Chapter One

Rhea could sense the rain before she saw it, before they neared Seattle Airport. It didn’t let up when they landed, nor as they watched luggage go past them on the baggage carousel. Bella looked at her with wide brown eyes. Renee and Phil had dropped them off at the Arizona Airport. Renee hadn’t gone with them, since she didn’t have the heart to see them go. Before going, Renee had told them they didn’t have to go to Forks to live with Charlie. It took days for them to convince Renee that they wanted to go, and even then Renee spoke to them before they left. Bella knew that Renee wanted to be with Phil, with her husband. Rhea was happy to leave since Phil reminded her of Paul, her second stepfather. Paul had made her Mum, Sally Jackson, so happy, and she deserved it after everything she had gone through with Smelly Gabe... then Gaea’s forces had them brutally murdered. It was information that Gaea’s army had taunted her during the battle in Greece. Jason and Piper had been the ones to hold her as she cried after Octavian’s army had been defeated. After Leo had given up his life. Rhea didn’t know what was happening in Camp Half-Blood or Camp Jupiter. She was placed into the Foster System and removed from New York. Child Services was scared that whoever killed her family would go after her next. Rhea didn’t tell them anything, didn’t tell them where she had been or who had her. She did feel bad that they were wasting time investigating her parent's murder. “Rain,” Rhea said. She looked outside the window before spotting her suitcase, pulling the end of her braid to get rid of any loose hairs out. It was a nervous habit that she had picked up in her only foster home; the one she had been in before Renee had adopted her.... with Hermes’ intervention. “Welcome to Washington State,” Bella said, a small smile as Rhea grabbed her luggage before getting Bella’s. Rhea was just glad that neither Zeus nor Jupiter had shot down the planes she had been on. She had a feeling that Jason had something to do with it. “Forks is worse,” Bella warned. “Look forward to it,” Rhea said. Bella looked at her. Rhea smiled before following her towards the pick-up area, compact cars driving past the doors. Rhea was carefully monitoring those around them. A habit left over from the wars. “Farewell sun, we’ll see you once in a blue moon,” Rhea joked. Bella coughed. Walking outside, spotting a police car pulling up to the curve. Sure, Rhea was still under eighteen... and Renee was fine with it. It was just that she had never met Charlie before, she only knew about him from what Bella told her. Along with the fact that she went to California for a week and that week Annabeth tracked her down to help Magnus Chase, her dead cousin. It wasn’t the strangest thing she had heard in her life, not even her talking sword named Jack made her blink. Rhea was just grateful that Charlie had agreed to let her stay so that she didn’t have to leave Bella’s side. Didn’t stop her from worrying about being kicked out at eighteen or when she finished high school. She didn’t want to go to New Rome. She also wanted nothing to do with Camp Half-Blood, not with the memories she had connected them from both wars. “Charlie won’t kick you out,” Bella promised. Rhea looked at Bella before following her to the police car. Bella and Charlie looked like they didn’t know what to say to each other. Rhea knew the car ride was going to be awkward and she wasn’t looking forward to it. As much as Rhea loved Bella like a sister, neither of them was great at social interactions with people their age. Or rarely seen parental figures in Bella’s case. “Bella,” Charlie greeted, pulling his daughter into a hug. Bella hugged him back. Rhea raised an eyebrow. “It’s good to see you, Bells, how’s Renee?” Charlie asked. “She’s healthy,” Bella said. “Happy,” Rhea added. “You must be Rhea Jackson, Bell's adopted sister, happy to meet you,” Charlie said taking her hand into his own. Before picking up her and Bella’s bags, putting them into the back of his car. Rhea and Bella didn’t own a lot of clothing for Fork’s weather... they had left most of their clothing back at Phil’s apartment. In their bedroom. “It’s nice to meet you, Mr Swan,” Rhea said. “It’s just Charlie,” he said walking to the driver’s door, pausing to look at them, “we best get going, kiddos.” Rhea nodded getting into the back seat, she watched as they left Seattle behind them. Driving towards Forks, the closer they got, the thicker the trees got. The closer they grew together. Now all Rhea had to do was worry about her secret getting out, she hadn’t told Renee or Bella that she was a Half-blood, it was safer for them not to know. Safer for them not to know that she was the daughter of Neptune and Poseidon, nor did they know about Achilles' Curse. Rhea didn’t think too much about it, it was never worth the headache. Her injuries were going to heal annoyingly quickly with all this rain, the Curse would be just as annoying since impacts would only leave bruising instead of broken bones or large gashes. “So many trees,” Rhea said tapping her fingers together. Charlie nor Bella had said anything since they left the airport. “Rhea, you’re such a New Yorker,” Bella teased. Rhea leaned forward to poke Bella’s neck through the car’s headrest, giggling as Bella squeaked and tried to get her back. “Girls, girls, behave,” Charlie said. Rhea stuck her tongue out at Bella, sitting back in her seat. “Bella, I found a good car for you, really cheap,” Charlie continued. A good car for Bella? Rhea thought. Bella looked at her. They were most likely thinking the same thing if her raised eyebrow said anything. “What kind of car?” Bella slowly asked. “I know! A monster truck?” Rhea joked. Rhea, Monster Trucks aren’t cheap.” “Even better, a car designed for a war zone.” “Rhea.” “It’s a truck, a Chevy,” Charlie said. “Never heard of a Chevy,” Rhea said. “They don’t make motorcycles,” Bella said. Rhea grinned. The research she had done into motorcycles, in the little free time she had anything, she still remembered the one she drove during the Titan War. “You’re a horrible little daredevil, Dad, where did you find it?” Bella asked. “You’re just happy that I’m shorter than you,” Rhea said. “You remember Billy Black from La Push?” Charlie asked. “La Push?” Rhea asked. “Small Native American reservation,” Bella said. Rhea nodded. Bella went back to get details about the Chevy from Charlie; such as how old it was and how much it cost. Bella looked at her when Charlie admitted he had already brought it from this Billy Black person. Rhea was sure Poseidon would have done the same thing in Charlie’s place. Not that she would be shocked if something was waiting for her from Poseidon or Neptune. At least the moment he knew where she was going. Rhea didn’t think of it much when they pulled up to a house that had two floors. Bella had already warned her that Charlie’s house only had two bedrooms. Meaning that they would have to share, which was fine since she shared with Tyson during the Summers. Along with sharing with Bella at Renee’s rental before they moved into Phil’s three-bedroom apartment. “Dad, I love it,” Bella said pulling Charlie into a hug. Rhea blinked a few times before spotting a beaten-up old truck, the red colour was fading, that would be an easy fix. It held some charm, Rhea had to admit it, it was perfect for Bella. She could see why Bella liked it. It was a truck that looked like it could survive a car crash in one piece while reducing the other car to pieces on the road. Something Bella needed since Rhea swore up and down that she was clumsy enough to trip over thin air, along with walking into an object that was there. Rhea always swore that Bella had more bad luck than she had from the age of twelve. Which was funny, since she had been training for wars and numerous missions. Surviving two wars, along with the pit. “You’re welcome, Bells,” Charlie said coughing into his hand, “two things arrived for Rhea, but I’d hope that you don’t ride it to school in this weather, young lady.” “This weather?” Rhea asked leaving the car, and walking up to Bella before she spotted it, “a motorcycle.” “Now you own one,” Bella said. “Bella, it’s a Kawasaki Ninja, I’d be fine on this thing, it’s recommended this brand for beginners,” Rhea said. The bronze on the motorcycle pointed to it as Cabin Nine’s work, which meant there could be places to store her weapons if needed. “It’s recommended for beginners,” Rhea finished. “Dad, you said two things,” Bella said. “The other one is in your bedroom, didn’t take too long to put up,” Charlie said pointing his finger towards the house, “safer than the death machine.” “I think I know who sent them,” Rhea said. Bella got her bag. Rhea quickly got her own before following her up the stairs. “The death machine?” Charlie asked from the bottom of the stairs. “My friends wouldn’t want me riding it in the rain either,” Rhea said. “Rhea, you’re stuck with me,” Bella said. Rhea walked into the room, grinning as she looked at the bunk bed, one of the bunk beds from the Herme’s cabin before the Titan War ended and she made her demands for more cabins to be built. “I can see that,” Rhea said. “I got the bottom bunk,” Bella said. “Knowing you, you’d find a way to roll off.” “They also sent along a tallboy for you Rhea,” Charlie said pointing at it, it was on the other side of the window, and the room was cramped. But there was still enough room for a rocking chair to be placed in the corner. “I’ll leave you, girls, to it,” Charlie said. “Looks like they care about you,” Bella said. Rhea sat down next to her on the bottom bunk. “I’ve known them since I was twelve,” Rhea said, “Summer camp that was based on Greek Mythology, we were even taught old-style swordplay.” “You can email them if you like,” Bella said. Email? Rhea thought. None of them had an email and Annabeth was the only one she knew that had a phone. While Annabeth didn’t hate her and Rhea didn’t hate Annabeth, they weren’t close. Annabeth because she was the daughter of Athena and Rhea, Poseidon. Something about their parents not getting along. Rhea wasn’t her fan since she kept calling her seaweed brain, even after asking her to stop. More than once. Anyway, Rhea was glad that the rest of the Athena cabin didn’t feel the same way, Malcolm had an amazing sense of humour. “They don’t have an email or phone number before you ask,” Rhea said, “and no, Bella, I don’t one.” “You’ll get one, mark my words, you’ll get one,” Bella said. “Doubt it.” “One day.” “Yea, well when that happens, Hades would have frozen over and Zeus is going to stop cheating on Hera. Or maybe Persephone will stop going to her husband during Autumn and Winter,” Rhea said without missing a beat, “now let’s pack, dinner is a thing and we’re going to need sleep... more so if it continues to rain. I know how much you have trouble sleeping in a new environment.” “It’s not new,” Bella said. “How long has it been?” “Fourteen.” “Therefore, it’s new.” Bella huffed, “I’m going to take a shower, what about you?” “You know I shower in the morning, you and Charlie can work out schedules,” Rhea replied. She thought it was smarter since it meant that Bella and Charlie would be too tired to think anything was odd about her. Or in too much of a rush to get to work and school.
