“Mom, Mom! I have good news for you.” I excitedly screamed as I ran towards my mom. I just received an email from my dream school, it said that they want me to be part of the volleyball team and they offered me a full scholarship with free lunch, in exchange, I need to maintain the qualified grade. “Mom, Look!” I said as I saw mom in the kitchen, she is baking cookies, maybe? “Congratulation Ms. Ainsworth for…” mom opened the letter and read it aloud. Her eyes widened in shock and her mouth fell open. “Oh my gosh! Is this true?” She asks happily. I nodded my head and answered “Yes.” “Congratulation my love” Mom hugs me tightly, “I’m so proud of you.” The West Bridge All Girls University is a well-known school in our country. It produces a good leader, a great volleyball player, basketball players, Tennis, soccer and badminton team that competes all around the world that won yearly. “It’s not just that I will be able to go to college for free but also, I am going to my dream University, Mom,” I said. “I know. You deserved it, baby. You’re so great at anything.” Mom said. “I must tell it to your dad.” She continued. “Let’s surprise dad later,” I suggest. “Sure.” Mom replied. This is the start of achieving my dreams. Going to my dream University, check. Next is to graduate from that university with the highest honor and become a well known volleyball player. I am an only child. My mom is a manager, yet she baked cookies and sells them at work. She said that it’s because her co-workers that keeps on asking her for her cookies that’s why she always makes some and sells it to them, it's also her other source of income. Dad is a mechanic. He owns a shop where he repairs cars. It’s his business for so many years and he can even repair the most vintage car. Some of it even became our cars. He is a well-known mechanic in our city. Dad does not like to buy new trendy cars, instead he is more into buying a repairable one to fix it himself. We have three vintage cars in the garage, and I find it cool when dad drives them, maybe it's because of the thought that no one else had a similar car to ours in this century. The first one is the 1967 Chevy Corvette. It may look old, but it's unique. The second one is a 1960s Jaguar E Type and the last one is the Lamborghini Miura. Those vintage cars might look old, but I have a dad that is also a great mechanic and most of the time, an inventor. Our vintage cars only look old from the outside, but when you look inside, it has a feature of the new car parts. Inside, we got a flat-screen TV, a GPS, air-condition and leather car chair covers. It is exclusive in our Lamborghini and Corvette. Our Jaguar E type is designed as is. Dad just changes some parts, but not on our other two cars. If I describe our life, I would say it is pretty average. We are not that rich and not that poor. I know, having a manager for a mom, and a dad who owns an auto shop, it may seem like I can buy and get everything that looks expensive, but the truth is NO. My parents are still struggling to pay the loan from the bank because of dad’s shop. They still need to earn a huge amount of money so that they can be able to set up a new business. Thankfully, I got a full scholarship. Mom and dad will no longer have problems in my studies. Later that night, Dad came home. Mom and I told dad about the scholarship and he got a similar reaction to mom. Dad was so happy. He said that he’ll give me one of the three vintage cars we have so I won’t have a problem commuting to school. But my mom said that she told her friend about my scholarship and her friend offered me to stay in her house, rent-free. She said she wanted her niece to have a housemate so she won’t be alone. In addition, her house is near the University I am accepted in. “That’s great. But, wait, Is her soon-to-be housemate, a boy or a girl?” Dad asks. In my daddy’s eyes, I am still a baby that he needs to be protected. He even warned me about all the boys that'll come in my way. “Don’t worry sweetie, it is a girl, didn't you just heard that I used the term "niece"? Mom assured. “Good to know.” He replied, “At least you will have a new friend there.” He said as he faces me. “Yes, dad. I’m so excited.” I said. “We know sweetheart.” Mom said smiling After that mom called her friend again and asked if I could move in on Thursday. She said, her friend will be leaving on friday, so she wants to meet me first before she go. “This Thursday, Your dad and I will drive you to my friend, Lily. She might look familiar to you, baby. She’s here on your first birthday.” Mom said. “Mom, it is on my first birthday, I am 18 now,” I said. It’s been seventeen years. I have probably forgotten her face. “Right, Sorry.” My mom smiled at me. --- --- Today is Thursday; I already packed the things that I needed to bring. “Come faster sweetheart, we might gonna be late.” Mom shouted. “Coming,” I said. I just fix my white shirt with black jeans. I love fashion. I ran to my mom and dad. “You’re late” My mom jokingly said. “Just one minute, mom,” I said and rolled my eyes, then smile. Dad drives us to the meeting place my mom’s friend told her which happens to be at a train station. “Why here? I can drive you to the place.” Dad said. “Lily told me that she’s here, waiting.” Mom said looking around, probably trying to locate her friend. “I found her.” she said and walk, we just followed her. “Hi!” A woman in a red coat appears. I’m pretty sure we have a hot country. “Sorry for meeting you here at the train station.” She said. “Oh, is this Avery? Long time no see munchkin” She comes near me and hugs me tight. "uhhh..." i said feeling awkward “Oh, you don’t remember me? It’s me, you used to call me Auntie.” She said. I am familiar with that word. I know I call someone Auntie. But I don’t remember what she looks like. So, this is that Auntie? “But, you look young,” I said confused. How old is she when I was born? Is she 16 by that time? She laughs, loudly. “I heard that a lot. Thank you for the compliment, dear.” The heck, how can she be so young? “Lily” I heard mom said. She walks to Auntie and hugs her. “You never look old.” Mom commented. “Thank you, you too, you still look pretty.” Auntie compliments back. “But I look old.” Mom said. “Hey, don’t say that! You’re still pretty,” Auntie added. They did a little chitchat until Auntie opens up that she has a flight later at night. “I thought your flight is still tomorrow?” Mom asks. Mom told us that Auntie would have a business trip tomorrow, Friday. “I thought so too. However, they moved it this night. I can’t do anything about it though; I’ll be meeting the important people in terms of business.” Auntie said “Is that so? Okay.” Mom replied. Dad was behind us, bringing my baggage. “Call us when you get there, ok, sweetie? video call us when you have time. I love you,” Mom said then she kisses my forehead. “I will mom, i love you too. Goodbye.” I said. “I think we should get going, I’ll take care of Avery. Goodbye.” Auntie said to my parents then hugs my mom. “Don’t worry about Avery.” I notice that we walk to the train without buying any tickets. “Aren’t we going to buy any tickets?” I ask. “Nah,” Auntie said shortly then talk to the man who approaches her. “VVIP please.” She said. VVIP? Is there such a high-class train here? “This way, Madam,” The man in a white suit said. He guided us to the entrance of the train. As I got inside, the first thing that I notice is the bar counter. The inside looks like you are in a classy restaurant. On the left side of the door, there is a room. It is similar to the harry potter movie, but the difference is, the chair is convertible into a bed. “Wow,” was all I can say. I am amazed. This is my first time riding a first-class train. I didn't even know it exists. One of the staff on the train guided us to one of the rooms, and asked us what we would want to eat and drink. Auntie ordered us a meal. “Amazed?” Auntie said. “Yes,” I replied. “Good to know. I want you to feel comfortable.” She said. “Thank you. But it’s too much.” I said. I mean, we can just ride the ordinary train. It's fine with me. I am used to it. “Nah, it’s not. It is just little. It’s been a while since I met you A. you’re still a baby by that time.” She said. “How are you now? Do you have a lover?” Auntie asks. “I don’t have any, Auntie. I am too focused on my studies and volleyball.” I said. “Yeah, I heard from your mom that you got a full scholarship from the University near us.” She said. “Yes,” I said and smile. “Congratulations! You must be really smart.” She said. “Not much, Auntie. Just working hard,” “Don’t just work hard. Work smart too.” She said then winks. Our order came in. there is an automatic table that will slide up from the side and it turns into a table. This train is something. Auntie must be rich. “Say, auntie, why am I calling you auntie when you are not blood-related?” I ask. I am just curious about that. She laughs at me. “Ask that to your mom.” Then laugh again. “Ow, okay,” I said. I am shy to ask her more questions. “Kidding, kiddo. On your birthday, you started to talk, the first word you say is not mama or papa, It is auntie. Your parents are amazed that they heard you talk. However, you keep on repeating auntie. Then they ask you, who are your auntie. You did not point your father’s sibling or your mother’s sibling. You pointed me. From then on, you started calling me Auntie.” She said, Reminiscing good old days. “You know what’s funny?” She asks. I look at her. “What?” “You get jealous whenever I carry the other baby. And you always smack them in their face. Then keep on saying auntie, auntie.” Then she laughs. I laugh at her story too. I never know I could be that jealous. When your mom told me that you are looking for a place to stay, I immediately offered the house, because I know how hard it is to find a place to say there. Besides you're my best friend's daughter." She added.
