Kevin’s P.O.V.

I was hurt when Betty ignored me as if I never existed for her. I just glanced over me when her friend asked her something. They were a little far from us and they were talking in whispers that made me unable to listen to what they were talking about. I desperately wanted to know what was wrong with Betty today. Okay… I agreed that we couldn’t talk in front of others in the school but it didn’t mean that she would ignore me.

As soon as the class finished, I messaged her to meet me at our secret place. I only wanted to know what was wrong with her today. She thought that I always ignored her as if she didn’t exist but it was not true. I always kept an eye on her because she was the most precious person for me in this whole world. She couldn’t feel this but I knew that I couldn’t live without her. It was me who kept all those boys who were interested in her away from her.

I noticed her every expression while eating the burger that she brought today. To be honest, it was only an excuse to see her whenever I needed to be near her. I longed for her; I craved for her but…. I couldn’t be with her. I have so many enemies just because of the title that I held and I didn’t want any danger for her. My heart hurt and Neo whimpered inside my mind when we both noticed the same coldness in her responses that we were noticing since the beginning of school today.

When she stood up after taking the lunch box from me, I lost control. I stormed towards her and pulled her towards me from her arm. She landed straight on my chest erupting so many sparks all over my body. My eyes met with her emerald green eyes that always mesmerized me. For me, she was the most beautiful girl in the world. “What’s wrong, Betty?” I asked her again as she was looking at me while blinking lightly. “Nothing is wrong, Kevin… I am perfectly fine”, she said in a soft but low voice and tried to remove herself from my grip. I tightened my grip on her wrist and wrapped another hand around her waist securing her in my embrace. “Then why are you ignoring me?” I asked her still looking into her eyes.

“This is for our best, Kevin and you know this…. You are the most popular boy in the school…. Almost every girl wants to be your girlfriend whereas I am nothing but a backbencher. You… and… I…(I felt the c***k in her voice but she was trying to be strong on her stance) … there is nothing that can define as us…. So… it will be better for my own good that I never notice you around me. That … that will keep me safe from all those jealous girls and also…(she smiled weakly) …. This is not going to affect you in any way, right?” I could see the pain and hurt in her eyes that she was trying hard to mask.

She was now smiling but it was the most painful smile that I had seen on her face till now. I didn’t reply to her back. We both were now looking at each other without saying anything. “No”, I broke the silence after a long deafening pause. She looked at me in confusion. “No… I refused to be ignored by you… I don’t care who has a crush on me or not.. I don’t care about any other girl but you… you can’t ignore me. We…. We… are best friends since we know each other. If… if you want… we can go public… I … I don’t care”, I was now blabbering when she suddenly put her finger on my lips.

I paused and looked at her pleadingly. “Kevin….we are best friends and this is not going to be change any soon. Yet I can’t even talk to you in front of anyone in the school or outside if someone known to us is in front of us. I don’t know why you are so secretive about our friendship but I never complained. I am not complaining now because I value our friendship. It’s just…. You have already a group of friends and so many others like a normal teenager. On the other hand… look at me… I mean… I also want a normal teenage life that all other girls have… I want to date… I want to go out with my friends… with any other boy who is interested me”, she paused and closed her eyes. She took a deep breath. Her words were piercing my heart like hell.

“I just want to have a normal life like you. So”, she looked at me with a small smile on her lips that was not reaching her. “It’s better for me to avoid looking at you here… we are friends… we always befriend… I can promise you that”, she again tried to remove herself from my grip. This time I released her against my will…. Against Neo’s protest.

“I need to go… Maya is waiting for me”, she said while lowering her eyes and without looking at me for once, leaving me there alone. I looked at her retreating figure. I knew that she was crying but I couldn’t be able to stop her this time. “Stop her… please”, Neo whimpered in my mind and tears started running down from my eyes this time.

“You know…. We can’t have her… she will not be able to survive”, I was choked on my voice. Neo whimpered aloud and blocked me. I looked up at the sky as if I was complaining to the Moon Goddess why I had to do this. What did I do wrong that I was punished in this way?

“Where are you?” suddenly I got a mind-link from my best friend and Beta Nash. “Something came up… where are you guys?” I asked him while wiping my eyes and face. I started working towards the downstairs. “We are near the library… something happens here… come fast”, he said in a tense voice this time and my ears instantly perked up.

Betty was going to the library when I called her. “I am coming”, I said while almost running down from the stairs. My heart was thumping aloud inside my rib and Neo was roaring inside my mind while thinking about Betty in any danger. “I tried to mind link Nash again but didn’t reach him which made me worried more for Betty.

I saw a group of students gathered around something. A girl was yelling aloud with the mixture of Nash’s voice. I passed through the crowd and saw Nash holding Maya from her waist up in the air. She was thrashing her hands and legs in the air while yelling aloud at Nash. I looked down and saw a boy lying on the ground. Vincent was holding Betty who had hid her face in his chest while sitting on his toes on the ground. Betty was lying near him.

It took all my strength to control myself for snatching Betty from Vincent’s embrace. “What happened?” I asked Vincent while going near them. He looked up at me with a very cold gaze. His eyes were flickering that meant his wolf was trying to surface. I heard Betty’s sob and that was when I noticed blood on her arm.

“How dare he touch my friend? How dare he hurt her? I will kill him… leave me”, Maya was roaring aloud while fuming in danger. “Maya…. Calm down… you already have knocked him down… calm down”, Nash was trying to calm her down but she was infuriating more by his words. “What happened?” I roared this time and now there was silence. Maya stopped yelling and now taking deep breaths.

She removed Nash grip from her waist and ran towards Betty. She carefully took Betty in her embrace from Vincent and thanked him silently. It was when I saw bruises on Betty’s cheek and her shirt from the shoulder was torn. “Maya… take her to the infirmary… we… we will take care here”, I almost commanded Maya. She wanted to defy me but couldn’t. She silently stood up with Betty in her embrace. “I am going with her”, Vincent said to me and I nodded.

I looked around and everyone scattered immediately. Only a few boys who I supposed were the friends of that boy lying on the ground unconscious were now sitting beside that boy. Nash came near to me and I looked at him questioningly. “Betty was going inside the library when Leo approached her and asked her out. She… she refused him and it infuriated him. He tried to grab her hand. She tried to yank her hand that tore her shirt. Leo had gripped her so hard that it drew blood from her hand. They both argued and in a fit of anger, Leo slapped her so hard that she fell down on the ground. Maya came out and… rest you can guess”, he said while rubbing his forehead.

I was happy that Betty had a friend like Maya. Maya was also a werewolf but from the other pack. That was why she didn’t want to obey me but she knew that she couldn’t defy me. “You won’t believe that Betty actually hit Leo”, Nash chuckled and I looked at him with raised brows. I was about to ask him when I heard a teacher yelling at us.

“Mr Wolf… care to explain what happened here”, the teacher Mr Wilkinson asked me while glaring at me. He was a human and didn’t know anything about us. “He misbehaved with a girl and bruised her. In order to save herself, she and her friend beat him..  you can ask his friends”, I looked at the boys who were now trembling in fear.

“He… is right… Leo fought with Betty and Maya… Betty is in the infirmary now”, one of the boys informed Mr Wilkinson and he clenched his jaw. “Take him to the infirmary too. I need to tell everything to the principal. There is no way that the school will stand such kind of action. How dare he mistreat a girl”, Mr Wilkinson was now fuming in anger but his anger was towards Leo.

“You can see Betty, Sir… she has deep bruises on her left cheek and also he has torn her shirt and drew blood from her arm”, Nash fueled his anger and Mr Wilkinson shot daggers on unconscious Leo. He then stormed out from there without looking at us. The boys looked at us and then carried Leo away towards the infirmary. “Do you want to go to her?” Nash whispered and I looked away in the other direction while shaking my head in no.
