Hunter’s P.O.V.
This girl had some strength. I still felt sore where her head collided with my back. She was not short and due to some heels of her sandals she was a little taller and that was why her head hit right under my nape. I was sure that she didn’t recognize me because when I told her that she would be late, she didn’t say anything to me but screamed and then ran as if she had a marathon to win. One more thing that took my attention was the admiration in her eyes. I had seen so many emotions in other females’ eyes whoever came closer to me but this was the first time that I saw admiration in someone’s eyes. She was really something.
“Don’t you think she is weird?” Josh asked me while walking with me to my room and I raised my brows in confusion. “She didn’t even glance at me and her eyes were fixed on you as she was admiring your beauty”, he replied in a gloomy tone and I smiled in amusement. “You are mad because she didn’t look at you or she was admiring me?” I asked him in a teasing tone and he flickered his lips in disdain. Josh was a handsome man with a pleasant personality and girls drooled over him wherever he goes. This was the first time that a girl didn’t even notice him when he was right beside me.
I laughed a little while entering my room and he entered with me. We had an important meeting and I needed my assistant with me there. I didn’t know whether she would manage to handle this meeting with me. Everything which is yet to come in the future is unpredictable. So I just wish that she stays a little longer than my previous assistants. “We have to leave for the gulf in the evening”, suddenly Josh said in a serious tone when I was about to remove my suit jacket. I clicked my tongue while removing it and then put it down on the backrest of the chair.
“They are still creating problems for us?” I asked him in a cold tone this time and he sighed while sitting on the chair on the other side of the table. “Beck called in the morning that one of our shipments is missing and didn’t reach there this morning”, he informed me and I leaned back on the backrest. At the same time, I heard a knock on the door. I asked the person to come inside and she peeked inside. “Y… your coffee, Mr. Knight”, she said timidly still standing at the door. She had two mugs of coffee on a tray in her hands and she was standing straight as if someone had commanded her to be on alert.
“Do I need to come to you to get my coffee or you will come inside and give that to me?” I asked her in a cold tone when she didn’t move from her place for the next few seconds. She blinked and then breathed oh before coming inside. She closed the door behind her and to my surprise, she kicked the door to close it. She came straight to the table but I noticed that she was not steady on her feet. She was trembling. She put down the tray on the table between me and Josh. She then took a mug and put it down in front of me and then she took the other and put that down in front of Josh.
“I don’t like coffee in the morning, Ms. Hopkins”, Josh said in disdain and she immediately nodded. “I know, Mr. Knight. This is your usual tea”, she told her in a low and bit shaky voice but managed to keep her composure. He immediately looked down at his mug and then looked back at her. “Thanks”, he muttered and then took the mug from the table. She then took the tray from the table, bowed a little in front of me, and walked out of the room. “She is weird”, he muttered again and I sighed aloud helplessly. “What did you get on her?” I asked him while taking a sip of my black coffee. I was surprised when I found coffee perfect for my taste. “Her uncle is a chef and she assists him in his restaurant on weekends”, Josh told me something about her and I just nodded while taking another sip.
“At least I am going to have a perfect coffee in the morning now”, I said in a light tone and he scoffed again but kept on drinking his tea. Josh was very picky about his drinks and meals and it was hard for even a world-known chef to please him. So it was not a surprise for me if he was not happy with the taste of his tea. I opened my laptop and went through my emails first. Someone knocked on the door once again but I knew who this person was. I asked her to come inside and she once again entered the room with her tablet in her hands this time. She had a nervous expression on her face whenever she entered the room as if she was entering a wolf’s den every time.
She once again kicked the door to close behind her and I exhaled aloud this time. I guess she had a thing for kicking doors behind her because she did it twice in front of me and both time it was unconscious action. “This is your schedule for today, Mr. Knight”, she said to me in a formal tone and put down her tablet in front of me. “Did you get your training from Rose, Ms. Hopkins?” I asked her while going through my schedule for today. “Yes, Mr. Knight. I finished that yesterday before going back home”, she informed me in a formal tone. I didn’t respond to her and finished what I was doing.
“You have to go with me to the three meetings we have today and one of them is a lunch meeting. I hope you have already booked a table for this meeting?” I asked her while giving the tablet back to her. “Yes, Mr. Knight. This is already done and I also sent a confirmation mail to Mr. Zubin’s assistant”, she replied to me and I nodded. “Go and bring everything that I need in my first meeting”, I instructed her and she nodded before going out of the room. I looked at Josh and raised my brows when I saw him following her retreating back.
“You are taking a fancy to her?” I asked him and he immediately looked at me. “Didn’t you notice?” he asked me and I furrowed my brows once again. “What?” I asked him in confusion. “She never looked at you even for once. She was looking there (he pointed towards the wall in the other direction)… on that wall”, he told me and I shrank my eyes in confusion. “What was to notice in this, huh?” I asked him in a confused tone. Josh always had this trust issue and I guess Bethany was now his new target. “Her eyes were fixed on that wall like a trained assassin”, he said and I rolled my eyes.
“Do you want to see her real reaction?” I asked him and he immediately nodded. I just shook my head and then opened the security camera right outside my door. I tried to hold my laughter when I saw the footage after she exited the room the first time she gave us our drinks. She almost fell down on the floor but steadied herself with the help of the door frame. She patted her chest furiously for the first few seconds. She was looking so scared and relieved at the same time as if she had escaped from her death. She rolled her head so many times before regaining her composure. I looked at Josh and he was also trying to suppress his laughter by pursing his lips.
I then fast forward the clipping and stopped forwarding it when she appeared in front of the door again with her tablet. It seemed that she was giving herself a pep talk before knocking on the door because she took more than two minutes before knocking on the door. All that time, she was making so many gestures as if she was comforting herself that she could do this. I was amazed by her because she was all nervous, and scared, trembling in fear outside the door, and trying hard to stay firm and composed when she entered the room. She changed her attitude within a few seconds and it was really something that I didn’t expect from her.
“She is really something. I guess I need to dig deeper into her life”, Josh muttered and took a deep breath. I closed the security footage and then looked at him helplessly. “Let her work for some day but keep your eyes on her”, I instructed him once again. He nodded and then sighed aloud. “I am get going now. I have a lot of work to finish”, he muttered and then walked towards the door. I just shook my head and then looked back at the laptop screen once again. “O yeah… call Benjamin… he has something to tell you”, he stopped near the door while telling me. “Okay… I will call him”, I told him without looking at him and opened a mail to answer it. “Also… for gulf…. Ask your PA to clear your schedule for the next two days”, he once again spoke before opening the door and I just nodded without looking at him.
I stopped typing as soon as he closed the door behind him. I stared at the screen blankly for a while. I knew what Benjamin wanted to tell me but I didn’t want to hear anything now. I had enough of everything and I didn’t give a damn if more problems add up on my plate. I took a deep breath when I heard a knock on the door again. I asked her to come inside and looked in her direction. Once again she unconsciously kicked closed the door behind her and came to the table with some files in her hand. She put them down on the table and after removing the tablet from the top of them. “Here is the proposal that we have prepared for our new project with Allure”, she took one file from them and put it down in front of me.
I was about to take the file when she suddenly stopped me. “Wait”, she immediately put her hand on mine and then took the mug from the table. I raised my brows at her but she removed her hand from my hand and then walked towards the shelf on the other side of the room. She put that mug there and then walked back towards the table. “What?” she asked me in confusion and I just stared at her. She scratched the back of her neck while looking at me in confusion. She then looked at the file in front of me and then at me again. I didn’t say anything nor did I change my expression but followed her all movements. “Did I do something wrong?” she asked me cautiously and I sighed internally. Either she was so naïve or she was so cunning.
