they believed we were such polar opposites that we would never learn to tolerate each other and they also condemned the thirteen year age difference between us. The reason they thought we wouldn't be a good match was because he and I worked in completely different fields, had different interests and basically, we just didn't seem like a typical example of a couple that would last for even a year. Contrary to their thinking, Ryan and I proved them wrong by showing them just how much we loved each other despite the fact that we had a lot of differences and that our beliefs were completely clashing. He had always assured me that nothing would make him leave me and that none of our differences mattered to him in any way. I arrived at his apartment building and just as I'm about to make my way to the elevator that would take me to his floor, I saw him walking towards his car and he seemed as though he was in a hurry. As far as I remembered, he had told me that he would not be leaving his apartment until tomorrow for our wedding so I was quite surprised by the fact that he was heading out in such a hurry. Could something have happened? I wondered. I tried calling out his name but he did not seem to have heard me and instead, he simply got in his car and drove out of his apartment building. Being the curious person that I am, I decided to follow him instead of just calling him to ask where he was headed. He drove for about twenty minutes before arriving at an hotel that I wasn't exactly familiar with but seeing how he just arrived at the place in such a short time, I assumed he was quite familiar with the place and it's probably because he had some work there or knew someone that resided there. I had the urge to call him and let him know that I was right behind him but the fact that I didn't call him when I arrived at his apartment and chose to follow him instead could make me look bad and could give him a wrong impression that I don't trust him which is completely false cause, the only reason I even followed was simply out of my silly curiosity and had absolutely nothing to do with thinking he had anything to hide. As far as I was concerned, Ryan could never do anything that I would find distasteful in any way. I completely trusted him just as much as I trusted myself and since he hasn't given me a reason not to trust him, I can't possibly start stressing over what's not. I pushed the thought of calling him behind and decided to just leave but then, if there's one habit I've always had, it was making sure that I finished whatever I started. The fact that I already came all the way here meant that there was absolutely no way I'll just go back home without finding out why exactly Ryan decided to come here by this time of the night and for what reason he was here. I just needed to satisfy my curiosity so I didn't end up trying to guess his reason all night instead of just going to bed and anticipating my wedding. I kept following him, hoping that I'd get to know the reason he's here before he walked into the elevator. Almost immediately I thought of it, the familiar face of Will approached him with a smile on his face and to be honest, a part of me felt relieved that he was the reason Ryan was here but that was until I saw them hug each other tightly in a way that I did not expect. Will and I have met a few times and the first time we met, Ryan had introduced him to me as his favourite cousin and apparently he and Will were pretty close. According to what he said, Will was the only external relative that he had a close relationship with because he wasn't like the rest of them who only hung around him because he had money. I couldn't help but wonder why Ryan would come out this late to visit Will or why Will was even lodged in a hotel in the first place. At first, I thought it could be that they probably wanted to celebrate Ryan's last night as a bachelor but then again, I remember Ryan mentioned that he wouldn't be throwing any kind of party tonight because he wasn't exactly the party type and also because he didn't see the need to. I had it in mind to just leave and mind my business but then, Will and Ryan had suddenly held hands which made absolutely no sense to me and I just knew that I had to follow them and satisfy my curiosity or else I won't be myself for the rest of the night. I had a feeling that if I followed them through the same elevator, I'd most likely get caught and get in trouble with Ryan and the last thing I wanted was to have a disagreement with him just a day before our wedding. That would be absolutely disastrous for us and I can't afford anything to go wrong at this point. I'm lost for a while thinking of what to do before recalling that I had a mask in my pocket that I could use to cover my face. I pulled out my mask quickly and put it on but even with the mask, I knew Ryan would recognise me easily so I did the first thing that came to mind at that moment. "Hi, good evening," I greet after walking towards a stranger who I noticed happened to have a hat on. "I know this isn't very appropriate but can I borrow your hat? I know it seems weird and all but I promise I'm not a weirdo or anything like that but this is very important to me and I really, really need to borrow it," I blurted out very quickly and as expected, he seemed to have been taken aback by my weird request. "That doesn't make any...," he's about to reply but I quickly cut him off when I noticed that Ryan and Will had already walked into the elevator. "I'm so sorry but I really don't have time to explain and I really need to borrow this. I promise I'll return it!" I apologised quickly before snatching the hat the stranger had on and rushing towards the elevator while struggling to keep my hair in the hat and make sure my mask was intact. I expected that the stranger would have probably run after me and called security on me for stealing his hat, which would have been beyond embarrassing but lucky for me. It didn't seem like he had gone that far and I couldn't be more grateful for that. I still could not believe that a sensible and logical woman like myself was doing something this outrageous but as of right now, I knew my only goal was to get to the bottom of this and just satisfy my curiosity before I end up losing my mind. Thankfully, I was able to stop the elevator before it left and I walked in carefully with my head bowed very low to avoid being noticed by Ryan or Will. They both still had their hands interlocked and were whispering to each other in hush tones. I tried very hard to keep my mind out of the gutter even though it was more than weird that two supposed cousins were walking around a hotel with their hands interlocked while whispering and giggling to each other like they were lovers. I pressed my palms together nervously as I waited for them to get off before I followed them. Lucky for me, we weren't the only ones in the elevator and no one seemed to find me weird for wearing a mask and a hat and trying hard to keep my face away from everyone. As the heavens would have it, Ryan and Will get off on the 13th floor and I wait a few long seconds after they have gotten off before following slowly behind them. They were still holding on to each other's hands but they were no longer whispering but speaking clearly to each other and I was beyond confused by the words I was hearing. "You do intend to spend the night with me, right? Cause I have no intention of letting you leave early like you usually do," Will said and I'm confused. "Don't worry babe, I'm not going anywhere," Ryan responded to him and I could feel my heart racing ten times faster already. My heart just didn't want to accept that I just heard my fiancée call his supposed cousin 'babe' while promising to spend the night at his place even when he had told me earlier that he would not be going anywhere. I refuse to believe the things I just heard as they sounded way too ridiculous for me and I decided that my mind was simply playing mind games with me but that was until I saw Will interlock his elbow with Ryan's with an excited smile on his face and for the first time since I've known Ryan, I saw him smile right back at someone with just as much excitement and happiness on his face. I've never really thought of how heartbreaking it would be to see the man you love smile at another person in a way that he's never smiled at you before until today and as much as my heart didn't want to accept what I was seeing, my head knew very well that what I was thinking at the moment wasn't wrong. I decided to just keep following them until they arrived in front of their room. Will seemed to be struggling to find the keys to the room for a while and when he did, he smiled sheepishly at Ryan and almost as though he was giving me a confirmation to my suspicion, he placed a kiss on Ryan's lips to which Ryan didn't seem surprised by and as soon as I witnessed that, I felt my whole world crumble right in front of me and my entire being felt as though I had been drenched in extremely cold water. ###Chapter 2 An annoying day Jeffrey "When did Mr Anderson say he would arrive?" I asked Martin who was the person in charge of managing the hotel. "According to his assistant, we were informed that he'd be arriving in about two hours, Sir," he replied. "I want to believe that you're already well informed of his requirements so make sure that absolutely nothing goes wrong while he's here and that he's served extremely well. You know very well how picky he can get, right? Ensure that his needs are met right on time and don't forget to inform the kitchen to be extra careful with his meals, he doesn't eat just anything. While doing all of that, be sure that he adheres to the hotel policy and doesn't maltreat any staff. If he does, be sure to inform me immediately, understood?" I instructed. "Understood Sir. Is there anything else you'd like to ask Sir?" he asked and I dismissed him before excusing myself from the office. For the first time in almost six months, I decided to visit my hotel in New York and check how things were being run over here. The only time I ever decide to come all the way here is when an important client of mine informs me that they'll be coming to visit and as the business man that I am, I have no other choice than to fly down from Los Angeles, which is were I originally reside to New York and welcome them myself.
