Reflecting

Layla sighed as she fidgeted with the edges of her skirt. She scoffed as she turned, looking herself over in the full length mirror in her huge bathroom. This would be her first day at the office, as Axel’s personal assistant. For the special occasion, Lacey dressed her in a white and gray Tartan skirt that stopped mid thigh, then flared out in pleats. Her top was a simple gray sweater that stopped just below her midriff, hanging lower in the back. To complete the ensemble, Lacey added gray stockings and gray thigh high leather boots that stopped just at the hem of her skirt. “Stop fidgeting, you look fine, ”Lacey scowled as she styled Layla’s hair. She had flat ironed the longer pieces, then fluffed the top to give it just enough height ,and finished with piecy bangs. “I look like an old lady going to a rock concert,” she pouted. “Layla ,you won’t do,” Lacey giggled, as she finished her makeup. Light foundation was all Layla needed, with her near perfect complexion. Lacey finished the look off with smoky black eyeshadow, and nude lipstick. “There, perfect,” she smiled, as she stepped back to admire her handiwork. “If you say so,” Layla grumbled ,”But I’m not so sure what Axel will think when he sees me in this skirt. “Oh, that reminds me,” Lacey handed her a pair of yoga shorts, ”He can’t say anything if there isn’t anything to see,” she winked. ”The sexy black underwear is all for him,” “Haay,” Layla thought Lacey had gone mad. “Just you wait,” she chuckled, not giving Layla any other clues to go on. Lacey herself had dressed in a denim shirt-dress that hung to her knees, with a black belt and black thigh high boots. Her Blonde hair was slicked back in a professional ponytail, and her makeup was lightly done, unlike Layla, who felt like a clown. Makeup had never been her thing ,but living with Lacey, she couldn’t escape it anymore. Lacey occasionally worked at the law firm as well ,helping out with the billing, and whatever Alex needed. Layla got the impression, however, that Alex needed her for more than just his assistant, which led her to wonder what the hell she was actually getting herself into. The “Boys ”had gone ahead of them, saying they had an early meeting with an important client. Jax would drive the girls ,and stay as their personal bodyguard .Layla and Lacey tried to convince him they would be fine, but Jax wouldn’t hear of leaving his fela. When asked about his mate, Jax informed them she was helping get the pack school ready for the new year. Fall had already arrived, and everyone in the Wildwood Territory scurried around to get the kids prepared for the new year  .Axel had given Layla a tour of their little village the second day of their return. Since she had barely left the Pack House in the time she lived there ,Layla was excited to see her new domain. “C’mon, Layla,” Lacey yelled ,”We’re going to be late,” She scurried down to the stairs, out the front door and to the white suv, where Jax was patiently waiting. The two young women climbed in the back ,with Jax pulling out after they buckled themselves in. “Jax,” Lacey whined ,”Can you please stop and get us some coffee on the way?"  she pouted her lip to emphasize her need. “Ok,” he groaned ,”But don’t blame me if two certain wolves chew your heads off for being late.” The two of them giggled in the backseat, thinking of the sour look on their mate’s faces when they finally made it to work. “We got this Jax,” Lacey said with a big smile ,”You know I have Alex eating out of the palm of my hand, and Layla makes Axel so crazy..” “That’s what I’m afraid of,” he grumbled .”If he doesn’t know where she is 24/7" The phone rang just as he spoke those words .Jax pushed the button on the steering wheel, answering the call. “Hey boss,” “Where the hell are you guys,” Layla heard Axel’s alpha voice booming through the car speakers. “We’re on our way,” Jax answered, looking at Layla in the rearview mirror. “I’m here, Axel,” she piped up. “Good, I was beginning to wonder…” “It took Lacey a while to get me ready,” she huffed. Axel could hear the pout in her voice. He straightened his tie ,trying not to think of all the things he could do to his little kitten in his private office. “Alright. I assume you guys are going to stop for coffee?” How did he know them so well?? “Yes,” Lacey replied, ”You guys need anything?” “Some cranberry muffins would be nice,”  “You got it Alpha, be there soon.” “Ok,” he replied ”Layla, you still there,” “Of course,” she rolled her eyes. “Love you, kitten,” “Love you too, Axel,” “Bye,” Lacey laughed, as Layla shook her head. Ever since she ran off to King Madden’s territory, Axel had been like an overprotective bear. If he turned around and did not see her, Axel would panic, throwing a fit, sending guards out to hunt for her. If she went out ,at least two guards were assigned to follow her wherever she went.  Although she promised Axel she would never run again ,his insecurities got the better of him. The two of them had a stronger mind-link than anyone else in the pack, with their Aztec magic, but this still didn’t settle her uptight alpha’s nerves. And if another male wolf got too close...She frowned just thinking about the last one who approached her. The poor guy just wanted to greet his new fela ,but ended up with a black eye and a few missing teeth .Layla loved Axel ,and appreciated all he did for her ,but this had gotten out of hand. Give him time Jax mind-linked her, He is scared to death of losing his mate I know Jax ,but nothing I do makes it better.  Let’s sneak off to Highlander Territory, Chalci finally chimed in I am in the mood for some delicious venison "No!!"Jax and Layla yelled simultaneously. That would definitely worsen the problem. Fine the big cat lowered her ears ,laying her head on her large paws You can go with Armour, Chalci Layla suggested "When we get back this evening, I will clear it with Aeobheann, and let the guards know." Excellent idea princess, she purred, but what about my breakfast? "s**t, I forgot about that, Jax?" "I will go to the market after I drop you two off" ,he sighed "Thank you," Layla and Chalci said in unison. Honestly Layla didn’t know where her jaguar put all that food. Even though Chalci weighed a good three hundred pounds ,if not more, when outside of Layla’s body, Layla still didn’t understand how her damn cat ate so much. "High metabolism," Chalci purred, "and Armour’s ,ah, affection.." "Thanks, Chalci, didn’t need to know that." Good thing Axel had taken Layla to the doctor. She had a panic attack when he got her there to the clinic, having never been to see a gynecologist before. They actually had to give her a sedative to calm her, and Layla threw a fit until a female agreed to examine her. Axel insisted on staying in the room. Everyone agreed this must be a cat thing ,since female wolves didn’t have such a problem most of the time. Layla was now on a type of birth control deemed safe for her particular DNA, and Axel was relieved the whole ordeal was over. This meant Chalci was also protected. With this being the first case of an animal completely separating from it’s human, the doctors at the pack clinic had to do some fast research, but in the end found a viable solution that would make everyone happy. Layla was too young to be a mother. She told Axel she wasn’t ready, and he agreed. He could wait a few years, and let his mate enjoy the rest of her teenage years before starting a family ,but Armour and Chalci, they didn’t care ,thus the urgency to prevent a pregnancy that no one would have any idea how to handle.
