Nov 1, 2021, Asylum Pride was located 5 km away from the city. The dark night's sweet silence broke when the wolves began howling. " Doctor, Vidhya is refusing to leave by tomorrow. Could you talk to her ? " (*Yawns and stretches *) "Can't you handle these things by yourself ? ", doctor Jayakumar sighed due to the exhaustive day and walked towards the ward. " Sorry doctor, we tried but she's terribly broken ", said the chief nurse Latha and opened the steel gate. The first thing my eyes noticed was the red eyes of Vidhya, with no hope or will to live, " Why is our Vidhyas's eyes red ? Latha said that you were refusing to go. Is that true ?" She nodded. " Why ? You are completely alright Vidhya. ", asked the doctor with disappointment. " My husband admitted me here because he wants to get rid of me. The last thing I remember was my head being smashed against the kitchen wall. I came to know I was in a asylum when the nurse told me. He must have successfully applied for a divorce and married another woman. ", her voice was mixed with her groans. " I don't...I don't want to there again ", her eye dams were filled with tears. " Yeah. Latha told me everything. But staying here is not the solution. You need to-" Her two watering dams started flooding with tears. She joined her two hands and began pleading," Please doctor I beg of you. Please let me stay here for a few months. I consider this as my home. No one has ever been this affectionate to me than my parents. I have no place to go. I want to stay here for a while. I beg of- " " Okay ! Okay ! You need to get out of this place once you find a place to go. " " Yes, Doctor. I promise ", the smile deep inside her heart reflected on her face. " Good. Everyone has their own reasons to be here and you are not the only one here. Now wipe your tears and sleep. God will definitely give a meaning to your meaningless life", we locked the ward up and came out. " Thanks for the help doctor. You may leave now, I'll take care of the rest ", said our chief nurse. " Nope. I feel like I want to stay here for a while. Did you sedate the new patient Raj ? "(*hear two voices*). " Yes Doctor. He was sure a wild and aggressive one. So we gave him some mild sleeping dose. I think he will gradually get along. He wa-" " Sshhh..", Doctor paused me and carefully followed two oscillating voices inside a cell. He observed Jaanu(Janaki) curiously listening to the tale narrated by her companion, Mohini. " The ferocious dragon chased the Prince and spit flame over him. But the brave prince dodged everything and.....and...." " And ? " " and he dashed towards the dragon and slashed the dragon's head in a split of a second. " " Then ! " " Then the prince pushed the dragon's body into the volcano and rushed towards the castle. There he heard the voice of Princess crying, " Is somebody out there please help ! ". The princess was locked behind an iron door. But the mighty prince broke the door and rescued the princess. " " Heeeaai ", Jaanu began clapping and cheering for the prince. " The prince cleared all the sorrow of the princess and they lived a happ.......Doctor ! ", Mohini yelled in shock. " Doctor ! Where ! Where ! ", Jaanu's eyes searched. " When did you come doctor ?", she asked after seeing me standing. " While your beloved prince dodging the flame. Mohini, Didn't I tell you not to narrate these kind of stories to her ? " " What can I do ? I used to narrate these tales to my grandchildren before coming to this place. I feel bored without talking to anyone ", said Mohini while twirling her hairs . " This isn't the first time doctor. She must have heard this story nearly 100 times ", Latha interrupted. " Is that true Jaanu ? ", asked the Doctor. " No, Latha lier is lying. This is the 97th time. " " Aren't you bored of the same story ? " " No, the prince saves the princess from misery. What's boring in this story ? ", Jaanu smiled. " Whatever, just go to the bed fast. " " Okei ! Okei ! ", they chuckled. " Doctor ! Wait ! Wait ! Where is it Where is it ", she slid her hands under her pillow pulled a couple of books. " Finished. Tomorrow bring me some other books ", Jaanu pushed the books between the iron bars. " Did you finish all the three ?" , Jayakumar grabbed them and handed it to Latha. " Mmm." " I'm planning to go for a vacation with my family. I will buy you some when I come back. " (Thinks for a while) "Mmm. Bring your daughter when you come back ", she giggled. Jayakumar nodded, " But if I see the late night chats again, I will lock in separate cell ". He warned and began walking. " I think I should leave now. Take care of the rest ", Jay folded his white coat. " The Rise and Fall of Ancient Egypt by Toby Wilkinson, Tirukkural by Thiruvalluvar, Vimana Aircraft of Ancient India and Atlantis by David Hatcher childress ", Latha read the titles of the books aloud. " What are you doin ? " " Is Jaanu really mentally-ill doctor ? She seems way too smart than a normal girl of her age. " " Yeah. 23-year old girl, smarter than an average adult. Isn't it an obvious reason to keep her inside the mental asylum ? ", he chuckled. " I'm serious doctor. She need to see the outside world. There is nothing wrong with her ". Jayakumar halted and glared into Latha's eyes. " I'm seeing Jaanu for the past nine years and I know exactly when to release her. So Will-You-Please mind your own business ? ", he exploded. Latha : Walks backwards on seeing his eyes. " I-I'm sorry Latha ", he began inhaling his lung full of air, held for 5 seconds and exhaled. "Look, I consider everyone inside this asylum as my own children. So trust me. I'm doing this for her own good ". He turned towards the cell and said, " The Janagi you see today isn't the real form of her. It took two years to calm her down and I carefully moulded her into what's she is today. " ** Someone footsteps ** " Did you hear that footsteps ? ", asked the doctor. " What are you saying doctor ? " " Someone's outside. Hey ! who's that ? Watchman ! Watchman !", the doctor yelled.
