BECAUSE HE CHEATED
The atmosphere was good that evening as a lady sat comfortably with her legs crossed, watching her favorite series. Her phone buzzed softly on the center table, diverting her attention away from the soap opera she was watching.
Lisa picked up the phone hastily to check whatever message might have come in. She had thought it was her husband, Alex, who had messaged —probably to inform her he'd be staying out late that night as well.
If it was, she wouldn't be surprised as it had turned into a routine that he would never cease from; sometimes, she wondered why he still sent her those kinds of messages! But then it turned out she was wrong. Again, she received the same message from an anonymous sender as before.
“... The earlier you divorce Alex and leave him for me, the better for you, woman! You have no place in his life, you know where you belong instead...” The message reads. “This isn't a joke or an empty threat —divorce Alex if you know what's best for you!”
Lisa felt a chill run down her spine as she read the text message. This was the third time she had received a message like this, and it was starting to freak her out even though she knew who kept sending her these messages.
It was Rosy. As recalled, Rosy is her husband's ex-girlfriend and first crush.
The first time she received the message was a month ago, and she didn't hesitate to show Alex the message, but instead of reacting to the message, he called the number with his cellphone —that was how he got back to his ex-girlfriend.
"Why are you contacting my wife, eh?" Alex demanded, his voice was on the pretense of being low and threatening. "This is completely unacceptable, Rosy. You need to stop this, right now."
Rosy, on the other end, gave a light laugh, the sound grating on Alex's nerves. "I don't think I will." She replied, her tone light and mocking. "I like playing with her mind, Alex. It's so much fun. You don't get it, do you? I'll never let her be happy with you. I'll do anything to tear you two apart."
After Rosy's response, though Lisa couldn't hear what she had said, she could still swear she saw her husband's lips parted in a tempting smile. "Do you want us to meet during the weekend?" He asked, his voice flirtatious. "Perhaps to catch up with those times we were apart. Or what do you think?
It was as though Lisa heard wrong at that moment, maybe it's her ears that lost their function. "Alex..." She blurted out, red with anger as her eyes widened at her husband's confession. "What in Pete's name are you doing?"
"What does it look like I'm doing?" He replied nonchalantly in the iciest voice he could muster. "You shouldn't get in my way unless you really want us to divorce, as Rosy suggested."
Lisa felt as if she had been slapped in the face. She couldn't believe what she was hearing, it was like a bad dream. The man she's married to was flirting with his ex-girlfriend, right in front of her. And he didn't even seem to care that she was there, listening to every word.
"Alex, I..." She stammered, her voice shaking as her knee went weak due to his reply. "I don't understand what's going on. Why are you doing this? Why are you being so cruel?"
Alex's eyes flashed with anger. "I'm not being cruel, woman, I'm just being honest." He snapped in a hoarse voice that was void with no trace of emotion in it. "After all, I'm done trying to keep up with such a woman like you as my wife."
—that was the beginning of Lisa losing her husband to Rosy!
Lisa's phone buzzed yet again in her grip, snapping her out of her train of thoughts. She stared blankly at her phone's screen, it was another message from the same anonymous sender —Rosy, to be precise!
“... Still doubting that Alex can never be yours? You need proof that's attached to my claim? Then meet me at his hospital and see for yourself... ” The second message reads.
Alex wasn't at home at the moment, even if he was, she couldn't show her the message anyway, already aware of how he's going to react to the message —no, she didn't want that to repeat itself.
Lisa had wanted to ignore the message but somehow, her curiosity, was peaked which led her to indirectly accept the unpleasant invitation. After all, she needed to see things for herself as well, right?
She quickly dressed up and was about leaving the house, hoping that whatever Rosy revealed to her wouldn't cause her lots of damage. She put on a body-fitting black dress which she knew would arouse Alex's attention, plus, she was going to see his ex-girlfriend, so she had to put on something alluring to keep her at bay.
That was the plan, at least.
As she got to the hospital, her palms were sweating and her heart was racing. She wasn't sure what she was about to do, but something deep inside her told her she must go through with it.
She walked into the hospital, instead of looking around for Rosy, her instinct knew exactly where to go to at the moment —Alex's Office! She had heard enough rumor about both of them, but she chose not to believe the media.
As Lisa walked through the hospital, she felt like she was being watched. She tried to ignore the feeling, but it only grew stronger as she neared Alex's office. When she reached the door, she hesitated for a moment, wondering if she should go in.
But something compelled her to open the door. She did and step inside —what Lisa saw inside the office was enough to make her collapse on the same spot she was standing.
"No...!" She blurted out in denial, shaking her head negatively in a vigorous manner —her eyes were obviously playing a dirty trick on her. "This isn't the Alex I got married to...!"
