Chapter 1

Amethyst's POV "Ms. Wright, these are the sketches you asked for" my secretary told me. I gave her a small acknowledging smile and continued browsing the file I'm holding. The door to my office burst open and I raised a brow at the person who came in. "Good morning, girlfriend" my bestfriend, Celine greeted cheerfully as she made her way to my table. Celine is my bestfriend. I met her in college because she was my roommate then. She's the polar opposite of me but there was one thing that we both loved and that's fashion. Celine is more than just a bestfriend. She's like a sister to me too. She always has my back no matter what. She's amazing. "What are you doing here so early in the morning?" I asked her. She pouted. "No good morning back? How rude" she said and I chuckled. "Good morning, Celine. Now, what are you doing here?" I asked her again and she gave me giddy smile. "I just went out for breakfast with my new boyfriend" she said excitedly and I rolled my eyes. Celine and her new boyfriend. "I'll give it a month" I said making her chuckle. "I'd give it two" she said and we both laughed. Celine has had way too many boyfriends to keep track of. She only ever dates them because she's bored out of her mind. "You look like you haven't slept a wink" she pointed out. "I haven't"I admitted. She frowned. Fashion week is just around the corner so I'm extra busy trying to set up everything as soon as possible. I've been in the fashion industry for 5 years. I started when I was 20 during my 3rd year in college. No one had my back then. My family are in the business industry and I'm the second child out of three children. I have an older brother and a younger sister back in California. I had ran away from home when I was 18 because I didn't want to take up business like my parents had wanted. I flew to New York with my savings and got a small place then worked part time to pay for my education. I still keep in contact with my siblings and my brother Adrian secretly sends me every now and then but I don't spend it. I wanted to be independent. That was my choice. About a few months into being in New York, I ended up applying for part time job in a fashion company after I had quit my last job. I always had a passion for fashion. Eventually, someone had recognized my talent when I ended up losing one of my sketches during work. It wasn't intentional. I was just clumsy. Very clumsy. I became an apprentice for more than a year then I made my official debut at 20. Ever since, my work has become a hit. Except there's a catch. Not many knew my real identity. I'm Amethyst Beverly Wright but my true identity is hidden as Lady A. Since I hated the fact that my parents would meddle with what I do, I had purposely work behind the scenes. It actually intrigued people more making them more interested in my work. The setup made me feel more free actually. "For someone who is a famous fashion designer, you don't seem so fashionable" she said playfully. I rolled my eyes with a chuckle. "Anyways, you're going out to lunch with me" she said. Or more like demanded. "I will not. I'm too busy, Celine. I want to finalize everything for Fashion Week" I said making her frown. "Oh come on, Amy. It's just lunch. An hour of eating and relaxing won't hurt you" she tried to convince me. I shook my head. "No, Celine. A whole hour is alot of time to take from me" I shut her down. "You're such a workaholic" she groaned. "45 minutes. It will only take 45 minutes" she negotiated. I shook my head. "30! Ghad! Just 30 fcking minutes, Amethyst!" she said frustrated. I thought about it. 30 minutes isn't bad. Sure, I wouldn't be in the comforts of my office but I could always bring my tablet to browse while I had lunch. "Okay" I agreed and Celine sighed still frustrated. "Ghad. If only you weren't my bestfriend" she whined and I chuckled. "You know how it is. I only have myself to provide for me" I said and she looked at me with a nod. It's been 7 years since I left home and I've never met my parents not even once. They must despise me. Not that I care. Okay, maybe I do. I'm not that cold hearted. But I simply didn't want to live in a household where I'm being constantly controlled by my parents. I didn't want that. I wanted my own freedom. That's why I chose to leave in the first place. I hated being manipulated. I hated it so much. "I'll see you at lunch later. I have to run errands now" Celine said and gave me a peck on the cheek before waving me goodbye and leaving my office. I returned my focus on my work as I settled the things for the upcoming Fashion Week. Then my phone rang and I answered it as I was still immersed from work. "Hello? Who is this?" I asked as I flipped through another page. "Amy, it's Adrian" "Oh hey! How are you? Sorry I couldn't even look at the caller ID" I apologized. "It's okay. Anyway, has Amara called you?" "Nope. Why?" I said. "Nothing. I couldn't contact her and I just had this feeling, you know?" "Don't worry too much, Ady. Anyway, I'll tell you if she does call me" I told him. "Okay. Thank you, Amy. I miss you so much" "I miss you too, Ady. Let's all meet up soon when we aren't busy, okay?" I suggested. "Okay. Goodluck. I know Fashion Week is just around the corner" "Thank you" I said. "You're welcome, sis. You can hang up now" "Okay. Byeee" I said and hang up. I got immersed in my work once more and didn't even bother looking at the time until Celine burst inside my office door again. "Lunch time, btch! Get your a*s up or I'm dragging you out" she warned and I frowned before sighing and getting up as I grabbed my tablet and keys to my office before we got out. I'll see you again soon, my office.
