Prologue : Axeport City
John Straverman has been driving for two hours straight across the highway lane to Axeport. Mid-thirty in appearance, He sports a combination of brown-coated trousers and one black glasses to cast off sunshine from the face. His black eyes admires the clear sightings of the city from a distance. As the wind blows past the slightly-opened front window, his curly black hair waves back against the speedy gale that has been carried on by the pace of his car. Several wrinkles around his temple projected the stress of a manager that goes piled up after years on duty. He proceeds to have a full-paid leave for a month after working rigorously for eight years in WIC company, one of the richest consortium in the world of 2050. They contributed in numerous businesses across the New Pangaea continent and conquers the market for ten-years straight in total revenue accumulated. But then, they started it all from a small company that specialized in chemical trade and development, which is the one place where John Straverman works himself hard upon. His well-refined arms spoke of the hardship from his daily workplace, as well as the hardened chest after strenuous schedule that chewed him over the years. A few scars told the stories of his own struggle against the ravenous flow of innovation. He boasts himself before many vials and blue-lighted flame under the glass, only to receive an unwelcome tears from the liquid that was born. John Straverman turned to be the victim instead of a seasoned inventor in that regard. “Another jam, babe. Guess we’ve had to open our bag of sweets for ransom.” Said the driver to his shotgun companion, beloved wife an a spouse for eternity. She wears a checkered-pattern white blouse complied with a small cream-colored fedora on her head. In regards to her way of dealing with the winds, Elisa has bound her gold-tinted hair in pig-tail fashion. That caused no further astray for the whole stripes of gold that the woman has combed up. On her lap, Elisa Straverman preserved some candies for edibles mid-way to the course for Axeport, which then entered the driver’s mouth soon after she opened them whole,”How’s that? Too sugary for your taste?” Asked Elisa as she handed down another peeled up candies to his grasp. John shook his head respectively,”No, it’s brighten up the mood. Deliver me another, honey.” He munched the sweet vigorously whilst keeping the speedometer in sluggish speed across. His vision wanders around the street. He squinted both eyebrows against the sudden jam before them, exhales in-between to heave a sigh afterwards,” I don’t know, really, somehow I felt all of these cars are our fellow workers at WIC. Why do we’ve been called here?” “We’re on vacation, quit become so concerned about no-nonsense issues.” Said the woman as she opened a bar of sweet for herself,”If it’s your boss callin’ for a stay here, it means you’re on duty, but it’s not that way, right?” “Yeah, I guess so. Might’ve been caused of myself lolling about work too much.” It takes them quite some time for entering the midst of their travel. Two full-thirty minutes stop at gas stations has filled them up with nourishments, indeed, but their stomach would never become crammed in nutritions anyway. They have to be modest on eating treats or countless trip to the toilet will hinder their way across. This is the first rule of long voyage on the road. Efficiency for the hours taken should define how long somebody would be riding on the wheels, therefore careful treatment of their time will be required regardless. ~din-din~ Few hundred meters remaining to the highway road exit. John Straverman observes the road in front of them and found a number of armed officers at the left side of the automatic payment booth. They were checking on the identity of every passengers without leaving someone out of the straddle,” Honey, do you bring your identity card in the bag? I should’ve myself in mine, but I don’t know much about yours.” John quickly directed his utmost attention to the bag that the man has stashed on the empty passenger seat behind. “What’s they doing, babe?” Instead of following his orders straight away, the blonde-haired woman looks ahead of the police officer and being terrified of their presence. She went pale in seconds after the abrupt existence of such authority and forgot to close her gaping mouth that goes wide. Her husband has to follow through with the queue and pressing himself forward, regardless, until they eventually disembarked before the black-uniform officer and his cold-as-stone look,” Good afternoon, sir. May I have your ID, please?” Asked the man after brief salutation up front. “Where’s yours, babe?” John looked onto his wife in calm fashion. Elisa, on the other hand, responded to his call in-rather nervous self, clenching her own fist under the bag,” I forgot to bring them up, honey. I’m sorry.” Begged the woman before her husband could follow up such mistakes with a rant. Instead of lashing out his fury against her negligence, John immediately turned his gaze towards the police officer and pressing both palms before his chest,”I beg your pardon, officer, but my wife has no identity card on her. Is it alright if it’s just me?” The Police Officer tilted his head downwards to look upon the face of John’s wife. He laid no further request, only getting the identity card given from John’s hand to scrutinize them a moment later. He reviewed them all from top to the bottom before then staring at the man in subsequent manner,”Sorry, I have to compare your face with this picture.” Said the police officer to ease off their concern, “ Mr. John Straverman. You’re an employee of WIC, correct? I have been informed of several members of that company to get here, and you’ve been expected to take a straight left turn after the exit.” “You have any idea why?” Against John’s query, the Police Officer shrugged,”Nah, just doin’ my job here. We have to do a quick screening in advance of something big that would happen in our small town.” Before the driver asked for further information, the police officer placed his palm up front,”And no, we’re also have no big brain over this. Order from our chief leader that we can’t defy. Here, you can go now, and have a good weekend.” “You too, officer. You too.” John Straverman restarted the engine once granted permission by the police officer under the toll gate. As advised by the man, John Straverman continues to shift across and taking a heavy left turn for their next destination that has been settled. A little to no other automobiles directed their way to the small road. John Straverman and his dear spouse are the only attendants at this point, merely the one and only passengers to the path of unknown. Due to that reason, Elisa felt a little disturbed and grows even more pale in the process. She masticated the bunch of sweets that they have carried for the trip in faster motion. One bite to the tip and followed by nimble eating straight after, she had most of them rounded up in seconds without speaking a word to enlighten. “What’s wrong, Elisa? You seem so panicked.” John placed one hand on her thigh. He tried to caress her back to sense, but happened to do so in vain. Elisa Straverman emptied the whole package and gurgling in brief pleasure,” It’s related to the cops, honey. I have to relieve myself with chocolates and living the vacation with happiness, that’s all you have to know.” Answered the woman, smiling to show the brown-smeared teeth before her husband and raises both eyebrows in delight. “Don’t worry, it should be an exclusive accommodation for me. I’ve been working there for 8 whole years and haven’t taken enough leave to ease off the tension from my job.” Said the driver, sighed over the undue pressure he has obtained throughout the year,” Could be WIC that wanted to repay my loyalty by taking us to the best luxury in town. Who would’ve thought of that?” Before their carriage, the road goes slightly narrowed in every kilometers that they have past until it could fit only one car at the middle. Chain-link fences separated them from small-house residence that sandwiched them up within its grasp. Two-floors for each and constructed in identical fashion to the next one on their right. A number of children were running around at the front yard and playing games with their neighbors, looking happy and enjoying their lives in beaming smile. Elisa Straverman observes them while putting both hands under her chin. She leisures the sight provided by the vicinity , indeed, for the woman to instantly changing her position and facing towards the window in immediate fashion,” I dreamed that way of living, honey. When would we stop moving around and settle down somewhere?” commented the woman as they drive past the mentioned quarter. She indulged herself ahead of many children’s innocence, teasing other kids and tripping on the well-mowed grass at the front yard. John Straverman paused himself a little. He musters the word for a precise answer on his wife’s behalf. She has followed his duties back and forth, dealing and endured wanderer behavior for many years. He is gradually turning to be an old man, as well, so her suggestion sparks a thought in his mind. WIC company offers hundred-thousands of dollars for incentive of his incredible longevity. They could manifest most of them into various investments which would eventually turn into a hefty passive income for establishment of their private lives to follow. He has prepared them for a long time, way before Elisa’s insinuation comes into place. Looking at the road before them, John Straverman takes hold of her right palm and kissed them without asking for any consent beforehand,” It’ll be a few months after this, I promise.” Said the man behind the steering wheel. ~tire screeching~ They stopped at the parking lot before wood-framed vestibule that delivers a roof for their guest to arrive in events of rain outside. A massive billboard decorated the north-eastern side of the parking lot. It promotes the current project of scientific research that WIC company established in Axeport. One that involves a green-fashioned liquid within the bottle that they presented at the front of two models on board. Meanwhile, WIC plaque adorned the peak of main lobby’s entryway and shown its definitive owner for anyone to agree with. Its blue color instilled on the ‘W’ letter represents their lineage of business in chemical creation, when green-colored ones of the rest defines their eagerness towards sustainibility and dedication of renewable resources at the most. ”Yes, back to square one we go.” Stated John as the two of them got out from their ride. Commotions could be heard from the main lobby soon after they strolls ahead. There are seemingly hundreds of them within, lifting their arms up and compressed their fist in anger. John Straverman looked at the crowd, squinted his eyes before the loud noise inside,”Now that’s our furious mob. Should be an overwork type of thing, I guess.” He sighed soon after. ‘I want to speak with a manager, now!’ ‘I’m a regional team leader in another state, but this is not what I meant by a day break! Get me the person responsible on all this!’ Numerous complaints hurdled against each other in front of a confused receptionist behind the desk. She was agitated by the horde of vicious stare that were directed towards her and unable to fight back against them all at once. She is none other than a servant for WIC, after all, so the woman could only respond with apology before the flare that happened,”Please wait, our manager is trying her best to overcome the situation and needed time to consult with the headquarters. She will return shortly.” The receptionist said that repeatedly to contain the wrath that occurred. “Should we go home, honey?” Asked Elisa, concerned. The blonde-haired woman pulls her bag straight close to the chest,”It’s too noisy. What’s happening inside?” ~beep-beep~ Out of the blue, the billboard changed its current content to become only WIC company logo at the center of white-tinted background. It goes the same for every electronic communication device in the building. An ominous song plays across the entire city and within their phone, to add of the mysterious occasion that goes flourished. All that unidentified phenomenon leads to a voice of wise man. He clears the throat for gaining entry on the abrupt presence of himself before the crowd, hidden under the sole color of white and WIC brand at the top. “My fellow proud citizen of Hamara! I have buy the entire city of Axeport. You have no government leadership or anything political-related in this very soil, even police will be counted on playing the game, as well. I will grant $20 billions of dollars to the sole winner of the game, with only one simple rule.” He halted his speech, then continues. “You have to be the one that obtained the least amount of kill amongst your fellow combatants. So please, refrain yourself for killing and survive!”
