Chapter One- Hello Hoboken

3281 Words
Leaving one life behind for a brand new start was a horrifyingly refreshing adventure for the young and naive Kara. With a suitcase of all of her most personal belongings, she carried herself onto the flight that departed from her hometown to the town that would be her new home. While on board, she could feel one type of nerves to fade as another formed in their place. She couldn't distract herself with the in flight movies or sleep, as all she could do was look down at what she was leaving behind. There had been a mix of bittersweet memories that filled her head, but none grand enough to make her stay. She wanted there to be the kind of life where she could awaken with possibilities, not having to lie on the bruise she got from her boyfriend. Perhaps leaving a dear john note upon their shared dresser would force him to one day come after her, she knew that New Jersey was busy enough to fade into. The fact that her high school best friend held a life here for the last few months was enough of a foundation and reason for Kara to arrive. Although it was only over a year since graduation, the girls kept in touch via social media until Kara learned she could no longer take her small town lifestyle.  As she embarked from the plane, she found a set of familiar faces to look to her with wide smiles. Her best friend, Kaitlyn stood with a handwritten welcome sign and a balloon. She ran to her friend, having embraced her for a long while before taking in how she had changed.  Kara was a woman of modern beauty as she took great care in her appearance. Her eyebrows were perfectly shaped, her makeup was always pristine-even if it appeared natural, and not a hair remained out of place. This was the epitome of who she was to everyone-collected. But Kaitlyn knew that only compensated for the chaos she felt inside herself. Kara would be able to use her feminine charms to gain the attention of any man, but always put herself with ones that were guaranteed to break her heart. It didn't matter her thin physique or naturally dark blonde hair, she allowed herself to be objectified and sexualized.  Kaitlyn on the other hand was the complete opposite with an entire "what you see is what you get" aesthetic. Even standing in the airport where thousands of people passed her, she wore sweat pants and a plain purple tee and her glasses. Her late colored waves had been placed up in a messy bun that somehow fit her perfectly.  The other friendly face had been that of Dean, Kaitlyn's brother and a friend to Kara. Out of the ten years of friendship they shared, Dean was always a brother figure to her, having been the shoulder to cry on whenever her and Kaitlyn were on the outs. They had grown close one summer and had been the three musketeers ever since, even if this meant from afar.  "You look so good!" Kaitlyn spoke upon finally releasing her friend from her solid and even suffocating embrace. Kara gave a hug to Dean, finding comfort in the cologne he had used since he was beginning adolescence. It had been the little things that made her feel at home in such a strange city.  She had been pulled out of the airport doors after taking her items from the baggage claim and into a car known to be of Kaitlyn's possession. It was a rather old car with over two hundred thousand miles that gave a horrible carbon footprint upon the world, but it was Kaitlyn's first and only adult purchase. The interior of the car had been a bit littered with crumbs of meals long forgotten and clothes in desperate need of a washing machine taking up occupancy beside Kara as she made her way into the back. Kaitlyn tried to distract her from this by telling her how excited she was and asked, without giving any insinuation of her curiosity, as to why she decided Hoboken. It wasn't exactly Princeton and its reputation wasn't something to envy, but Kars sing responded with a vague "needing a change" statement. This had concluded the time until arriving at a set of apartments that lined together until breaking a crosswalk into the street. Not even an alleyway was between them as they were too close to what Kara was used to in Texas.  The apartment she was led into was rather clean compared to Kaitlyn's car. Perhaps it was the fact that Dean had a room there and paid the majority of the rent. Irregardless, it would be her new home.  Dean carried her stuff into her room as she was given a tour by Kaitlyn. Directly upon walking in had been a living area with a leather brown couch and mismatched red recliner that had years of stains upon its crimson fabric. A television set on a small table that separated the living room from the dining area. A small area with light mock wood chairs of different sizes and brands circled around a table whose center was decorated with a bowl of faux fruit. The kitchen was immediately to the left, complete with every necessary appliance and a fridge decorated with treasured family photos and a shopping list seemingly forgotten by its fading ink. A half wall lined with lanterns held a bear claw tub concealed with a clear shower curtain. A closet sized room held the porcelain toilet and a stack of toilet paper that have the appearance of a throne as if set behind and abreast the latrine. The bedroom consisted of one that pulled out from the wall that was of Kaitlyn's possession as Dean's had been kept secret behind the remaining door in the apartment.  "I plan on pitching in-" Kara attempted to interject before she was interrupted by Dean. "And I love you for it, but right now, just focus on getting adjusted to the city...I still don't know if I am." Kaitlyn spoke while pulling a wine cooler from the fridge. There was a part of Kara that had felt jealous about the buzz she knew that came with a drink and the fact she would have to wait another two years before she could.  "You can drink, just as long as you do it here…" Dean informed her as she thanked him. His eyes lingered upon her, drinking in how much she had changed from the schoolgirl he knew for so long.  "Tonight, we are going to a club." "I'm not 21…" she reminded her friend as Kaitlyn smiled.  "I know. I took it upon myself to flirt with the bouncer before I was 21 to get in. He is in love with me…" Kaitlyn teased as she flipped her hair with an overly dramatic pout.  "And this wouldn't be Ben would it?" Dean asked with a protective look complete with crossing his arms across his chest. It was in this moment that Kara's eyes focused upon his muscles-something he lacked the last time she had seen him. Another reveal had been the bottom edges of a tattoo that must have been new.  "Ben?" Kara asked with her brows raised.  "One among a string of potentials." She spoke, keeping her same flair for the dramatics as Dean chucked to himself. He seemed uninterested in the old friends catching up until Kara had been asked if she was currently seeing anyone. His attention had focused on her, this fact being unknown to her.  "There was a guy back home but I had to get out of there…" Dean smiled to himself before hearing that the girls were going to leave to that club. It would take a few hours to transition their rather rundown looks to ones worthy for the club. Perhaps that was something that remained the same for Kaitlyn as she had been able to change from appearing like a poor college student to borderline prostitute. She held a confidence that was envied by Kara.  Kaitlyn pulled her friend to the back of the apartment and to a wardrobe that appeared like one with the same colored wall it was positioned up against. As she opened it, Kara was exposed to a selection of clothes that seemed lavish and holding a variation of styles and colors.  "Pick anything you want." Kaitlyn told her as she chose a small dark red dress of her own before moving toward the shower. The water began to steam up the curtain as she slid her clothes off and made her way inside as Kara fingered the clothes. With each hanger she flicked past, each became less intrigued by what sat before her until she came to a solid black dress. It had a cut out section that showed underboob, but it was the only age appropriate thing she could find as her clothes she brought from home wouldn't be up to par.  By the time she put on her dress and finished her makeup, she finished with the shower and changed into her dress that was skin tight enough to tell the when she would get goosebumps.  Both girls finished their makeup and hair, appearing give to ten years older than they were as Dean now made his way from the bedroom. Moving in the kitchen to make a sandwich, his eyes caught upon Kara as she was bent over and putting on one of her shoes. She appeared in slow motion to him as she then turned to him with a smile.  "Earth to Dean!"  "Sorry, Kay…" he spoke in a distracted tone as he tried to keep his attention on his sandwich as opposed to the beautiful woman standing before him.  “Don’t wait up.” Kaitlyn teased as Kara followed behind her friend until she was led down to a taxi that had an odd smell of old leather and a mix of different perfumes and cologne-although they were slowly fading. The woman driving in the front didn’t even turn to look at them as Kara had been so used to the over friendly people in her life that this had been a drastic change. Kaitlyn had given an address as night fell around them, giving them the aesthetic of living the night-life.  Kara was the first to slide out of the cab to come into sight of a line held within velvet ropes. Most of those in line paid no attention to them but a few aroused men looking only for action had winked, whistled, and flirted with them from afar-to no avail as the girls were wise enough to know that those men were just f-boys. As Kaitlyn fixed her skirt from getting out of the car, she moved to the bouncer who gave her a kiss on the cheek and a hug where his hands moved to the curve in her back, almost feeling her up in a sense. Kara grew uncomfortable until he let them inside to the club. Violet and aqua colored lights had fallen around the floor complete with a strobe addition of fluorescent white. The music being played was almost too loud to be understood until the chorus began to pump through the club’s speakers.  Thora looked around to notice the couples appearing as if they had been auditioning for dirty dancing. All kinds of couples surrounded them as they were making their way towards the bars, many which were part of the l***q+ community. For everyone else, this wouldn’t have been a surprising sight-but for Kara, she was blushing in seeing the same gender entangled in romantic embraces.  “Okay...so if I remember right...you still like anything strawberry...right?” Kaitlyn asked her friend who was taking in the surroundings the best she could considering how out of place she felt. “One strawberry daiquiri and one cosmo, double olives.” Kaitlyn ordered as if she had been made to do just that.  The girls took two empty seats from the bar and enjoyed their drinks as Kara finally began to ease up on feeling so uptight. Perhaps it was the rum hidden beneath the strawberry flavoring in her drink, but Kara began to loosen up-enough to go out onto the dance floor with complete strangers. The sweaty bodies of her peers didn’t seem to bother her so much as the more alcohol she consumed. She was now on her third drink, something she didn’t even remember asking for, but took rather quickly. With each sound of the bass dropping or the chorus coming into play, she found her dancing partner to change until she met with a guy who had been horribly attractive.  He held a mix of politician and model-esque traits while standing confident in the polished shoes upon his feet. Of all the men she danced with, he was a gentleman as he asked to dance before just grabbing her as the others had done. Perhaps this was why she smiled when their bodies began to grind together to the lyrics of Dua Lipa. Before she was aware of what had happened, Kara found herself in the VIP section of the club being cornered by this man as he spoke sweet nothings into her ear. His hand rested upon the edge of her knee, slowing moving closer and closer to the hem of her dress as if testing how far she would be willing to let him go. Kara felt the most unlike herself she ever had as just this morning she had been in a diner for what would be her last shift in a middle-of-nowhere town in Texas, and now she was in a VIP lounge with an incredibly handsome man. The feeling of his calloused fingers upon her freshly shaven skin was enough to cause goosebumps to soar throughout her entire body. But as they continued to grow closer and closer, the man excused himself to get a cigarette, inviting her to join him, as they made their way into the alley just outside of the club.  Although a large dumpster sat directly outside the door and was overflowing with garbage from God knows where, Kara had been focused on the man as he withdrew a cigarette from a carton and lit it beneath his hand. The flame caused by the lighter had reflected back into his eyes, somehow making him more attractive to her than he had already been. The scent of the cigarette had been a turn off to her so many times before, but the way it fell between his lips-she actually came to envy the cancer stick.  “I haven’t seen you around the city before…” He spoke with a tone laced in a Jersey accent. “You aren’t from here, are ya?” “No. I’m from Texas.” His eyes shot up in complete surprise.  “And you came to this piece-of-s**t place from there? It HAD to have felt a loss when you left.” She smiled to his words as she could tell that he definitely had an interest in her.  “Thanks…” She spoke while setting a piece of hair behind her ear before watching her reject his offer of hitting his cigarette.  “You’re a goody-goody, aren’t you?” She shrugged. “What constitutes as that?” “The fact you say words like ‘constitutes’...” He smirked and then chuckled to seeing her blush beneath the fading light that hung just off center of the dumpster.  “I suppose I am them…” He extinguished the cigarette from beneath the toes of his shoes before setting his hand on her cheek. His fingers kept that stubborn piece of hair that seemed to ride along with the slight breeze of the New Jersey night.  “Has anybody told you how kissable your lips are?” He asked upon wiping all sense of comedy from his mouth and focusing solely on hers while licking his own, preparing them for that they both knew would happen.  “No…” She looked down, nervous. “Are you a virgin?” “No.” She said honestly, slightly ashamed at the answer, and curious as to just why she was so open with him.  “Good.” And just as quickly as he seemed to appear into her life, he had pushed her up against the closest wall with a kiss that was hot enough to warm an iceberg. For the first time in her life, Kara didn’t think about her family or her friends back home or what doing this in an alleyway would classify her as-she just went with her desire and fell into his.  Without removing any clothing, the man removed the zipper from his pants, pulling them down enough to not catch on the teeth of his zipper before lifting her legs back around him. His fingers moved her panties, pulling them until they dangled upon the heels-seemingly clinging on for dear life. Having already been damp from the erotic notion of his words, Kara found him to glide into her without even a single issue. As her back hit against the cold wall behind her, the man spoke in a hot breath against her ear,  “s**t! You are so tight!” His voice only added to the heat in the moment, making her dig her nails into him to hearing such provocative words. Although her guy back in Texas was a rebel, even to the extent of forcing his knuckles onto women, he never spoke in a s****l way. But this man knew exactly how to hold her, how to kiss her, how to make her cry out for him-even without knowing his name. Perhaps that had been some of the charm as Kara watched the man slow to pace himself before allowing them both the chance to gain a breath.  “What is it?” She asked, nervous that perhaps she didn’t respond the way she should have.  “I haven’t felt a girl like you in a long time...I want to savor you.” He spoke upon gripping her face and kissing her with a French kiss that turned into a full on makeout. When his kiss drifted to her neck, she then felt him begin to regain his thrusts, sending his manhood in and out from her-forcing her to moan and whine beneath him.  “I’m gonna come…” He said as he waited for the green light from her to do so. As she had the false safety of being on birth control, she believed that would be enough to protect her as she could feel his excess release inside of her. For a moment, the man lingered, soaking in a few reactive thrusts before pulling from her.  “That was…” He spoke before running his hands through his hair, in disbelief on how she felt around him.  “There you are!” Kaitlyn spoke as she made her way out of the side exit in enough time to see her friend redressing, complete with the underwear upon her heel. However, as Kara turned to get the name of the man who had truly pleasured her, she found him to be missing and disappearing into the night.
