Chapter Three - Company for breakfast

1588 Words
Layla’s P.O.V I watched as Miles disappeared into his apartment, shaking my head. I don’t know how I am gonna handle working with him. There was just something about him that was getting to me, getting to me in ways he shouldn’t be. He was so straight to the point, he would be trouble I can sense it. I feel guilty for admitting it, but I enjoyed his attention he was giving me earlier. It has been a while since I have had that sort of attention. I wasn’t the only one enjoying him, he was very popular with people, got so many numbers. I wonder if he will use any of them? That is none of my business if he does, maybe if he calls one of them, he will stop putting all his attention on me. I gave myself a shake before driving home, knew Kyle would be sleeping anyway cause he is up at Six A.M. to get ready to go to work.  I need time to mellow down before climbing into bed or I wouldn’t sleep. I made sure to be quiet when I went in, not wanting to wake him. I went to the kitchen making myself a cup of tea before grabbing my k****e, reading for half an hour and then would get to bed but I found I couldn’t concentrate, Miles coming to mind. No! That is not allowed. I am not that sort of girl, no matter how sexy he was, plus he was three years younger than me. I don’t go for younger men, too much hassle and drama for me. I finished my tea off, deciding to head to bed, maybe that way I will stop thinking about what I am thinking about. I sighed, sitting my k****e aside, heading to our bedroom, getting my PJs on and slipping into bed next to Kyle who was sound asleep and snoring slightly. I rolled over, rolling into him and snuggling into him, my arm around him. “Hey, you are home, how was work?” he asked tiredly “Busy, how was your night?” I asked kissing his neck. “Quiet.” He said I continued kissing his neck, hoping to fit a quickie in before we went to sleep. “Baby, tomorrow…I am tired and up early.” Kyle said I sighed, pulling away, he does this a lot. I get that he is tired and up early, but it is the only chance we get. “Ok, night,” I said turning away from him. “Night, love you.” He said “You too…” I said Within moments he was sound asleep again. I hated that we worked different hours from each other, barely got anytime together, not only the making love side of it but in general. I wish we could back to the first year, we always made that time for each other. I sighed again, getting comfortable, closing my eyes and hoping sleep would take over soon. I am glad I don’t start until six P.M tomorrow, gives me time to sleep and relax before I must go back, have to be around Miles. I pushed my s****l frustration aside and finally found myself drifting off to sleep. ***** I woke seeing it was ten A.M. and I never even heard Kyle leave for work, must have been in a deep sleep. I stretch, pulling myself out of bed to grab a quick shower and get ready before heading out to grab coffee and breakfast, deciding I couldn’t be bothered cooking breakfast. I don’t like cooking for only one. I decided to head to my favourite café, that was not too far from my apartment, short enough distance I could walk. I made sure I had my k****e with me, hopefully actually get to read it. “Hello Layla, just the usual sweetie?” Martha, the owner asked. “Yes please…” I smiled going to take my usual seat at the window. I liked to see the outside world. Martha soon came over with my Flat white Coffee and a small bowl for fresh fruit. “Your omelette won’t be long sweetie. How have you been, not seen you in a few days.” She smiled. “Thank you. I am good, yourself? How is the family?” I smiled. I was a regular here, everyone knew me, and I knew them. “Good, good sweetie. Yes, we are all fine thank you.” She smiled. We chatted for a few minutes before she had to go. I got my book up, enjoying my fresh fruit as I did. I was getting right into it when I hear someone clear their throat in front of me. I looked up, a little annoyed that a stranger is clearing their throat at me, but I soon realised it wasn’t a stranger at all. “Good morning boss…” He laughed. Yup, there he was…Miles standing in front of me with that stupid smirk on his lips. “Are you stalking me? I have never seen you here before.” I said. “I am not stalking you, Layla.” He chuckled “I was passing on my way back from the gym, decided I needed a coffee, this was the first place I reached.” He added. “OK, if you insist…” I giggled. “Can I join you?” he asked. Join me? I was not sure if that was a good idea especially after the not so clean dream I had about him last night but let’s not get into that. I would rather forget it but I can’t exactly tell him that can I? “Yes, sure as long as you don’t annoy me,” I said “I promise I will not do that.” He said sitting across from me “What are you reading anyway?” he added. “None of your business that is what,” I said. “Oh, are you reading dirty books Layla?” he smirked I don’t know what that was to do with him, but yes. I was reading erotica, but he never needed to know that. I just gave him a look, hoping he would get the hint but nope, instead he grabbed my k****e and started reading aloud. “He pulled her tightly into his hard, naked chest, the woman he has wanted for many years. Her naked body against him was enough to get him excited. He lifted her up from the thighs, carrying her to his bed, laying her down. Every dirty thing he has ever imagined doing to her crossing his mind. She lay there excited, anxious on his what his next move would be.” He said but I grabbed it before he could read anymore. Why? Because him reading it out was making the book sound even dirtier and was getting to me. “Do not touch what is not yours,” I said swatting his hand. “Hey, I was enjoying that, you just totally ruined it for me. I wanted to know what happened next.” He huffed at me. “Tough, I said you could sit if you never annoyed me, but you are annoying me, either stop or go away,” I said shaking my head. “Yes mam, I will stop.” He laughed. Martha soon came over with my food, looking surprised someone was now sitting with me. “Here you go sweetie, who is your friend?” She smiled. “Thanks. This is Miles, he works with me.” I said “Hey, nice to meet you, Mam.” He said sweetly “You too dear, can I get you anything?” Martha smiled “Can I have a white coffee please and a bagel with cream cheese.” He smiled. She smiled, nodding before heading off again. I turned my attention back to Miles who was resting back on the chair, looking at me with a smirk on his lips. Why does he keep smirking at me? “That is a cute tee you got on there.” He said nodding at it. Cute? It was a baseball shirt that I have had for years but I loved it too much to toss it away, it was just that comfort and cosy. “Um, thanks,” I said “Where is that boyfriend of yours? Surely, he doesn’t make his girlfriend eat breakfast alone, that isn’t very gentlemanly of him is it now?” he said. “He is at work.” I said, “You seem to have an issue with my boyfriend, why is that?” I asked. “No issue with him, just hope he knows what he has.” He said shrugging. I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at him with his comment, how cliché of him. I brushed what he said off completely and started on my food, his arriving too. Hopefully, that will keep him quiet for a few minutes anyway. What are the chances of me running him to him, here of all places? I had a feeling I was gonna be stuck with him for the next few hours.
