Chapter One
Raina's POV Monday Was that supposed to be there? How long has it been there? I narrowed my gaze at the corner of my ceiling, where a huge dark watermark that appeared out of nowhere. Shaking my head then unlocked my phone when I realised, “s**t! I’m late!” I groaned, quickly taken a picture of the watermark before hurriedly grabbed my bag and dashed for the door. This was no way of starting my week. As I glide out into the hallway, I glanced over to the end of the hallway to where the one elevator would be, noticing it widely opened as some of my neighbours entered. “Please wait!” I yelled, struggling to lock my door. Groaning in frustration, glancing at the elevator. Finally, hearing that ‘click’, I scrambled my way to the elevator. However, the closer I got to the elevator, the doors slowly slid, “HOLD THE DOOR!” I yelled, stumbling in my four-inch heels, and the doors were inches from closing. Staring in the gap of the doors, I saw Mr Farmer staring at me with a mischievous grin as the doors closed in my front. Gasping in shock, I knew he had something to do with it. He and I never got along. Checking the time, I knew I was going to be seriously late because my train heading into the city has left and I was just violently pushing the down button. Mr Ross was going to kill me, I thought to myself, waiting for the elevator to come back to my floor. An hour later, I jog into office, “WHERE IS MISS LEE!” I heard Mr Ross roars coming from his office, I threw my belongings on my desk and grabbed the papers for his meeting that he was thirty minutes late. "If I get my hands on that woman, I will murder her!” Hearing that I was hesitant, wondering if I should just hide until Mr Ross has calmed down. My plans of hiding ended abruptly when Mr Ross’ office door opened, and he stood in front of me. Quick thinking, I smiled warmly and tilted my head slightly to the side, “Good morning, Mr Ross. We’re late for your meeting.” I said, he groaned and just walked past me, heading to the conference room. Quietly sighed in relief that he did not kill me, hurried, following behind me. Bumping into someone, I lift my head; I saw gelled back sandy blonde hair, Mr Ross! I jumped back, talking over his shoulder, “if any of this ever happens again, I won’t be hesitant to fire you. Do you understand?” Nodding my head ‘yes’, “yes Sir, I understand.” I answered before entering the conference room as Mr Ross apologizes for being tardy. Luckily, the meeting went smoothly, but I could not shake the feeling I was forgetting something. Tuesday I cannot believe myself; I lost my phone. Why? Just why? Wednesday The day was going smoothly; I woke early, got to work on time, and I had my replacement phone. But despite it all, everything came crumbling my golden blonde hair got entangled in someone’s watch and every trying different way to untangle my hair, there was choice than for me to cut my hair. At the end of day, I was in the hairdressers’ chair, watching my shoulder length hair turn into a bob haircut. At least, my pale blue eyes are more visible. Thursday Woke up with a terrible headache and flooded with some much paperwork in work. Leaving work later, mostly because of the headache and I was slow to complete my work. Friday I still cannot believe I had made to the weekend. After work, I promise I’m going to have a cold drink after everything I had gone wrong this week. Sighing gleefully, I leaned back against my seat on the train as it heads into the city. Mr Ross was having another important meeting with investors, so this must go well and not repeat Monday. Suddenly, the train stopped. There shouldn’t be a stop now, I wondered, and glancing around. Maybe there’s an issue? “Ladies and Gentlemen apologize for the delay, but we are experiencing technical difficulty. Please bear with us, thank you…” Wait, how long will it take? I asked in my head. Seconds turned into minutes, and minutes turned into fifty-five minutes, when the train finally moved. I should be a master jogger, running into the office, which ended up in disaster—dumping into Mr Ross, causing his coffee flying onto him, “MISS LEE!” He screamed, as he pulled a piece of his now coffee brown shirt away from his chest. Seeing the steam that glide from his mug and on his shirt, I realised it must be freshly drew coffee. “I am so sorry, Mr Ross,” I gasped, feeling everyone’s eyes on me. “It was a mistake. Let me, help you get—” “Miss Lee,” he cut me off, sighing, then looked up at me. “You’re fired.” There was silence… “What?” I murmured. “You’re Fired, pack up your things and leave.” He said, turning his heels and away. “Can someone bring my dry-cleaning?” “Of course,” muttering to myself, slowly heading over to my desk. Quietly packed my things and headed back to my one-bedroom apartment. I really need that cold drink, thinking to myself as I unlocked my door and pushed opened. Stepping to my apartment, I heard a splash, and my feet were suddenly wet. Tilting my head to glance down at my floor, seeing my floor covered in a pool of water. Remembering the watermark that I saw on Monday, dropping what I was carrying and rushed to check my ceiling, seeing water drops rapidly falling like a downpour of rain. “s**t…” What had I done for a week to go downhill? I wondered, taking a sip of beer, gazing around the empty part of the park. I did not want to be in my apartment while waiting for my Landlord to come and see the mess, knowing him, he was going to take his time to get to my apartment. So had my cold drinks of beer early and surround myself in nature. I mean, I know it was wrong to be drinking in broad daylight, in a park. But I found a quiet place, away from any pair of eyes as I drink my dreadful week away. “Hey!” I flinched, snapping my gaze to the person who has suddenly appeared across from me. She had scarlet red hair, caramel eyes and troubling wide grin across her face as she sat across me. Clearing my throat, “huh… Can I help you?” I asked, confused by her sudden appearance and behaviour. “Question is, how can I help you?” She said, reached in and grabbed one unopened beer bottle. “I can see you’re having an awful week,” she grinned, opening the bottle. While she was gulping down my beer, I furrowed my brows in confusion and asked, “and how do you know that?” Slamming the empty bottle on the table, she sighed in relief and stared at me, “would you believe if I told you I’m a goddess?” She smirked. Lifting a questioning eyebrow, “huh, no. And that’s mine.” I pointed at the bottle she was grabbing. Rolling her eyes as she opened that bottle, “oh please, sharing is caring, you humans say.” Leaning forward, grabbed the bottom of the bottle, stopping her from gulping my beer. Her surprise gaze met with my narrowed gaze of warning, she groaned loudly and placed the bottle back down, “fine! How about we make a small bet and test my divine powers? Then maybe I’ll help you get out of problem you are having on earth, if I like you.” My gut tells me not to trust her, but same, I want to see what she has on her sleeve, especially as she drank one of my beer bottles and was about to gulp another. Hesitantly, leaned back, “okay, what is the challenge?” Seeing her grin widen more, sent shivers down my spine, “I think I like you already…” She muttered, pulling a transparent bottle onto the table, it had something inside that was clear as water. She placed two short glasses on the table as well, placing one glass in front of me then the other in front of her. “How about a drinking game?” “What?” “A drinking game,” she grabbed the bottle and poured the liquid in my glass, then hers. “We’ll see how glasses each one of us can take until we finish this bottle.” The bottle was as big as a champagne bottle, but what worries me, was what was in that it. “If I win, then you have no choice but to help me with whatever it is I ask you.” My eyes widened, hesitantly lifting the glass to my nose to smell the liquid, “and what is it you need help for?” She lifted her glass and winked at me then taking the short, “I’m not saying.” Glanced back at my glass, “okay, if I win and you’re really a goddess then give me some ‘divine’ powers.” After pouring another short, she lifted her glass up to a cheers and smirked, “okay…” I groaned quietly then clicked my glass with hers, “cheers!” She cheered, and we both gulped the drink. Feeling a burn down my throat, I choked and groaned, realising this drink was no ordinary spirit…
