Chapter 7: The Dungeon

“You are Jack Morde?" Violet almost choked with those words. “I believe we missed that part of the social etiquette before, right?" he asked with a smile. “That wasn't very gentleman of me, I have to admit." How was that even possible? How could her mate be the man she had to kill? “So, I do have a lot of questions for you, and I really am confused and frustrated at the moment, so I can't promise to be a very nice guy." Jack continued, as Violet tried to put the pieces together inside her head. How could she be reasonable with all that happening in her life? That kiss was still pretty vivid and real inside her mind. And looking at him in front of her, knowing who he was, turned everything into a bigger mess than it already was. Could Arden know that? No, that wasn't possible at all. People couldn't know that in advance. So how could she be so unlucky? That force she was feeling, compelling her to that man in front of her was intense and powerful. “What intrigued me the most was the fact that we found a very nice dagger with you. I don't know how you managed to hide that inside that little dress of yours, but I must applaud you for that. It was very clever." he continued, walking in circles inside the dungeon. They were left alone there, probably an order from him. Violet widened her eyes in shock. Did they take her dagger? How did they find that? She tried her best to hide it. How did they take it from underneath her dress? “How did you get that out of my dress?" Violet asked incredulous. Jack looked a little offended, but answered her promptly. “I didn't touch you while you were unconscious, if that's what you're asking. I asked one of the women to search you up. Now… My sorceress said that the dagger was enchanted. Do you mind answering me why?" Violet stayed muted. She couldn't say a word. She could probably give something up without meaning to, since she was extremely angry at him and that whole situation. She failed the mission too quickly. Jack sighed realizing she wouldn't answer him easily. He took a few steps forward, getting a little bit closer and squatted in front of her. “You don't really seem like the type of person that would give me the answer like that, right? Maybe I should give you some time to think. You know… Consider your options." “What will you do to me if I don't say anything? Kill me?" He got up on his feet again and looked at her. “Not for now, no. I'm all in favor to give the benefit of the doubt to people. So you can stay here for a few hours to think about what you want to tell me." And with that, he turned his back to Violet and left the room, leaving her in a dark and cold space by herself again. Those wore the worst hours she had ever experienced in her entire life. She slept for a few hours, although her body seemed very much awake the whole time. It was a sleep full of nightmares, which made her wake up scared all the time. Later, she got hungry and thirsty, and she couldn't believe when someone opened the door and gave her a tray with some food and water. She didn't imagine that Jack was the type of people that would treat his prisoners well. It didn't match his reputation at all. She had always heard that he was a very bad man, so it was actually weird to see that he allowed something like that to happen. Maybe he wanted her alive to answer his questions. “You wish!" Violet murmured to herself. The silence in her cell was making her insane. She was trying her best not to think about the fact that Jack Morde, the leader of the Rebels, was her mate. And she had kissed him. But once she allowed her mind to go back to that moment, she analyzed the scene for the first time. The kiss was incredibly and unexpectedly perfect. She didn't know someone could feel those sort of feelings at once, just because of another person. Was that what all mates felt? If it was something so good, why was it forbidden? Thinking back, Jack looked kind of confused when she ran away from him. It was kind of stupid actually, the way she behaved. Now, thinking of it, she had never really heard of how the people from her pack were able to go through that. Were they able to ignore that feeling? Violet couldn't stop thinking about that. Now, more than ever, she wanted to go back home. If she stayed away from him, it should be really easy. The hardest part was ignoring his presence. When he was around, her whole body was compelled to him, like they were made to stay side by side. Even closer. Like they were a missing piece of each other somehow. That didn't make sense to her though. She had to think of a way to escape. She could pretty much imagine that Arden would take a while to send someone after her. What did he say? “We will figure something out." That didn't sound very reassuring indeed, now that she thought of it. So she had to find some courage to come up with something good. Seducing Jack was out of the table. Violet couldn't trust herself for that mission. So she had to wait for a chance to escape. Maybe when someone came to give her some food. But it should be hard to do it without her hands and legs free. What if she used her inner wolf? She could break free if she shifted to her wolf form and destroyed the door of her cell. Nobody would be able to stop her. To hell with the precaution to keep the reputation of the Diamond Pack intact. She just wanted to go home. But when she tried to concentrate to summon her energy to transform, she felt something weird. She couldn't sense anything. She couldn't feel her wolf self inside of her, like she always had. It was like it was numb somehow. “What the hell…?" she thought. Wasn't she a werewolf anymore?
