Chapter 1

1669 Words
Naomi’s POV I just can’t believe it. All I’m seeing is their two bodies mangled together. They noticed me standing there and gave me a look of disbelief. I’m not standing here any longer. I must get out of here. As I’m running down the stairs, I can hear the muffled voices of both my best friend Jenna, and my boyfriend Brian, screaming to me “Naomi! Please come back!” Brian catches up with me, dressed only in his boxers, at the front door. “Amelia, please let us explain…” he begged. I interrupted him immediately. “Explain?” I screamed, “You want to f*****g explain why I found you and Jenna naked, and all over each other? Seriously?” “Please, Naomi. She means nothing to me, I swear.” “Get out of my face you scumbag. Leave me alone for the foreseeable future,” I started to open the door, “and tell your slut not to talk to me either.” I don’t know where I’m going but I just keep running. How could they do this me? As I’m running down the streets of Belfast, I stumble upon a strip club called Say Striptease. I start thinking that this would be a good place to hide for a while. There is no way that they will think I’m in here if they come looking for me. As I walk through the big black doors all I see is three stripper poles on platforms with three beautiful women attached to them. One had gorgeous caramel skin with lengthy chocolate brown hair, another had fair skin with freckles and gorgeous red curly locks, and the last had olive toned skin with stunning shiny jet-black hair. They were all just in their bra and thongs. If anything, they just made me feel worse after what I’d just seen. I wish I could be as pretty as them. Maybe Brian wouldn’t have slept with Jenna. I decided to go to a dark, unoccupied corner and gather my thoughts. Then I heard a loud bang that sounded too much like a gun shot. My dad was in the Police Force, so I knew the sound well. I peeked my head around the corner and there it was. An AK-47 staring straight at one of the girls. Wielded be a man with a huge scar running from one side of his face to another. “Come out, come out wherever you are Elias De Luca” he said in a dark and eery tone. “That was a warning shot. Next time it will be in one of these sexy ladies’ heads. Don’t make me warn you again.” “Are you okay?” I nearly jumped out of my skin. I didn’t realise there was anyone beside me, but woah. This man is gorgeous. Deep brown hair, tan skin, and wearing a black, pinstriped three-piece suit that showed off the muscles in his arms and broad shoulders. He was mesmerising. I realised I hadn’t answered him yet as he said “Well? I haven’t got all day to wait for an answer.” “Y-yes, I-I’m okay,” I stuttered. What is wrong with me right now? I don’t usually stutter my words. “Good. What’s your name?” “Naomi. Naomi Loughran” “Nice to meet you Naomi. I am Elias De Luca. Excuse me while I teach this fool a lesson. Stay down and don’t come out until I tell you.” Wait, what? He’s the guy the other man wants to come out. He jumped over the table with ease and stood right in front of the guy with the gun. I can’t stop staring at this scene unravelling in front of me. It almost feels like a dream. A terrifying nightmare, but a dream, nonetheless. “Ah, Cole Novikov my man. What exactly are you doing here in my club?” Elias said smarmily. “You know exactly why I’m here De Luca. Your father’s men killed my brother and I want payback!” “And how exactly do you know it was one of our men?” “They left the mark of your mafia on his body.” Oh f**k. This club is owned by Mafia. I’ve heard of paramilitaries around Northern Ireland but never of a Mafia. Great. What have I gotten myself into now? “I will sort this out and find out who is responsible. We have no plans to move in on your mafia as we value your union with ours. As a peaceful way of putting this issue to rest, I will not only find the person responsible, but I will deliver them to you personally to do as you wish. Deal?” “Deal. I will give you two weeks to find the person responsible, but if you don’t, I will reign hell on your whole Mafia. Understand?” “Crystal clear.” “See you in two weeks De Luca. Do not disappoint me.” “Do I ever?” The man that Elias called Cole walked out of the club with the many men he must have brought with him. I just sat there frozen. Unable to move after the scene I had just witnessed. This has been the weirdest day ever, and that’s the understatement of the century. I could see Elias walking towards me. I hid around the corner and under a table. I was more visible than I thought, and Elias seen me right away and kneeled beside me. “Please don’t hurt me,” I cried, “I don’t want to die so young.” “Why would I get you to hide from someone who was possibly going to start shooting the place up, if I was just going to do it myself?” What he said made sense. It didn’t make me any less scared though. Then he touched my arm and we both pulled away as quick as we could. What was that? It was like an electric shock running up my arm and straight to my heart. It was both painful like a burn, but also felt as good as that feeling just after you’ve had s*x. What the hell? I looked up at him and I knew he felt the same thing. The shock on his face was still showing. After about, what felt like forever he cleared his throat and said “Right, so we are in a bit of a predicament at the minute.” It took all the strength I had to speak without stuttering. “And what is that?” “You’ve seen and heard too much,” he said, “You will either have to take our pledge of allegiance and join us, or we will have to kill you.” “I thought you said you weren’t going to kill me?” “That’s before I thought about the consequences of having an outsider know who we are and our business.” The thought of joining the Mafia scared me. I had only read fiction novels on this business. I don’t know what this will entail, but the thought of death scared me even more. I’m gonna try my best to convince him of neither option. “Please,” I begged, in fear of my own life, “If you let me go, I won’t tell anyone about this I promise. I’m good at keeping secrets when it’s not my business, please?”. “Sorry, but it’s one of the two options I’ve given you. There’s no in-between,” he said in a matter-of-fact way, “I’m not in the business of taking risks that civilians may call the police or higher up authorities.” I’m not gonna mention that my dad is in the Police Force. He would surely kill me if he knew the truth about that. I thought through the advantages and disadvantages of what he was suggesting, and there was one advantage that I couldn’t take my mind off. My life. I really don’t wanna die. It would devastate my whole family. I couldn’t do all the things that I want to like travel or go camping. I wouldn’t be able to do anything. I wouldn’t be able to see my brothers and sisters grow up. There’s only one thing I can do. “Okay. I’ll join your Mafia.” “Took you long enough to answer,” he teased with a smirk on his face. “Okay, well now that’s sorted, you will have to move into my apartment for now while I make up my mind on whether you can be trusted. If you can, then you will get your own.” “What about my family?” s**t, I never thought this through. What if I can’t see them anymore? “You can see them again, but only after I’ve made my decision.” Thank goodness for that. “What use am I to you?” I don’t even know why I’m asking this. I don’t wanna give him another chance to change his mind, but I don’t know what he wants me to do for them. “We will talk about that when we get to my Apartment. Follow me.”
