Chapter Three: Why are we running away again?

CHAPTER THREE:  WHY ARE WE RUNNING AWAY AGAIN?  {hani blithe's point of view}  For the first time in my life, I'm running away from werewolves.     Now that is something that I didn't know would be possible for me to say, let alone for me to actually do. Who would be someone, who's job is to actually kill wolves, would even dare and run away from them? I should be the one that they should be running away from, not the other way around!      Then again, this was a first. For every time I came across one so hideous, my number priority is to kill them. Make them pay. Shed their blood, f*****g end their f*****g lives. All of these creatures make me visibly sick.      However, something changed on this very day. I have another priority in mind and that is to keep Nvae safe. She's the reason as to why I am not going into a rampage and killing another werewolf who dares show themselves to me.      She needs me to keep her safe.      I have to be f*****g sane for her, because if something happens to me- she'll f*****g come back to that f*****g hell home. I don't want that.     Sacrificing my long dreamt revenge was easy when it comes to her safety, so I need to make sure that I take responsibility for her. Nvae is the only family that I have left and I will not f**k this up. Not again.      My heartbeat continues to escalate as I try to ransacked my brain for any possible way to escape since the possible chance of killing them is as thin as a paper in this current moment. Aside from that obvious fact, killing a mongrel have its consequences.      How the f**k did I end up in this position? The old me must have been laughing at the situation that I am currently in. I, Hani Blithe, the most skilled werewolf hunter is currently trying to outrun one. Well, not one wolf but three weak werewolves.     I do admit that killing them triggered a big fraction of my brain since they're pissing me the hell off, but I need to figure out the pros and cons of my actions. Killing them in this situation would just only resort to my death and probably, along with my partner's death. Naturally, we really didn't think about dying in their hands as that is nothing but impossible.     However, we had made a terrible mistake along the way.     Nvae and I became way too comfortable in this place that we didn't even have some kind of weapon in our hands since we've just arrived in this new town. We're even stupid enough to get way too far in the forest that we naturally wanted. It seems like we're slowly losing our touch as the mark of the year came to my knowledge. Furthermore, we come here with a huge hope to continue our new normal life. Bringing weapon isn't exactly ideal to that context.     Besides, silver weapons are so f*****g heavy.      My rusty brain didn't flicker on as I desperately need something that I could do. I mean, I can't just keep on running from those wolves. Not only does that drains my energy, but that wouldn't take us into something remotely good.     "Dammit, Hani!" I heard Nvae cussed as she appeared on my side, frantically catching her breath. She yelped as her feet almost tangled in a branch, "Can you please tell me whose idea is this s**t? We're basically running away from those ugly, sock smelling, sorry for a breed of dogs!"     We heard them snap their teeth at us, even releasing that ferocious growl at our direction, probably hearing Nvae's pissed ranting. Nvae, seeing this kind of thing as a form of amusement, released a very sarcastic laugh, "That's right, you all smell like socks and you all are a sorry version of dogs!"     Sigh.     Nvae's temper is not always ideal when she's pissed, especially when it comes to someone who is claiming what is "hers". She has been becoming quite possessive for my taste, but most of the time- she controls it. I wonder what had happened today.      "Way to go, keep them more pissed than that and we'll probably die in a snap," I snarled at her which caused her to smile wearily at me. Flashing her my sharp gaze, she suddenly looks away as she doubles her pace, "If you figured out that they were mutts in the beginning and not inflict them some kind of pain by using silver, we shouldn't be having any sort of trouble right now!"     "Seriously, Hani? You're bringing that one right now?! He grabbed what's mine!" I heard her huff before she groaned, obviously failing as she tries her best to catch her usual pace, "Dammit, these stupid tree branches are so annoying! Get out of the freaking way! You're as stupid as these mutts!"     I groaned, "f*****g hell, V!"      The countless sound of howls invaded our ears, making us double our current pace. That familiar sound of their dangerous howls as the continues escalation of our heartbeat are the ones that probably triggered our mind into a frenzy. The very fear that settled into our minds is setting us back into the same old dark way of how we were trained to kill them in a time like this.      As if like everything was planned, my eyes caught different routes ahead of us, even making some tree branch laying on the side of the trees that are sturdy enough for me to hold on to.     I know we're not supposed to kill them, but we don't have any other choice. Either we die or they die, and of course, I choose the latter.      My brain worked in just a snap, setting that dark sinister aura around me which possibly made Nvae look at my direction. Sensing the determination in my eyes, she released this dejected sigh as she nodded at me weakly. Instantly, something inside me ignited as my usual sense of killing them intensified. The sounds of their paws that's hitting the ground caught my ears.     Now or never.     "You go left, I'll go right," Nvae alert me lightly.     The current wheels in my brain stopped for a nanosecond as I put my attention on her. Nvae flashed her signature smirk at me, probably thinking that I didn't see the way that she's slowly faltering.      She might be a great hunter but running along with fighting isn't her forte.      Her amazing use of weaponry, computers and killing these wolves are basically off the hook—but that would require her in a huge distance between them. She's a marksman and someone who can shoot people in a far distance with no errors. True that in some scenario, she can shoot in a small distance but that is unlikely by this very second. Nvae is great at shooting people but we don't have a gun with us, not even a small one. I made sure of that as I was sure that there are no threats here.     Besides, she didn't even get a chance to practice more on combats.      "Nvae, don't be stupid. I won't leave you," My voice is laced with this powerful voice that I don't understand but she doesn't seem in any way affected. Determination lingers in her eyes and I bit my lips, knowing that I just triggered this sensitive part inside her, "You know what I mean!"     She just nodded as her eyes focused on the right side—carefully calculating her ways, "We're an easy target when we're together, Hani. Besides you're not the only one who knows how to kill them. I have a thing or two that I learned from the three idiots."     "That's not what I mean," I sighed but I nodded, agreeing to her plan. No matter how try I deny it, we are an easy target when we're together.      As I saw my cue, I glance back at her, "Now."     My body automatically shifted into the left side of the words, taking notice that just like what Nvae expected- those wolves separated their way too. The pace behind me was catching up fast so with that theory, I reached into a stable branch before I swing back into the wolf, kicking it hard enough that I sent it into the forest floor. The wolf shook his head as he growls at me, making me smirk at his pathetic action. It was always an easy thing to annoy these wolves for they care nothing about their pride.      They were gifted with such fast speed and incredibly strong bodies so it was understandable at how their little mind would see just how superior they are. When it comes to getting one on one with us hunters, these fuckers are nothing but proud to what they have. So when someone taunts these "gifts" right before their faces, I am sure that they are nothing but pissed at how I am belittling them.     Most wolves go crazy with that and didn't even notice that I was getting in their mind. Even with my strength and knowledge in combat, it was always an easy win when I get inside my opponent's mind. It serves as that fucker's disadvantage when I have him wrapped in his mind.      Without even realizing that just how much I know his kind works, it charged into me which I just dodged easily as I jumped into some tree branch. It kept snapping his mouth to my direction which growling in my direction.      "How predictable," I grumbled which made the wolf go into the edge, snapping his canines at me. That reaction itself sends me into a high, "Aw, did I just pissed of some old, disgusting, dirty looking wolf? Oh no! Oh no! What should I do?"     He growled at my direction.     "Should I give a f**k?" I asked, frowning. When I saw him growling in nothing but rage, that's when I continued my words, "Of course not. You can go and f**k yourself."      Not even giving it a time to set another reaction, I dunk down as I saw something shiny from my boots. My mouth formed into a loop sided smirk before I jumped into him, pushing the small silver knife on his chest, twisting it very hard which caused him to whine in nothing but pain.      Thank heavens for my lazy ass for not putting that knife out of my boots.      He released another loud whimper as the knife reached his heart and soon enough, he dropped into the ground as he shifted back into his human body, now without a sign of life. That's what you get, you good for nothing.     "And that's how it's done," I muttered with full triumphant lacing on my cold voice.     After wiping my small silver dagger into my jeans, I pushed it back into my boots. My feet cautiously walked towards the way we separated ways and soon enough, I feel this anxiety running through my nerves. s**t. Where was that again? I continue to run in circles, completely confused and utterly scared that I didn't remember where we parted ways.     "No... no, you got to be kidding me!" I muttered in huge disbelief as I take a good look around, but now, I'm completely lost. I don't even remember the place where I just killed that werewolf. Slowly pacing around, I absentmindedly bit my lips in huge disbelief as the paranoia and anxiety rushed in my brain, "Dammit, Nvae! You're so stupid!"     There's this part of me that keeps on whispering that I did this—I bought her into another devastating, traumatic cycle in her life. Moving in a flash, I reached our new cabin as I make my way in our basement, pushing all of her equipment open. As soon as I press my passwords, the computer asked for my biometrics as it pushed all of the needed information. Now, I just need Nvae to turn her navigation on.     It feels weird being in front of these pieces of equipment and away from the field. Nvae has always been the one in front of the computer, calmly trying to navigate my location whenever I ended up getting locked up in one of the wolves' some kind of cell house. Being at this position, I never understand how she stays so calm. Most of the time that she rescued me, I didn't even get a chance to press my navigator but she already located my whereabouts.     Nothing flashed on the computer, indicating that she's still far from the radius that can the computer can trace. All my possible hopes of finding Nvae all depends in her pushing that navigator open as I think of the countless ways to rescue her.     Why didn't I learn how to f*****g run this thing? I know that she can override the beads, but did she f*****g do that? f**k!      There were three mutts that were following us and since I only got to kill one wolf, that would mean that she's stuck with two male werewolves... and... no, no. She's fine. Damn it.     My heart is beating erratically, something that I am not quite fond of. I get a lot of sense of first time today, which is a fact that I can't still comprehend. If it's a good thing kind of first time, I would be grateful but this is nowhere near a good thing.     This can not be happening to me. — ✾ — {nvae nixon's point of view}  I am not at one with nature, I know that now.      As soon I turn right, my eyes search frantically for something that could endanger the wolves that were chasing me, but there's clearly nothing that can put any harm to him. Unless a leaf can harm him, that would so be freaking fantastic. Damn it, why didn't I bring a gun with me?      How did the fact that they were werewolves even shift from my eyes?      It was for a moment, I forgot the world that I lived in. Only my ring can remind me of my past and ever since we run away from those wolves, I made sure to throw that f*****g thing out of my hand. That might be a bad thing for people- but that ring connotes my alliance with the headquarters.     And I didn't want that reminder.      Besides the fact that these stinky dogs are chasing me, I think I lost my stuffed animal. I almost groan. This is so not my day.      My eyes caught a glimpse of a tree branch and I did my best to swing myself back into the wolf, causing him to lose his balance just for quite a moment, but since I still suffer from the gash in my shoulder, my hit was rather weak. I'm not even that strong enough to knock him down in the ground.     How can I do this without a weapon? I'm not great at combat.     His dangerous red eyes flicker into mine and that just triggered my brain to see this whole thing like I was in the practice arena in the headquarters and I'm just about to kill an illusion. My eyes held no emotion, making him quite surprised in my actions. Probably surprised that a human could actually lose his balance and not shiver in fear as he shows his red eyes, the mutt growled at me.     "Aww, did the poor old mutt almost lost its balance to a female human? Boo hoo!"     The beast released another snarl before it ran into my direction, ready to end my sorry for a life. My lips formed into a smirk as I mimic his actions so I can tackle him down. The fate must have given up on me because as I was focused enough with the wolf, I suddenly twisted my ankle which then made me released a soft muffled cry as my body dumped into the cold hard ground.     Don't you just love it when everything is a complete mess? Damn it.      I looked back to the wolf who has now a smug emotion written in his face. Unlike before, he stood before me as he takes his time to walk towards me. My body tried to escape my obvious death which seems to be driving his satisfaction more into the edge. He stood tall as he lifted a paw, ready to leave its mark on me.     But before he can even put a single layer of his fur on me, a large blonde wolf tackled him back into the ground, completely catching him off guard. Not even given it time to react, the blonde wolf sunk his teeth into the other wolf that automatically killed the stinky wolf. My eyes, however, didn't fall from that cautious stance as I look around me.     I'm very sure that two dusky looking wolves followed me.     The golden brown wolf pushed all of his attention to me before making sure that the other wolf is dead. His eyes wandered around me before it finally halted into my feet. A small whine escapes from him lips which made me feel something burning from below. Looking from where he was looking, I could almost curse as I saw the trail of blood flowing from my feet.      It would seem like I caught that much force without noticing it.      What the hell. Thanks, nature.      First my shoulder, and now my feet. Just how much am I going to get before I can live a normal life? There's this intense worry written in his eyes as he even released this soft whine, which just seems crazy—even for me. And trust me, I know crazy.     "I'm freaking fantastic," I muttered slowly before I took my time to stand up and look at him without the vulnerability playing in my eyes. His eyes grew more cautious as it flickers back to my face and to my feet, "Therefore, I can still beat you."     At the sound of the determination in my voice, his eyes returned back into my face and there's this huge amusement playing in his eyes. If I didn't know better, I would think that he found my words entertaining which I do understand why.          This man seemed very strong. Unlike the normal wolves that I would see, he looks much more larger and healthy. His furs were perfect unlike what I normally see. There's something wrong with him.      He was looking at me with something that I wasn't used to. He looked like someone proud of who he was and it crossed my mind that he might be a part of the triad. It took me only one second to laugh at that thought. For if he was a part of those three, I should be already dead by now.      The wolf shifted his position which made me jolt and move around, denoting just how antsy as I was. I saw him tilt his head, seemingly teasing me. Rolling my eyes, I returned into my fighting stance to fight him off. At my stance, the wolf's eyes suddenly turned into a midnight black eyes and I—     Wait, wait, wait! Hold on! Back up a little!      Black eyes!?      His eyes were in the shade of blue when I first got a glimpse of him... don't they all have that same red bloody eyes? I never see a wolf's eyes flicker into a different shade of color or even in a shade other than red!     The wolf released a very dangerous growl, pushing me out of my thoughts. His eyes scan me coldly which practically send shivers into my spine. He then charged into me, driving my body into a frenzy. The hunter part of me wants to charge back to him, but my body suddenly feels weak.     I stood there, visibly frozen in fear and confusion. There's this part of that's ready to submit to my death but he just passed before me. My eyes followed his direction and gasped as I saw him snapping his canines into the other wolf that was charging behind me. He wasn't going to attack me?      He was... protecting me...?      My body wanted to run away, seeing this a chance to escape. As my feet took a step, I yelped all too suddenly while the darkness starts to corrupt my body. Before my body could even collide to the hard ground, there's this warm hand that welcomed my body.       Since my eyes were hazy, I couldn't see anything clear; but I do see a fraction of a man with a blonde hair. His lips were in a firm line as he leaned forward, kissing my eyelids close as he releases a soft growl.     "Mine."
