“I’d like to tell you it was a date,” Pascal said after a brief pause. He looked away, and ran a hand back through his shaggy brown hair. Avery felt her heart drop a bit. More than she would have expected for a woman who woke up in another man’s bed. Her chest tightened as her memory of the morning came rushing back in. It had felt so distant from her when she was in the Cocoa Remix kitchen, talking and cooking with Pascal. She’d nearly forgotten about James. What did that say about her?
