SKYLAR My lungs were burning, but I had to keep going. I needed to succeed. I could see Blair running beside me, her eyes showed just how worried she felt, there was something wrongand both of us could feel it. I didn't want to admit it, but I was actually starting to doubt whether we had made the right call or not. "Come on, Blair, they're getting away!" I yelled, as I could feel my legs giving under me, I was tired and the supernatural creatures in front of us were dissappearing as they ran full speed. "Skylar," said Blair breathlessly as she started to slow her pace, she looked even more tired than me, and I couldn't blame her, we hadn't slept in a while. "I can't, go on without me, I'll catch up." She was leaning on a tree close by as she tried to regain her strength, her gasps echoed in the forest and I stopped beside her. "Are you sure? I can stay here with you, we can go after them later," I said, the uncomfortable feeling was still bothering me, and I didn't want to leave my partner in case something happened to her in her state of vulnerability. "Go Skylar, it's your duty, our duty," she said with a look in her eyes that said it was not up to negotiation. I nodded with determination, "I'll come back, just stay here and keep your guard up. There's something dangerous in this forest." Blair nodded and waved me off. I ran to where I had last seen the supernaturals go, the mud in the forest made it easier to find their trail, they were close by, I could sense it. But now, I didn't feel like the huntress, instead I felt as if I were the one being hunted. Suddenly the tracks ended, and I took out my gun as I catiously looked around for any sign of them. I heard a stick snap behind me and I quickly charged. Both breatures looked at me with terrified eyes. There was an adult woman along with a younger woman that seemed to be her daughter. They looked tired and terrified, but I was beginning to think it wasn't because of my prescense. "Please Huntress, we mean no harm, we were just trying to escape," said the younger woman as she looked at me, her eyes pleading for me to let them go. The older woman nodded in desperation and wide eyes, leaving me more on edge. "I could see that, but I'd like to know from what you were running," I said coldly and before I had time to react, something grabbed me from behind and threw me to the other side. I heard startled yelps as I brutally hit a tree before landing on the ground. I groaned as I quickly got up and pulled out my blades in fighting position. I aimed one of my blades to the cloaked creature who was now approaching the women in a threatening manner. The blade reached his shoulder and the creature shrieked as it entered its flesh. Both women quickly ran away and escaped into the forest. I reached for my gun that was on the ground since I had dropped it on the impact with the tree. The veiled figure advanced towards me, studying me and circling me. I couldn't see its face, but I could see it was some kind of vampire from the way it moved and the glowing saliva it was spilling. I raised my gun, ready to end its miserable life right then. "Ana, no!" I heard her yell and I turned around. Mistake. It was the first thing they taught you back at camp, never turn your back on your enemy. But her voice had taken me off guard and I was beyong surprised. The creature leaped at me and had me pinned down, its hood was no longer covering his face and I could see who the creature was. "Ethan?" I asked with confusion and shock as the creature looked back at me with pitch-black eyes and venom dripping fangs.
