CHAPTER 1

Grace Preston Hospital, Los Angeles, California; "Caroline, you can go back now, just leave the documents that need to be signed. Then you can go home, I'll take it from here", I told my secretary who's been following me around all day, I almost laugh seeing the relieved looked on her face. "You gotta give her a raise bro, you've been slaving her out", I just remembered Winston Carter, my annoying best friend is with me right now. "Her salary is more than enough." I rolled my eyes walking fast to the administration office of GPH, one of the hospitals my family owned which is mine now for my parents already gave me all their assets so they can just go lazy around which on my mom's language ...long overdue honeymoon. Shudders...old people... How can they even use the word honeymoon when they are so old? "What are we doing here by the way?" Winston asked while winking at the random nurse who was passing by. "I never asked you to tag along." I entered the elevator and press the 6th floor where the offices at. "I have to be sir grumpy, if not you'll be ditching me and the boys again." He slapped my back laughing. "Well it's not my fault to ignore you guys, who are our genius idea is it to play a prank at my expense." I snorted. "Aw...come on it's a joke dude, don't be such onion skin." Winston snickered while clicking his tongue."Though I can still remember the looked on your face, it's hilarious." He laughs loudly that I just wanted to smack the heck out of him. "Yeah, it was funny," I said and can't help but laugh with him. It was when Winston and our two other friends Justin and Cole decided to play a joke or a prank on me. They thought it was funny to set a meeting place on a gay bar and the catch? I'm the only one who came and the pricks are actually on the bar just across the street laughing their asses off. s**t happened and a reporter captured the moment as I entered the place and it took lots of interviews and connections to eradicate the rumors. "Just watch out from now on asshole," I said smirking. "Is that a threat?" He raised his brow. "Is it? I'm not sure." I whistled as I get off the lift and walked my way to the door with the OIC tag hanging at the door. "Just do your best." Winston grins. I sometimes wonder if this dickhead is 28 years old and a president of a company because he acts like a kid most of the time. I shook my head before knocking once and opened the door without waiting for someone to open it. There are two persons inside the OIC, a middle-aged man who looks serious while talking to a woman in doctors' scrubs. They both looked at me when they heard the door open and close. "Levi, I've been waiting for you." The old man is my parent's close friend my Dad's best friend to be exact, uncle Freddie is the one managing this hospital until he retires which he'd been hinting that I have been ignoring, for I can't find anyone who can replace him yet. "I'm sorry uncle I've been too busy this past day, how have you been?" I asked. "Here...getting older, sit down sit down.'' He told us. See the hint? "Yo uncle Fred, you looked handsome as ever." Winston chirped in. "Oh! Winston, how are you lad?" He asked. "As you can see getting hotter every day Uncle F." He replied busy staring at the other Doctor in the room who awkwardly looking at us. "My goodness, I'm sorry Doctor Miles that would be it, thank you", Uncle Fred told the lady doctor who I notice giving me some kind of smile, which I just ignored. "So uncle, what is it you wanna tell me?" I asked sitting down on the couch on the receiving area of his office, Winston sit beside me while Uncle Fred sat across us. "Remember our hospital's project on creating medicines to fight cancer?" He asked grabbing a thick folder. "Yes, I remember." I nodded. "Well, I think we have a breakthrough, one of our pharmaceutical scientists and a prodigy of the medical world Doctor Alexis Kent has been working on it since you gave it a go, it's still in the process of several tests to find out the weakness of the medicine and more clinical trial before putting it on the market." Uncle Fred exclaimed excitedly. Preston Hospitals and pharmaceutical has been trying to develop medicines against cancer and so far the attempt has all failed so if this one is true then it's a breakthrough indeed. "I want to meet Doctor Kent then uncle to personally hear about this medicine," I said seriously while standing up. If what he is saying was true then it will be a huge thing in the future of his company and the world. "Of course, Alex is a very dedicated Doctor he's also the best heart surgeon but he chooses to stay in the lab." The fondness in Uncle Fred's voice is like he's talking about his son. "I guess he's just a loner uncle." Winston chirped in still staring at his phone. "Well yeah, he is." Uncle Fred chuckles. We reach the 5th floor where the laboratory is located. GPH lab is the best and most sophisticated in the country we made sure that if we want the best result we have to use the best equipment. Uncle Fred open the door and motioned us to get in without knocking, I raised my brow at him silently asking. Even this is my hospital I still respect my people's privacy. "We will be waiting forever if we will wait for someone to open the door." He chuckled. We entered a huge white room with different machines and chemicals inside, although the smell is not too much it can still make you a little dizzy for the mixture of different smells of medicine and chemicals are prominent in the air. I looked around but couldn't see anyone. "I don't think Doctor Kent is still here," I said. "He is here somewhere, he usually stays here more than he should be." Uncle Fred shook his head sighing. "I don't think it is a bad thing," I comment. "It is not but-.."He stopped mid-sentence when we heard a crash and grunts on the hind side of the lab. We all rush to where the sound came from and met a bundle of white crawling on the floor. I can see Winston from the corner of my eyes trying not to burst into laughter. "Alex! are you alright?" Uncle Fred is in between worried and amusement as he grabs the guy from the floor. "Doctor Jackson? Oh! I-I'm alright I tripped and I can't find my glasses", Replied timidly by I assumed is Doctor Kent. "You need to be careful son, we don't want you getting hurt alright?'' Uncle Fred picked up a pair of thick-ass glasses that can pass as a magnifying glass. I studied the infamous Doctor Kent who looked like a typical nerd, with unruly curly hair, a little skinny with maybe five foot ten height. "Can I help you, sir?" He asked without sparing me and Winston a look. "We're here about the medicine, this is Levi Preston the owner of our hospital, and his friend Winston, can we go to your office and discuss it further if it's convenient for you?" Doctor Kent stared at me without blinking making me very uncomfortable then glance at Winston who wink at him making the poor doctor frown. That's Winston ladies and gentlemen. Right now I'm very curious about this doctor if he is capable like what uncle Fred proudly told us. "Sure, follow me please." He walked on the only door you can see on the back and we were all greeted by stacks of papers everywhere, the table in the middle has three feet high messily piled, and the receiving area with couch and center table has papers too. Doctor Kent hastily grab the papers on the sofa almost tripping on his own feet. "I- I'm so sorry I don't have time to tidy up and I didn't know that s-someone will come here today, please take a sit... ah, anywhere?" He said between stutters and trying to tidy up that not helping as the papers just scattered more. "No problem Alex, where the heck is Sophia? She should be here organizing your stuff." I look at Uncle Fred wondering who the hell is Sophia now. "She's his secretary," he explained when he caught me looking. "W-well, maybe she went out and take a break," Doctor Kent said as he played with the hem of his shirt. This doctor is weird. "Tell her to go to my office when she gets back okay?" "Yes sir." "Sit down Alex, now tell Levi here what you've been doing," "Um alright." The man nods then rubbed his palm on the side of his scrub suit. He grabs a stack of paper on his table then rummage on the piles on the floor before sitting down in front of us making Winston can't stop a laugh which turns into a groan when I step on his foot. He took a deep breath and glance at uncle Fred who nod at him. "I called the medicine SYRES or system reconstruction simulation. (a/n from this part there will be things I just took from Google and will try to move away from medical terminology thingy, you can even bypass this boring part) As we all know we can't stop cancer forming or building up in someone's body for we all have a cancer cell it just not everyone has active cells, so medicine that we are trying to develop is we hope that can reverse the damage on the patients DNA, it can be used together with any designated and ongoing therapy unconventional, alternative or at any stage of the disease and to prevent relapses. It can be used by people who are undergoing any kind of medical therapy. And I want to say it is a Unique case of healing. During long research of cancer and monitoring of patients, it was concluded that each oncological patient unknowingly makes specific mistakes in way of living. A combination of these two factors is necessary for the creation and development of a malignant process. When we remove these two factors, the malignant process is stopped and destroyed. It does not have a suitable environment and conditions for growth and further development. The patient underwent therapy designated by doctors and use this med. Besides this patient, we do not know any other patient with so long and quality life with this diagnosis and scope of the damage. This system is very simple; it will relieve you from fear of cancer and educate people as we provide correct information not to make mistakes that cause cancer. Because cancer is a systemic disease. Anyone who gets cancer makes specific mistakes in lifestyle which creates an enabling environment, conditions for arising and developing the malignant process. Therefore, cancer treatment must be approached systematically. We don't know we have it for a long time that refers to the mycelium but once tumors begin to form and we can see them that refers to fungus. It is practice these days that we remove the tumor surgically, or apply radiation. To be more specific, it can remove conditions and the environment where cancer can not live without. In other words, this will teach the patient not to make mistakes that lead him to cancer while repairing damaged parts of the body. I found out that each oncological patient has increased blood glucose sometime before being diagnosed with cancer. This of course is not enough, because every diabetic should also be on the patient. For better understanding, you will find helpful an example. Imagine, there is no Garbage service in your city and It is cumulated for a long time. And I can say it is certainly a new revolutionary system and successful not only as a treatment but mostly as a cure and also as prevention." Silence developed all of us after the long explanation by Doctor Kent that in all honesty made my self-proclaimed intelligent brain dumb. "Wow! More than half of the s**t you said I'm not sure is on my vocabulary doc!" said Winston breaking the silence as uncle Fred chuckles making the doctor in front of us blush a crimson color. "In what stage you are in now? I asked after absorbing some of what I understood. "At the moment I can say that I am on the final stage already." "Tell me the percentage." "It is 88 % give or takes." "88? How long was it been started, doctor? If I'm not mistaken it's been three years yes? Don't you think you're working too slow?" I asked raising a brow. His forehead creased as he bite his lower lip shooting me a sharp look leaving the awkward doctor behind. "Look here sir, I'm not making canned foods or vitamin c tablets with a process not that complicated, we're talking about saving lives not putting life itself at risk, I'm not gonna put my worked in jeopardy just to finished your deadline sir, I'm not going to do that so if you think I'm working slow I can stop all this any time," Alexis spat too fast that almost leave him breathless. "I think Levi here doesn't mean something bad, Alex." Uncle Fred said calmly. I glared at the doctor in front of me watching him lower his eyes when he realized his outburst but the stubbornness on his eyes is still present as his fist clenched. "Alright, I'm giving you all the time you need just make sure it'll be perfect." He look up at me fast again giving me a are you f*****g kidding me look which I replied with a raise of the brow. I heard uncle Fred sigh beside me, he grab my arm and drag me up. "There's no such thing as perfect medicine son," he told me and he turn to Doctor Kent. "Alex, thank you son I think what you said is enough for now and I advise you to go home and rest you looked like you haven't slept for days." "I'll visit here regularly to monitor your development doctor Kent." I looked at him seriously and he glared back at me. This nerd of a doctor is something else, he can change in seconds. "Don't ever question Alex's credibility Levi, he is timid and shy and loves working alone but I'm telling you he's good at his job." Uncle Fred scolds me when we reached his office. "He's one heck of a nerd uncle," Winston laughs plopping on the couch. Maybe he's good but this project is something that my company's been spending too much I won't let that little doctor mess it up, I just won't. 88%? not bad. A winning smile appeared in my mouth as I leave the premises. Totally, not bad.
