Without taking his eyes from mine, Declan handed his champagne glass to the gentleman standing next to him, approached the stairwell, and extended his hand to me as everyone watched. Unable to believe what was happening, I descended the stairs and took his hand. He smiled as he tucked my hand into his arm as if he had been waiting for me all along.
