start of summer

The bell rang. I opened the door and let my students out, waving them goodbye, since it was the start of summer vacation. I’m sure going to miss those little rascals! Miss Peters walked over to me, as she gave me a card. I looked at her in wonder as I tilted my head. She smiled, seeing my expression. “As a thank you for your help, you have been a great intern. One day you will make an amazing teacher, I’m sure.” I took her card as my smile grew bigger. “Thank you, miss Peters.” I said as I placed the card in my backpack. “Now, go on, celebrate the beginning of the summer with your friends. We’ll see each other soon.” she hummed as she walked back to her desk. I giggled, as I put my backpack on and left the classroom, wishing her a nice vacation. Making my way out, walking down the hallway, outside the doors, and into the sunshine. “Hey Miss Denali!” I heard someone yell as I turned, seeing Alex walk towards me. “Hey goof.” I grinned, as he met me and we started walking together towards the parking lot. “So, how is the hottest teacher in the community doing?” He grinned at me, as I shoved him over. “f**k off, Alex!” I grinned back at him. “So, ready for the party tonight?” He grinned back at me as his eyebrows rose. “Yeah! I Can’t wait. Are you bringing a date?” Alex shook his head, his nose rising up, as if he smelled something really bad. Making him once again look like the goof he was. Alex was my best friend, we were only a couple of weeks apart in age, so basically we grew up together. Our moms even secretly had hoped that we would have been mates. But unfortunately, that did not happen. Alex turned 18, he had looked at me once and… well… nothing happened. Of course, we cared about each other deeply, and maybe a part of me had wished he would have been my mate too, and I think Alex felt the same way. But alas. That did not happen. Honestly, Alex was very handsome. Dark eyes, dark short hair which was always styled in the best way possible. The body of a God and a smile to die for. But still, we were just friends, and nothing more. Even though we had made this secret pact, that if by the time we both reached the age of 30, and we still would not have found our mates, we would choose each other, instead of growing old alone. It was funny in some way. Because by just being his friend, most girls in our pack still hated me for always being around him. Jealous, they just want to be in my place. But well, that’s their problem really. Once I had turned 18, I had been looking for my mate too, but I still hadn't found him. Meaning he was not living in this pack. The boys got to go to the ‘ritual of choice’ every year, but that was still only for the boys. Like, girls could use something like that too, you know? I would love to have a buffet of boys, walk in , Make your pick and get back out. 2 years have already passed without me finding him, so, as of this year, I had decided to throw my attention on my education. I would love to become a teacher someday, so I interned at our school, helping around in the first grade. Hoping someday, I would get my own class. That is, if my father would stop bugging me about that stupid Alpha title of his. The rules say that I, as the first born of the Alpha, should claim his title. My father had taken the Alpha’s position when he had turned 18 years old from my grandpa. Djees! I would never have done that, I was still a child when I was 18, heck, I am still a child today at 20! I just hoped I would someday find my mate, and he would gladly take the role of Alpha, giving my dad some well-deserved time off. So he could spend some more time with my mom. Ieuw! Flashes of my parents kissing and hugging flashed inside of my mind, which was like 99% of their time spent together. It made me feel sick! OK, lovy dovy parents are great, but Christ, Keep it inside the bedroom walls please! Alex walked with me towards his motorcycle. Like a real badboy, he drove a motorcycle instead of a car. His mother, Cindy, had given him such a hard time about it, but eventually, she gave in and on his 17th birthday, his dad, Nicholas, got him one. He never let a day go by without driving on that dangerous thing. “Need a ride?” He asked as he grinned at me, knowing very well I hated that thing even more than his own mother. “Nope, I’m good. I took Betsy.” I grinned as I pointed at my car, standing a bit further in the parking lot. “ OK, your loss.” Alex winked at me as he put his helmet on. He put on his bike, making a deafening sound, and turned around, driving off to the main road. I threw my backpack in the backseat and stepped inside of my old SUV. She was rusty, but she was all mine. It took me a weekend job and lots of hours working at the library to save up the money. But I earned my own car fare and square. I drove towards my home. A big beautiful white picket fence house, which laid besides the lake. Me and my mom spent countless hours on that porch, looking at sunsets, sunrises… It really was our bonding place. I saw my brother Tobias was playing socker. He was 14 and a total asshole, puberty was hitting him hard and he was giving my parents a hard time. The fact that he was outside kicking full rage against a ball, probably gave away that he just had an outburst, and my mom would be huffing and puffing in the kitchen right about now. I parked the car and stepped out. Ahh, home sweet home. For 2 more months! I looked around as I stepped towards the front door. 2 more months, and I would be out of here. I had finally found a small studio in the center of the village that I could rent out. I would need to hold my job in the library in order to pay for it, but I really needed a place for my own. And in September, my move would come, and I would finally be able to start living my own life.
