A Beautiful Day

1811 Words
In a metropolitan city called Jakarta, that was known for its business and traffic jams, there lived a teenage girl, this year she would be 17 years old, in high school class 11, her name was Traumerei, or commonly called Troya. Troya had a rather thin but athletic build, with a height of 165 cm and a weight of 50 kgs. She was physically strong because she loved to ride her bike to school. Beside that, she actually loved to eat.  In one day she could eat up to five times. But maybe because of her penchant for commuting to school by bicycle and having to travel five kilos, all that food was used up as energy. And even though she looked tomboyish, Troya had a thick black hair along her back, and always tied her hair in a ponytail. About two years ago, Troya didn't like growing out her hair at all. She just looked like a little boy. It was a time when she still played with her childhood friend, Kai. *** YEARS BACK In this life, there were times when we could say it was the most beautiful and best time ever. In Troya's life, she knew that her most beautiful and could never be replaced was when she could still play with Kai, the boy next door, lived in the same cluster who's two years older than her. Troya had known Kai since childhood. Troya, who's a little pretentious at the age of seven years old, came to the park inside the cluster while riding her bicycle. She felt bored and lonely because she had to play alone in the house all the time, while at that time Mama had just given birth to a baby boy, Mikail, or commonly called Miki. On Sunday mornings, in the park there were only boys playing soccer, bicycles, skateboards, basketball or just watched them played. Troya was jealous, it was so much cool to be a boy, their games were so much fun.  So this little girl rode her bike into the park. Actually, she was confused about what to play. But then she saw a tall boy who looked much older than her, slightly tanned from sunburn, sharp nose and sharp eyes. The boy was wearing a baseball cap and looked the toughest of all the boys in this park. The boy was standing next to his bicycle and seemed to be watching a soccer game. Without thinking, Troya immediately approached the boy and challenged him. "Hey, you, if I can beat you in the bicycle race around this complex, you are willing to be my minion and do whatever I want!" She said out aloud. Of course the boy was dumbfounded because he was being bothered by a small child who appeared out of nowhere.  Troya did looked like a little boy at that time because of her short hair and she was wearing a boy-like clothes, shorts and a t-shirt with sneakers. Even though her skin was pale white, she still looked like a boy with this style of clothes. "Who is that kid, Kai? So arrogant!" said a boy who was stocky with dark skin. Kai, the boy's name, did not answer right away. He felt like he had seen this child before. Ah, of course, this housing complex wasn't very big, so he must have seen almost all the boys in the complex. "Accept my challenge or are you too cowardly?" shouted Troya again.  Hearing Troya's pretentious remark, several children immediately felt furious and wanted to kicked her right away. But Kai prevented. He walked toward her, his eyes still fixed on the little girl. After a while, Kai smiled, "Okay!"  Of course, Kai's words got a lot of protests from the other kids. But Kai immediately told them to shut up. After that, he continued his words again.  “But if you lose, you will comply with all my requests for a week, and … that Bakugan cards collection is mine! Agree?" He pointed out with his nose the Bakugan cards collection album that was in Troya's bicycle basket. Troya was surprised to hear the terms behind it. But indeed, without thinking, she accepted the challenge. As a result, of course we could already know who the winner was.  Troya lost by a very slight time difference. She had fallen and was injured, but at least she lost with pride that even the older and bigger children had sympathy for her. Troya also had to give up all of her bakugan card collections and would obey all Kai's requests.  But somehow, after this incident, Troya was accepted by all the boys in the compound. She was invited to play basketball and other games.  Until finally it was almost twelve o'clock at noon, they said goodbye to return to their homes and promised to play again in the afternoon before sunset. And of course, until that moment, the boys still thought that Troya was just a little boy like them who was smart and pretentious. Until the next day when it was school time and Troya appeared in front of them all.  She wore an elementary school uniform which was a red plaid skirt and a plain white shirt. Seeing Troya's appearance, simultaneously made all the boys screamed in surprise. But not with Kai, he already knew from the start. *** PRESENT DAY Troya was pedaling casually like any other day towards school. She left for school at six o'clock sharp. It only took her 15 until 20 minutes to arrive at school in time. School time began at 6.30 AM.  Troya hummed lightly as she rode her bicycle, through highways filled with cars and motorcycles that had nearly grazed or crashed her if only the rider wasn't skilled enough.  When riding a bicycle, Troya always listens to her ipod so that she could not hear any surrounding noises. The music's so loud, but it's proven to fight her drowsiness.  Suddenly, she saw blue sparkle near a billboard. She stopped right away to see it more clearly. A cold wind blowed softly brushing her face while she stood still watching the billboard.  But it's gone. After a short while, she decided that it's just her imagination and continued her riding to school. When she almost arrived at school, she ran into Liam Pratama, one of her best friends, who's riding a motorbike.  Usually Liam rode a bicycle too, Troya advised him that the boy should exercise more often, because his skin was much paler and very thin. Even Troya seemed to be able to knock him down with just one punch. Troya looked at Liam silently, from bottom to top with slightly narrowed eyes, as a form of protest that Liam broke his own promise to ride a bicycle to school.  The two of them met right in the parking lot on the left side of the school area. Troya got off her bike and locked it. Liam knew very well those eyes. But he pretended not to see and got off his motorbike then took off the helmet he's wearing. Liam's height was 179 cm, and 67 kilos in weight, pale skinned because he's always indoors and hated sports. He wore thick minus glasses and hair with bangs that were quite long, almost covering his eyes. Liam was quite cute, but not the typical popular boy at school. And it's just so happen that Liam didn't like being popular. He's too shy to be in the spotlight. Opposite from him, Troya and Mayang loooved to be in the spotlight. Ah, we haven't told you about Tatiana Mayang. But of course Mayang must have been in the classroom even before the two of them arrived.  Nope. Mayang was not another type of geek. In fact, Mayang was the type of girl who had the potential to become very popular, because she was gifted with a beauty that made all the boys unabled to turn away from her. Mayang's height was 170 cm, and weight 55 kilos. Her skin was fair, unlike Troya, which was now brown due to frequent sunburn. Her face had a mixture of Arab-Pakistani-Chinese-Dutch-Malay, but maybe we would immediately say that she was of Arab descent. And it also happened that Mayang had a career as a model.  She won the modeling contest when she was in junior high in a teen magazine, as readers' favorite. Having a career in this modeling field, Mayang had an excuse to ditch school assignments.  So you could say that for school matters, Mayang was not much different from Troya, which had difficulty receiving school lessons. But Mayang loved sports, even she was very good at playing basketball and joining the basketball team at school.  So actually, modeling was just a side job. In fact, she loved coming to school. Because only at school she didn't get interference from the four siblings who were super ignorant. And only at school, she felt very free to be a teenager, even though her academic score only stucked at C. "I want to show you and Mayang something. You ride your bike, so you can go to my house first. But I couldn't possibly let Mayang walk to my house, so I bring my motorbike today," said Liam, putting his helmet into the trunk of his new Vespa. Troya looked at Liam straight into his eyes. She could tell when someone was telling the truth or not. And apparently, that's not the only gifts she had. "Okay!" replied Troya. She shrugged her shoulder deciding to accept it. So they walked together towards the third floor of the school building, where class 11 IPA B was located. IPA meant natural science class.  Whether coincidence or not, the two of them had always been in the same class since the tenth grade. Only Mayang had a different class, she took social studies class.  When they set foot on the third floor, they came across several boys who were busy joking in the classroom corridors that they didn't pay attention to their surroundings. Troya saw something before they passed through the boys.  Meanwhile, Liam was still busy looking for something from his leather sling bag.  A boy, who seemed to be the centre of the crowd, was too excited to share his experience from yesterday futsal competition with the team from another school.  He was so excited, his arms stretched out wide, his legs kicked into the air until his body turned to show his friend the final shot he had during yesterday's match. Because of that action, the boy's leg hit Liam quite hard in the face.  Liam fell to the floor and his nose bleeding. Some students screamed when they saw the incident. In an instant, the area was surrounded by lots of curious students to see it more clearly.[]
