Everything had come to this one point in time. Everything.
Seraphine extended her hands to the glowing gem. It was floating on top of an altar full of magical symbols. The tomb she was in was thousands of feet underground. There was no light and yet Seraphine could see everything inside the tomb. Including the bodies of several priests that she had just murdered in cold blood.
Their blood pooled and smeared the stone floors and walls. Their eyes were opened but empty as they lay unmoved.
The same blood covered Seraphine's hands. She even had blood splatters on her face and neck.
Her fingers tingled in anticipation.
"The last sacred gem. The gem of existence." Her throat bobbed at the sight of the glowing yellow gem.
This was the reason she was made. The reason she existed.
Some believe the world was created by a holy being. A being they worshipped and feared. Some believe the world just existed as it was, through sheer coincidence. But the truth was the world was held by several pilar elements. And the embodiment of these elements were five sacred gems.
There was the gem of light. A bright white gem the size of an ostrich egg. Seraphine found it on the northern continent. Where the sun only grazed the land a few times in a month and the air was freezing cold. She destroyed the frozen gem by throwing it into an ice stone.
There was the gem of nature. A green gem the size of an apple. It was also called the Green Apple. And there was the gem of life. A purple gem that created lullabies when put underneath the moonlight. There was also the gem of darkness. An obsidian gem the size of a rock. Seraphine found them in the vault of Voltaire Palace. But the king managed to trap her into solitude for centuries.
Lucky for her, an ambitious duke set her out centuries later. In return, she cursed the Voltaire royal descendant for the Duke to take over.
She was reunited with the rest of the gems near the City of Jewels. But a deal with a pretty wolverine made her lose the gems. They scattered throughout the world.
No matter, she thought then. She had time. Time to hunt and destroy the gems no matter where they were hidden. She had time to destroy the world.
So she found the gem of nature in the stomach of a Wraith in the Kumbai Desert. She destroyed the gem on the spot.
Then she found the gem of life on the neck of a princess. She crushed the gem –along with the princess, with an impressively huge chandelier.
I mean, it's their own fault for putting such a heavy and big chandelier on top of their heads in the first place!
For the gem of darkness, she found it inside the treasure trove of a dead pirate on the bottom of the ocean. She crushed the gem by manipulating the water pressure around it.
Finally, she heard tales of a shining gem in the depth of a tomb. And there she was. Standing in front of the yellow gem.
Centuries of hunting and plotting had her to this moment. She had murdered, schemed, cursed, and even let demons descended on the earth. She had failed, been trapped by humans, fooled by a wolf, and hated by all beings.
She was a powerful dark witch. And from the very moment of her existence, she had always hated the world. Hated the hypocrisy it always offered.
She was hell-bent on destroying the world.
Why, you ask?
Because she had known nothing other than that pure and raw hatred. It was her purpose. If she did not destroy the world, she would be meaningless.
So, she took the gem in her palms. The warmth she felt from the gem was astonishing. The light it gave spread to her veins.
"Just one more and everything will cease to exist." Her eyes had turned watery as she stared at the very thing which would realize her dream. Yes, she had dreamed of this moment. The moment she would finally destroy everything. The moment her purpose to exist would be fulfilled.
She could not help to smile broadly. "It would be glorious. Glorious!"
She twirled the gem in her hand, observing the flawless jewel. Then she let the gem fall to the stone floor. It thumped and rolled for a while. Seraphine put one foot on top of the gem.
She breathed the air. The refreshing and sweet air just one second before the world would be destroyed.
Then she stepped the gem, putting all of her weight on one foot.
In an instant, the gem shone like never before. Light exploded from the gem and filled the whole room. It even blinded Seraphine.
The light went on and on to no end. Seraphine had to cover her eyes since the light started to burn her eyes. She closed her eyes tightly.
Then she felt as though the floor had become non-existent. She heard nothing and could feel nothing around her.
She laughed victoriously inside. "Yes! Yes! World destruction is done! Ha Ha! It's happening!" She was ecstatic that the world she so hated so much would come to an end.
Oh, she did not care what would be become of her when the world is destroyed. She just knew she needed to burn the world to cinders.
And she had done so!
At least...
...that was what she thought.
She finally opened her eyes. Her eyes still needed to adjust to the light, but it was far more acceptable than the blinding light before. When her eyes had settled, she saw... a girl in front of her.
She blinked.
What...
Seraphine furrowed her brows and she saw that the girl in front of her did the same. She blinked again. Then she realized that she was standing in front of a mirror. An old vintage mirror painted in white.
The...
As the Dark Witch, she was used to wearing dark clothes. But the girl reflected in the mirror was wearing a white flowing dress. The sleeves were decorated with golden vine patterns and the neckline was an open-shoulder. The bodice was also decorated with the same vine patterns. And the skirt looked like it was made by millions of tule.
Her jaw dropped.
Hell...
It was a wedding dress!
