1081 Words
Gabrielle's POV “Thank you, Daniel, for breakfast. Will definitely come back for lunch” I said standing up and kissing his cheek and leaving the kitchen. “You're welcome anytime.” He said smiling as always, I quickly went to the front desk and took over the person who was in the last shift. “Any reservations to take note of,” I asked. “Not really, it's quiet. So, I am guessing you will have lots of work in the afternoon.” I went through the cash box and signed in on the system. The phone rang I quickly picked up “Welcome to the Hussar how can I help?” I answered, “I would like to make a reservation for two.” The polite lady replied at the end of the call. “Sure, please can I take your name?” Name is Anna Hendricks and for two people “Thank you. For what time is your reservation?” “Please Make it 6:30 pm, make sure it’s a private room” the lady replied. I quickly scribbled down everything. “Thank you for your reservation” and the lady cut the line. I asked Megan to reserve the table for two, I looked at the clock and it was already past 3 pm my shift was almost coming to an end. I kept on the lookout as I waited for someone to come and take over, “Hey, you are late even today!” I scolded Helen, she always late every Friday without realising that I had somewhere I needed to go and work. “Am sorry, I was stuck in traffic” she replied, “I see, there a few reservations here. One of them asked that we serve them in a private place” I took out all the cash and put in a separate box. ******** “Hey, we are going to have a few drinks,” Megan said after I got to the locker rooms. “I would love to come but I have to go and help at the supermarket today,” I said to her, “Okay, guess I will see you tomorrow. These guys are waiting for me I will see you tomorrow” She hugged me and quickly left. I changed into my jeans and blouse with canvas and grabbed my bag and went to sign, my phone vibrated I took it out of my pocket and began to read the message as I walked to the main road, it was an email reminder that they would cut out our power failure to pay for it by tomorrow midday. “Guess I had no other choice but to get an advance payment from my boss at the supermarket. I stood waiting for the traffic lights to turn green so I could cross the road, only to be splashed water by an SUV. “C’mon! Don’t you think I have gone through enough today to go through this” I shouted and the driver didn’t bother to stop, the lights turned green and I ran across the road so that I could get on the bus? The doors to the bus opened and I quickly swiped my card. luckily, I found an empty seat and sat down. Went through my emails checking for any news on the application I made for a loan, our house was put up for sell by the bank my father got a loan before he was actually swindled and eventually died. He had used the house as mortgage and here I was trying to get another loan for the past three months but to no avail. The bus came to a stop as I got off going to the supermarket, I used the back door to enter and found we had received more stock., I guess I had lots of shelf packing to do tonight I said to myself. “Hello, Mrs Sanchez!” I greeted her, “Gabriella, you are quite early today, how are you?” she greeted me in her Spanish accent. “I had something to ask of you and Mr Sanchez thought I should come early so that I can talk to you about it” I replied, grabbing an apron to help her put things in order. “well you came at a bad time as you can see, we are just getting more stock, lots of work,” she said “That’s fine, I just wanted an advance pay I desperately need to pay for something,” I told her, “How much do you need?” She asked me, “I just need $300 dollars and it can come off my pay this month,” I told her, “No worries, am sure Alejandro won’t mind helping you,” She said, I smiled widely thanking her for her generosity. “Let’s get to work before he finds us chatting, you know how he is” she added on getting things from the ground. “Please let me!’’ I told her grabbing the box of fruits from her and taking them out to the store. My phone vibrated again I took it out and read the text from Emily “Please get some groceries on your way, we have run out of these.” It read I took a deep breath before continuing packing everything in their respective places. “How much is this?” a familiar voice came from the shelf’s behind “Nicolas! When did you get here?” I said sounding so excited to hear his voice. “Just now, I came to pick you up.” He said, “I still need to get groceries, hope you don't mind waiting for me” I replied, “Of course I don't mind!” he said, for the next twenty minutes I was busy putting everything in order and nicely labelling them. I took off my apron and I went to the office of Mr Sanchez who seemed quite busy on his computer. “Can I come in?” “ Please come in,” he said, I entered and sat down. “Look Gabriella I would like to help you but with the year stock which we got today we have lots of invoices to pay but I can work around it if you give me what I need,” he said coming towards me with his filthy hands on my lap and he didn't need to say anything more “I understand, thank you,” I said my voice sounding so low. “I will be leaving now,” I stood up and left his office. “Hey, is everything okay?” Nick asked me. “Yes, I am. I am leaving now Mrs Sanchez” I shouted to her. Why was it that people could not help me without asking for anything in return?
