Summer’s P.O.V. (Continued)

His phone started ringing after some time. He sighed and picked up the phone from the dashboard. “Yeah,” he said to the caller. “Everything is ready in the apartment, Alpha,” someone told him in a respectful tone. “Okay… leave the keys with the caretaker and thanks for your help, George,” Adam instructed that person, and he thanked him in the end.

“I guess it’s my time to leave now,” I whispered sadly, lowering my eyes. “I will come to meet you in a few days, Summer. I have some work there,” he informed me, and I nodded in understanding.

He then picked something out of his leather jacket packet. “Here… there is some cash in it and a credit card,” he gave me, and I looked at it with embarrassment. I decided to leave my family and the pack as I couldn’t stand the injustice against me, but Adam was the one who took responsibility when my own family didn’t try to do anything for me.

“You know that you don’t need to do this,” I whispered in embarrassment while lowering my eyes. “Then who else will take care of you, huh? You are my sister, Summer. Just take this, and don’t think too much,” he said in an annoying tone, thrusting the envelope in my hand.

“Let’s go… you have a long way to travel alone, and I don’t want you to travel late at night,” he said while starting the engine. I took a deep breath and looked outside the window. I was leaving my home, but I didn’t have any remorse. I will find my happiness soon. I was now going to live in the human world as Adam refused my rejection of the pack, but I didn’t want to stay here even for a day. I didn’t know what the future was holding for me, but I would find this soon.

One thing that I was sure about was that I don’t need a mate to dictate my life. I am my own person, and I will spend my life as I want to.

Nathan’s P.O.V.

“You don’t need to thank me, Alpha Drake. This is the least I can do for you,” I replied to alpha Drake, the alpha of the Blood River Pack in a monotonous tone. I didn’t need to show any courtesy to anyone but he was my late father’s friend and he had earned this respect from everyone in our world through his hard work and determination.

“Summer is like a daughter to me, Drake. What happened to her is something that has shocked me too. As her alpha, I failed to protect her, and that is my biggest regret. Please take care of her. She is a simple girl but has high self-esteemed. She is hardworking and a quick learner. I assure you that you will never regret employing her,” he said to me in the same calm but firm tone.

“I understand, Alpha Drake. See you in the alpha meeting next month,” I replied to him and bid the farewell in the end. I put the phone on the table and rubbed my forehead. He failed as an Alpha, but wanted me to protect his pack member.

Ridiculous…….

“This is everything that I gathered about her,” Theo told me in a normal tone while putting a file in front of me.

I took the file and opened it. My heart skipped a beat when I saw her photo on the first page as soon as I opened the file. “She is beautiful,” Storm murmured in a loving tone that startled me. My wolf, Storm, was known for his ruthlessness and cruelty, yet he was behaving now like a teenage love-sick boy. We didn’t find our mate and I had already crossed the age of 27.

“She has finished her graduation and is waiting for her results. She is the second daughter of the head warrior of the Blood River Pack, and a warrior herself with remarkable fighting skills and a strategist, but she started restraining herself a few years back only to keep herself lower than her twin elder sister,” he briefed me in the same tone while I read the information in the file.

“She will join the operation department tomorrow as an intern for the next three months. She is still waiting for her degree, so this is an appropriate position for her for the time being,” he explained further and I just nodded in agreement while sighing aloud.

I didn’t know why, but I returned to the first page again, and unconsciously stroked her photo while looking at her beautiful, heart-shaped small face. His mate was nothing but a stupid a**hole who thought from his lower body.

“I agreed. She is not only beautiful but qualified enough to be a worthy mate of someone like her If the Moon Goddess blesses her with me, then I am willing to be her second chance mate,” he replied to me in the same tone, but there was determination in her voice. I was stunned by his statement this time.

“But you know that we can’t have a mate. We…. We just not meant for having a mate in this life span,” I replied to him bitterly, making him growl in disagreement. “You know very well, Storm, that we can’t have any weakness and she can be our biggest weakness. I have told you so many times that I will reject her as soon as I meet her. Having a mate is not my priority but keeping my pack stronger and safe is,” I continued in the same bitter tone.

“I dare you to do so, and see what I will do,” he threatened me in a cold tone, and before I could say anything to make him understand my concern once again, he retreated back and blocked me. I sighed helplessly while rubbing my temple. My wolf was stubborn but I knew his longing for his mate better than him. I just couldn’t let him do what he wanted the most.

“We have a meeting with Alpha Brooke in an hour. He is already near our borders,” Theo informed me and I nodded while closing her file. I put the file in my drawer and locked it. “What about the equipment that I asked you to purchase for our training faculty?” I asked him while standing up from the chair where I was sitting till now.

“The shipment will arrive by evening today,” he answered me while standing up from his chair too. I put my phone inside my pant pocket and walked towards the shelves to get some wine for me. “Did Alpha Brooke tell the reason why he wants this meeting?” I asked him flatly while pouring some wine for me and him.

“No, Nathan… and that’s why, I am a bit concerned about this meeting,” he answered me in a calm tone, but there was a hint of worry in his tone. Alpha Connor Brooke was our neighbour and had a strong pack. They were only one level beneath our pack. “What is it?” I asked Theo while giving him the glass.

“It’s about his daughter,” he replied to me and I raised my brows while drinking a mouthful of wine. “She is already twenty-five but still mate-less. I guess he wants to marry her off,” he said further, and I scoffed bitterly.

Alpha Brooke was one of those individuals who had a strong feeling of being self-righteous. They thought that the whole world revolved around them “You are worrying for nothing, Theo. I don’t need to bend myself to fulfil his wishes. He wants a marriage alliance with us, but I am not. For me, he was nothing but a crazy mutt, worse than a rogue,” I replied to him in a stern tone while sitting on my chair once again.

“Go and bring him here… I am not going to receive him,” I instructed him in a careless tone while making myself comfortable on the chair and drinking my glass of wine. He sighed and finished the glass before standing up. “I am doing a favour to you this time,” he said while pointing at me before walking away.

I sighed and closed my eyes while leaning my head backwards. Being powerful doesn’t mean that you will live a wonderful and peaceful life. It means that you will have more problems and troubles along the way.

I had so many enemies around me, and one of them was so cunning that he had kept himself well hidden for so many years. He attacked on me from time to time and always managed to run away unharmed. My parents had already died five years ago during a battle against rogues and vampires. I had no siblings and sometimes I thought that it was good that I had no one that could be counted as my weakness.

“Our mate will not be our weakness,” Storm grumbled once again, making me sigh in resignation. It was not like that I didn’t want a mate. Of course, like a normal werewolf, I also craved for my mate, but I couldn’t put her life in danger for my selfish purpose of finding happiness.

Unintentionally, I opened the drawer and took out the file once again. She was perfect in every way. Only if she could be mine…..

I immediately jerked my head when I realized what I was thinking. I closed the file immediately and almost threw it inside the drawer as if it were a dangerous weapon and would blow into my hands. I heard a knock on the door, making me look in the same direction.
