Chapter 5: The Preparation

Chan replaced his neat clothes with stylish casual clothes. He wore jeans and sneakers from famous brands. He replaced his watch with a luxury watch. He changed his hairstyle and wore sunglasses with bright blue lenses to cover his face. A cap adorned his head.

Chan opened a browser on his laptop and searched for a 24-hour co-working space site located in the same building with the same elevator area as Gemilang Gelora Company. The building that was occupied by Gemilang Gelora Company had a fairly high level of security.

First, when we get out of the car, visitors were required to go through a body scanning device with a security officer on guard and check the contents of the bag. After entering the lobby, visitors who did not have access were required to submit their identity card, informed what floor they need to go and with who they would meet with, then the receptionist would take a picture of our faces.

Once we arrived on the destination floor, each office was still locked by a different access card that only employees from a certain company on that floor had. Every corner of the public corridor area per floor was monitored by a building surveillance camera. While in the office area, there ware surveillance cameras installed by office management.

To penetrate another floor by using the emergency stairs was rather difficult. Emergency stairs were equipped with fire-resistant doors that could only be opened from one side. Once we were inside the emergency staircase area, when the door was closed, the door was automatically locked tightly and couldn’t be reopened. On the 29th floor, there was a co-working space that was rented out to small companies that were ready to share office areas with other companies. Coworking space had a free area, a special seating area, and a closed office area for rent.

Chan checked the availability of space in the coworking space and booked 2 dedicated work stations there with Andrew Kurniawan's credit card. Perfect. This was what he needed.

Immediately after finishing renting a dedicated work station there, Chan immediately sent his designs to digital printing via e-mail to make business cards, employee identity cards, several catalogs of products and services offered by the company, as well as company profile booklets. Chan also ordered a roll of a banner to be placed as an area marker for his company. All were paid directly online by Chan.

The next action was to take his package at a digital printing shop and take access cards to open the coworking space area on the 29th floor and access cards to open the elevator area barrier. Chan still had some free time so he did everything quickly. After taking all the equipment, Chan went to the 29th floor smoothly.

He then put the banner in front of the door, and then went home. On the banner that was posted, it said DEFENSE, Inc., IT Security Company. When he returned, Chan noticed the number and position of surveillance cameras in the coworking space and public area on the 29th floor. Then, he slowly slipped into the emergency stairs and walked slowly down the stairs to the ground floor.

The emergency staircase area was very soundproof and free of people passing by. As long as Chan descended the emergency stairs, he did not meet anyone. From this experience, Chan learned that even though the emergency exit was quite heavy, it turned out that the lock could be prevented by a door booster. Because Chan's trained physique, down 29 floors was a light job for Chan. He didn't sweat at all when he arrived on the ground floor. Chan carefully opened the emergency door and covered his hand with a tissue so that his fingerprints did not fall behind the door handle.

Chan smiled when he found himself out in an area not far from a famous coffee shop in the area. Casually, Chan mingled with the people around, joined in the queue to buy coffee, and returned to the reception desk to exchange ID cards.

The initial preparations were done. Chan glanced at his watch, by now his team would have arrived. Maybe they were still unpacking their suitcases and sleeping at rest. Chan decided not to disturb his team as he promised Andrew.

Because there was still time, Chan decided to spend time in the fitness and swimming area. He always trained his body to stay in shape. Chan practiced some of the martial arts movements he had learned to protect himself so that his muscles would not stiffen on the edge of the pool.
