I woke up to the buzzing sound of my alarm clock on my bedside table. I blinked my eyes owlishly, yawned and stretched my body. I got out of my bed, wore my bedroom slippers and was heading towards my bathroom when I heard my mom's voice from the living room. "Aubrey! You got a mail from Living spring University!" She yelled to me. I stopped in my tracks, widen my eyes. I raced out of my room and stormed down the stairs to the living room. "Take it easy young lady." i heard my dad tell me. I raced to my mom who was still holding the mail in her hands and she handed it to me. I stared at the mail in my hands while breathing heavily with mixed emotions. 'Should I open this or not? ' I thought to myself. "Well, what are you waiting for? open it and let see what it says." My mom said to me. I could tell from her voice that she was just as nervous as I was. "She is too scared to open it." My fifteen years old brother mocked me. "Come on Aubrey you will have to open it anyways so why hold onto it?." My mom tried to convince me. "Open it, honey." My dad said. I heaved a heavy sigh, closed my eyes. "Here goes nothing." I gulped and opened the letter. With shaky hands, I opened one eye to read through it. " Dear Miss Aubrey Jones, congratulations on your admission to Living spring University." I opened the other eye to read the letter clearly and I shrieked out of excitement. "Ahhhhhhh!!! I got in." I jumped happily. "Really? Congratulations sweetheart." My mom hugged me excitedly. My dad placed his coffee cup on the dinning table and rushed to my side to give me a tight hug as well. "I am so proud of you." Dad said to me. "Congratulations" Sam said to me. "Thank you." I giggled "I will prepare something to celebrate tonight." Mom said. "That's a good idea honey." Dad picked his briefcase. "But I have to go now. I will see you all tonight." He pecked Mom on her cheek, he came to me and pecked me on my forehead. "Congratulations again honey. I am so proud of you. "You said that earlier." I reminded him with a smile. "I know." He whispered then he left the house. I was too overwhelmed that I had forgotten about my shift at the cafe. "I have to go to the cafe." I informed Mom. "Okay sweetheart. I will also be heading out soon." She told me. I went to my room, picked my phone from the bedside table and I called Kate. Kate was my best friend from High school but she already moved to London with her parents but we still talk and FaceTime, it was as if she never left. She answered on the third ring. "Hello, Aubrey?" She answered. "I got in!!" I announced joyfully. " Wow! Congratulations. I am so happy for you " She said to me but sounded odd. "Are you happy?" I asked concerned. "Of course. I am so happy for you." She still sounded odd. "I mean are YOU happy? You don't sound your cheerful self. What's wrong?." I sat on my bean couch and checked my wall clock to see If i still had enough time before I head over to the cafe. "It's nothing really." she denied. "Kate, if I sounded the way you did just now and I said 'it's nothing ' would you have believed me?" I asked her. "Well....." She hesitated "Come on tell me but if you don't want to, it's fine but I really do not like you being sad and from that voice? I know you are sad. "My parents are filing for divorce." She dropped the bomb. My eyes almost bulged out of their sockets. "Why would they do that?" I asked her. "They have been arguing a lot these days and I think my mom suspects dad of cheating." She said. "What do you think?" I asked her. "I really do not know what to believe Aubrey but I do not want they to divorce. I don't want a broken home." she said to me in a sad tone. "Have you tried speaking to either of them?" "Not really." "I think you should." I suggested to her "Will do. Hey let's drop that. How is the celebration for your admission going to be like?" "We are having a family dinner tonight." I said to her excited. "That's cool." "I know right." I was all cheeky "And I hope you find a boyfriend this time." She laughs. "Thanks for the reminder." I rolled my eyes and looked up at the wall clock. I have to go. I am almost late for my shift at the cafe." "Laters then?" She asked. "Yeah. Laters. Bye." I dropped the phone on my bed and ran to the bathroom. ********* The D day came. I woke up earlier than usual to get ready for University. I had packed my bag and all essentials I would need. It was really my first time living in a dorm but It won't be hard for me to adjust to the new life After contemplating on what to wear, I decided to wear a long sleeved bodycon blouse and wore a thin strap, above the knee dress matched it with a sandal wedge. I was standing in front of a mirror, packed my shoulder length caramel coloured hair into a bun. Then my phone rang "Hey, Kate." "Getting ready?" "Yes ma'am." "Snap a picture of yourself, full length and send it to me asap." she commanded "Why?" "Just do it." she snaps. "Fine. Just hold on" I surrendered. I placed my phone on a big book and took a picture from an angle that would capture full length and I sent the picture to her by w******p. "Okay?" I asked "Well, I can say you are improving" "Did I make you proud, mommy?" I joked. Kate hated my mode of dressing and tried so hard to make me change. "Yeah. Now, off you go. Oh, I heard something" "What did you hear?" "I heard bumping into a guy on your first day in college blooms a long lasting relationship." If she was with me, she would be grinning like a fool after saying that. "Where did you even hear that from?" I shook my head and smiled. "From somewhere. I will leave you now but you have to gist me later okay?" "Aye Aye ma'am." I saluted even though she couldn't see me. "Good, Bye." "Bye." I hanged up and resumed what I was doing. "Aubrey! you have to be down in five minutes else I will leave without you." My mom yelled. "Coming!" I yelled back. I packed my ' used the most ' items in my cross bag. I took a look at myself in the mirror. "I am a spec." I winked and bolted out of my room. I got to the living room to see my brother already leaving for school and Dad had already gone to work. "Morning." I said to my Mom who was busy arranging files into a folder. She worked as a chief secretary to a multi billionaire CEO. Dad was an international Lawyer, he manages his own small Law firm. I drank my milk and ate a toast with bacon. "Are you ready?" Mom asked still going through the files. "Yep." I pooped the ' p '. I packed my plates to the sink, washed them and placed them back to the plate rack. "Okay. Let's go " My mom announced. We left the house and entered into Mom's Lexus E350 model. It's a car she was given by the company she worked for. She roamed the engine to life and hit the road. "Mom, you really don't have to go with me, just drop me at the school's entrance." I tried to convince her. "No, it's a long drive and you won't be coming home for some time" She said to me "But I am an adult and you have your job." I tried harder. "I told them I would be late. I am only seeing you off, okay?" All I could do was to just give up because there is no stopping her. ******** "You are welcome to Living spring University Ms Jones. Here is your stamped letter" The faculty Dean welcomed me. "Thank you sir." I said to her. When I got to the dorm, I saw a girl lying on a bed typing away on her phone. She stopped what she was doing and came to me. She had flawless, glowing light skin. Wow! she was an epitome of beauty. She had long blonde hair that reached her mid back, ocean blue eyes and a Cupid heart shaped lips that compliments her round shaped head. "Hi, are you the new roommate?" she smiled. "I think so." I smiled back. "Sarah" She extended her hands to shake mine. "Erm..... Aubrey. This is my Mom." I looked to my Mom. "Mrs Jones." "It's a pleasure." she shook my Mom's hand. "Same here dear." she smiled too. "I will leave you now." Mom said "Okay. I will keep in touch." "Okay honey. I will call you too." She hugs me. "Be a good girl and remember the daughter of whom you are." " I will, Mom. Just leave already." "Bye Sarah, it was nice meeting you." "Bye." Sarah replied. Mom left and I missed her immediately but education is important too. "You seem to be a mommy's girl." Sarah chuckles. "I didn't want to." i shook my head. "Very funny." She laughed. She helped me get settled in. After unpacking for hours, we were both tired. "Do you want to go grab a bite at the school's cafeteria?" "How'd you know I was hungry?" I feign surprised. "Let's go then?." "Yeah but I need to freshen up." I told her "That's true." She agreed. "I will wait for you then. After taking a shower, I got dressed in a casual, short that reached mid thigh and a baggy Jersey. I matched it with a pair of comfy sandals. I let my hair down We left the dorm, walking down to the cafeteria, Sarah showed me some places that were important for me to know and I also got to see how beautiful the school was, from the Architect's masterpiece they called a building to the beautiful flowers and trees. I was so engrossed in the beautiful scenery that I bumped into a hard rock. But who would wear a shirt and an expensive cologne for a rock? Then I looked up to see that i bumped into a living rock. I took a step back to have a better look and I saw i bumped into a Greek god because calling him a ' man ' was an understatement. "I suggest you watch where you walk next time." He said to me in a husky but irritated voice. His minty breath went through my nose to my brain and I could feel it resetting my brain. "Erm erm.... S s sorry." I stuttered. I got mesmerized by his chocolate brown eyes, they looked dark and shallow but my heart wouldn't stop thumping. I remembered Kate words "I heard bumping into a guy on your first day in college blooms a long lasting relationship." 'Did I allow Kate's words get to me?' I thought to myself. "Will you move out of my way or do I have to?" His eyes got even darker. "Erm..... Sorry." I moved out of his way and he left. I stood there looking at his restricting figure. I have to admit he has a fine ass and his walking style was to die for. "I really hope you watch where walk next time, especially around him." her voice was coated with terror. "Why?" I was confused "He is not someone you would want to bump into." "What is it about him?" I asked "Let's go eat. I will tell you everything later. She pulled me by my hands and I looked back to see if I could still catch a glimpse but he was gone. 'What is it about him?' 'Why was I like that around him?' These were my questions.
