Chapter 9 Taylor made him wait by the beach promenade while she strutted across the road. The promenade was brightly lit with yellow street lights that appeared prominent against the black backdrop of the sea. Taylor found him standing a foot away from his car, observing the crowd around him in amusement. Carefree, he held an expression of contentment like nothing in the world mattered to him unlike her.  A boy running past him fell and scraped his knee. He was about to cry, when Chase raised his brow in question and looked at him like an elder brother would. Taking a cue from Chase, he quickly brushed his knees and ran like nothing happened while Chase waved out to him. Taylor looked in wonder, how could anyone be so cheerful and satisfied all the time. "Well, I'm here to change all of that. He threatened Zac like it's no big deal, but it is to me..." she murmured and looked at him with extreme loathing , for Zac was more precious to her than anything.    It wasn't long before Chase glanced in her direction and grinned as he checked her out. There was this unexplained excitement to have her there. Much as he wanted to get her laid that night and win the bet, the efforts that would go into tempting her was what he looked forward to. So far Taylor had come across as an easy catch, unlike what he had expected during their initial encounters. "Wow! You look..." he paused to find the perfect word. "I'm above all those adjectives you plan to use on me tonight," she responded and flipped her hair. "Right...I should have known that better," he smirked and escorted her to his car. "Mind if I ask why you insisted on getting picked up here than your home ? I do remember the way though...you live somewhere..." "No!" She hurriedly protested and recoiled realising her tone. "I meant...no I didn't want to trouble you, besides the lane I live in is a one way...so..." she fibbed and avoided eye contact. The thought of him coming anywhere closer to Zac made her sweat in fear. "The heat gets crazier by the day, doesn't it?" he noticed the flushes on her cheeks and lowered the temperature in his car. "That's why I escape to my secret hive, well it's no secret anymore. It's a family getaway...heard about Lacoste island?"  "No.." she responded sheepishly. "Well how would you? It's our private island..." he chuckled. "You know Taylor, you must step out of that boutique once in a while and explore Miami. There's a reason they call it The Magic City," he asserted. "Oh really, I wonder how Camila would react if she were to learn her nephew was instigating her employees to go on vacation,"  "That's possible only if someone were to tell her...besides you're my secret keeper," he smirked. "Is it inborn or you trust people easily because you've never been betrayed before," she remarked. "I wasn't expecting that coming from you, especially since you were witness to what I do with betrayers," he stated and kept his eyes fixed on the road. Taylor realized she had inadvertently brought out a subject that turned the mood serious. Fearing she had cheesed him off, she hurriedly placed her hand over his on the gear. Chase felt the warmth of her frail hand and glanced at her. Finding it silly to have done it in the first place, she cringed and withdrew her hand nervously. "Damn, I hope I'm not throwing myself all over him too soon..." she thought and looked out the window while Chase smiled within for he felt she was halfway through falling for his charms. "Much as I like what you're wearing tonight, it would have been better coming in what you had  under that bath robe the other day," he commented mischievously as they pulled over and walked into a pool party. "Seems someone is very intrigued to see what I have in there," she responded with a sly smile. "And she's also a mind reader...you never cease to amaze me, do you?" he laughed boisterously and grabbed the attention of his buddy who was also the host of the evening.  "So the man turns up late as usual!" he walked up to them and greeted Chase with few insults and abuses. "Don't blame me, it was the lady who kept me waiting," Chase replied and put her in an awkward situation while his friend had a good look at her.  "Ahh, I don't blame you mate! A bit of waiting for a pretty company doesn't harm...never," he winked and whispered something that cracked him up. Just when things were getting awkward standing there, while the two friends spoke, Chase excused himself and advised Taylor to feel comfortable before the host whisked him away. Taylor extend her arm in protest, but paused realizing he was too occupied with his friends. "This wasn't what i was expecting, but it's a much needed relief..." she said to herself and felt relaxed since he wasn't around or so she thought until the minutes passed and there was no sign of him. Sauntering around a mansion all by her own, Taylor felt all the more ignored and a misfit among the skimpily clad models. Keeping her company was the session of drinks she kept having as her heavy eyes now desperately searched for Chase.  "I knew I would find you here, you son of a b****," He addressed Phil whilst catching him red handed in the restroom with three gorgeous ladies. Embarrassed, he put on his clothes while the other three left giggling all the way. "There's something called as a knock, remember?" he remarked. "And there's a place called the bedroom...Gross this place reeks of urine," he commented and pulled his leg further. "So wise guy...I heard you ran into Carrie the other day, how was the aftermath?" "Carrie? Wasn't it Melissa...Wait how did you know? Oh ya your sister..." Chase rolled his eyes before he recalled all about Taylor. "Freak, I completely forgot about Taylor," He cussed and head back to the main hall. "Whoa, whoa...she's here...you actually talked her into coming here?" Phil found it unbelievable.  "I'm a Franshaw...nobody can resist one..." Chase rubbed his stubble and smiled mischievously. "Hold your horses son...you don't win it unless you do it. As per my experience, keeping a lady waiting is like digging your own grave. She's gonna be pretty mad at you, and trust me...getting laid with a temper like that is beyond possible, even for Franshaw," Phil smirked and clearly stated that tonight was not his night. However Chase remained undeterred and instead asserted that nothing was impossible for a Franshaw, even if it meant pleasing the Goddess of Wrath. "Watch and learn..." He quoted and had few drinks before approaching Taylor. "Enjoying yourself?" He asked in a soft tone and sat right beside her so their legs brushed. Taylor glanced at him with drowsy eyes and responded with a nod. She appeared totally drunk and out of her senses. Chase noticed the row of empty glasses and realized he had kept her waiting more than an hour. "Wow, that's quite a number you've got there..." he pointed at the glasses and smiled at her. "You find this impressive? You should see me at the bar...i'm reckless," she smiled goofily. "He says he's glad I didn't take up bar tending or I would end up being wasted all the time," she added and grabbed his attention. "He...now I'm curious about this certain he..." Chase leaned over and rested his arm over her shoulder. "Is he your boyfriend?" he enquired and gently ran his gaze down her sweaty cleavage. "Why would you want to know that? Are you jealous?" she looked at him in amusement and laughed. Tracing circles over her bare shoulder, he shifted his gaze to her waist and all the way down to her smooth long legs. Like a cold blooded python, measuring it's prey before making the kill. Chase could perfectly picture those legs wrapped around his waist. "Jealous...I'm rather surprised how he let loose a gorgeous lady out in the night when you should have stayed safe inside..." "Safe...are you telling me I'm not safe here...with you?" she narrowed her eyes as he now appeared blurred. "That's like asking a serial killer if you're safe with him..." he shifted his gaze back to her eyes and stared coldly. For a second, he did sound like one and left Taylor a bit shaken. "Are your scaring me?" her voice wavered and as she leaned away from his arm and placed her drink down. "Are you scared..." he whispered and played with her ear loops. "It would take more than being a serial killer to scare me.." she let out a soft laugh and dropped her arms down, pressing her breast to her knees in a tease.  "And what would that be?" he leaned down as well and brought his face closer to hers.  "That's a secret...I'm not telling anyone," she whispered before he cupped her face and sat upright. "You're good at keeping secrets, aren't you?" he looked deep into her eyes. "How about i give you another one..." he whispered seductively and before she knew it, had his hungry lips over hers. Hot and wet, his mouth tasted her alcohol bathed lips as he aggressively kissed her. Intoxicated, Taylor felt helpless and failed to push him away. Pressing her hand against his sturdy chest, she let him kiss her for as long as he pleased. It seemed more like she was enjoying it, especially when he pulled back and trailed kisses across her neck. Throwing back her head, she parted her lips and moaned. Aware that it was Chase, she let herself imagine she was making out with Zac. Tickled by his touch, she giggled like a high school girl and rose from her seat. As her favourite song came up, she clumsily pulled him past others and lead the way to the center. With the lights low and music as loud as it could get, she elegantly ran her fingers through her hair and swayed her hips so erotically that it turned Phil on from a distance, as he watched them in disappointment.
