Alex’s P.O.V.
I was lying on my bed. I was totally exhausted, tired, and frustrated. Mom told me about Austin. Anaira hates him the most because he was the reason, her father died. I yelled at Mom but then she reasoned her decision I was speechless.
She was right. In the whole world, Austin is the next person, who could save her at any cost. He was her God Father.
“Alex, let the past bygone and we should concentrate on them”, she said with the hope that I could understand her.
I closed my eyes and both Anaira’s and my daughter’s face came in front of my eyes. The pain on their faces was heart-crushing.
“I think that we should transfer the baby to Austin's hospital too. He will take care of them with all his efforts and also it can hide them from the danger which is lurking outside for them. Then it would be easy for us to take care of them as well as secure them”, Mom’s words were ringing in my ears.
She was right. What had happened before was not the sole fault of Antonio. He never thought that calling his friend to pick him up would cost his life. They were like brothers according to Mom. So, it would also be a great loss for him. He not only lost his brother and friend but also lost the love of his family. I could trust him for the safety of my family.
I picked my phone and dialed Ryan’s number.
“Ryan.. I am sending you the address of a hospital. Shift the baby to that hospital. I am also sending you the contact details of the person whom you have to contact there. Call him and make the necessary arrangements”, I instructed him and he confirmed his agreement.
“Will you be there when we shift her?”, he asked me.
I stood up from my bed and went towards the window from where I can see at the farthest end of the street. When I was coming back to home, I saw a towing van at the corner of the alley. That time I didn’t mind its presence. But It was still standing there.
“No Ryan… I am trusting Danny completely in this matter. You have to be at your duty within an hour. I am suspicious about some activity outside my house”, I told him while looking at the Van behind the curtain.
I cut the call and put the phone on the table again.
Ryan was right. There must be someone near to me who had tricked me all these years and kept her captive. There were only 3 persons in my life apart from Mom on whom I could with my life. There was my father, my cousin Matthew and my best friend John.
I sat on the rest chair and leaned back. I was staring at the ceiling floor.
Some glimpses of the past clouded my mind.
“Alex…. Why don’t you understand? You trust everyone so easily, it will put you in trouble someday”, Anaira said irritatingly.
We were fighting over trusting someone. I easily trust anyone. Anaira was annoyed because she thought that it was too easy to deceive me.
I know that it was not good, especially for a businessman to trust someone easily. In our world, we have more enemies than friends. You can’t say who your real well-wisher is and who would stab you in the back.
“Come on Anaira, take it easy. It’s not that someone is going to snatch you from me. If it comes to you, I can’t trust anyone except myself. Rest nothing matters to me”, I said while engulfing her in my embrace.
I came out of my trance by a knock on the door. I stood up from the chair and went towards the door.
Austin’s P.O.V.
I was staring at my phone. My mind was spinning around. Everything is so unclear and hazy. Anaira… my baby…. Was in ICU struggling for her life and someone named Ryan called me that he was ordered to shift Anaira’s daughter from the other hospital in the name of someone else daughter. What was the real f**k.
Cynthia told me not to call her. She would contact me. She told me that Anaira’s boyfriend, a business Tycoon, Alex Carter found her in the middle of woods during the heavy storm last night. He somehow succeeded in saving their daughters too about whom nobody knows a thing. Someone kidnapped her 6 years ago and they were not able to track her till yesterday.
I sighed and leaned back on my chair.
“What is happening, Antonio? We didn’t imagine this future for our angel. Why did she suffer so much?”, my mind was totally screwed this time.
I came out of my trance when someone knocked at the door of my cabin.
“Come in”, I called.
Dr. Elijah came inside. He was a young pediatrician who recently joined my hospital 6 months before. He was very cheerful and very good at kids. His patients love him very much.
“Good morning Dr. Smith. The nurse said that you wanted to see me”, he greeted me and I signaled him to sit down. I straightened my back and then said to him.
“Yes Dr. Elijah, actually I need your special attention and sincere help in one critical case”, he looked curiously at me. I cleared my throat and started speaking again.
“Well…. My granddaughter is going to be transferred to our pediatric ICU within an hour. I really don’t have any idea about her condition. All I know is that she was exposed to last night's storm for a good few hours with very less clothes on her body. She was almost drowned in a pit filled with water when her father rescued her. He was out due to some work and no one was at the home. So no one really knows what happened with her and how did she end up there. He admitted her to a nearby hospital as she was sinking but now she is stable. So, he requested me to help her and we planned to shift here as it would be easier for me to take care of her".
I took a breath and he nodded in agreement.
“No worries Dr. Smith, I will especially take care of her. She is your granddaughter, so precious to all of us of course”, he said with a genuine smile on his face.
I was about to say something when suddenly the door burst opened and a nurse came running inside.
“Sir… they have reached. We are shifting her to pediatric ICU”, she informed me and I immediately shot up from my seat and strode towards the ward with Dr. Elijah on my tail.
As soon as we reached the second floor in Pediatric ICU, I almost ran towards the ward. Ryan told me that his brother named Danny would be there as her father because they didn’t have any clue who was that b*****d who did all this crap, they admitted her in the name of Danny’s daughter. I have to pretend here also.
There were 3 men standing with the attending doctors outside the ward. I didn’t know who Danny was, so I just called him at a distance.
“Danny…. How is she now?”, I looked at all of them and one of them came forward. It was Danny.
“Thanks, uncle for everything. She is stable yet critical. I didn’t know how did this happen. Here is her file”, my heart was thumping against my chest very rapidly.
I took the file from his hand and opened it.
My hands trembled badly when I saw her photo pasted at the right corner of the admission form. Tears instantly flowed down from my eyes and I heard Dr. Elijah gasped behind me. He also saw the photo.
