Awakening
Daisy woke up in the tiny closet that served as her room, that was barely big enough for a dresser, the bed, a chair and a nightstand that she could walk around without stubbing her toes. It was the morning of her 16th birthday, and either way today she would be leaving this Pack forever. She was glad that the Lycan King himself would be here tonight, as it was the beginning of the once a decade Pack Gathering. The Alpha, Luna and Delta of every Pack in the entire kingdom would be there tonight. It was law that on the night a person was bonded to their Wolf, that they could choose to join the Pack of their Parents, or join another. Most joined the Pack their parents belonged too, unless they had already found their mates. Despite what the Humans believed, the mate bond was detectable even when they were young. In fact it wasn't unheard of a Mate Bond to become one of hatred because of actions performed during adolescence when the Bond could be ignored. She had suffered no fate like that, and after what she had witnessed in her life, she never wanted a Mate. They were only good got barking orders, and beating their women when they dared to have a mind of their own. She had decided when she was 11 and Alpha Derrik had gone too far one night and accidentally killed his Luna. He had slapped her on a balcony for daring to talk back to him, and she had lost her footing and fallen over. The 180 foot fall left her nothing but a broken shell, and Daisy had witnessed the entire thing. That was the night she had sworn that she would never allow herself to have a Mate. She jumped up as her alarm went off, knowing if she was late she would get yet another lashing added onto her weekly total that would be served today, before her shift and the arrival of the guests. She knew only a things about herself, her parents were dead, and they had abandoned her to these savage beasts. She also knew she was a Wolf, as the test hadn't taken but seconds to come back positive. Other than that, she had no clue about her origins, or who she was outside of being a slave. It was 4 in the morning, and if she didn't have everything ready for the warriors before training, and the Alpha his breakfast by 6, she knew there would be hell to pay. It didn't matter today was her 16th birthday, as she still had chores to finish until the moon rose into the night sky. 'Just roll over and go back to sleep.' a voice said in her head which made her snort. "Not a chance." she said to herself as she remembered that if she could make it till noon without any messups, she would not have any lashes this week. She also knew that she would do whatever it took to avoid that as she hurried to get dressed. She didn't even realize as she did so in the near darkness that her eye sight was far better than it had been even the day before. Even though the light was so low most wouldn't be able to see anything, it was enough she could see everything clearly enough to read. She rushed out of the tiny room, and up to the kitchen where she rushed to get everything done in the hour she had before the warriors would be here for coffee and pastries before training began. If she had been paying attention to what she was doing, she would have noticed she was moving much faster than the day before. She moved so fast in fact, that when she had finished with the minimum they expected waiting for them, she had half an hour before they would arrive. She knew they rarely got any reward for their work in keeping the Pack safe, so made some homemade cinnamon buns she knew the entire Pack loved. At exactly 5 am the Delta walked into the dining hall, to find it so dark he couldn't see a damn thing. "That b***h thinks she can use today to slack-" he began as he turned the lights on to see that the spread she had ready for them today was even better than it normally was. Daisy had been in the kitchen, and the sudden increase in lighting blinded her momentarily as she was taking the last tray of cinnamon buns from the oven for the Pack to enjoy today. She however knew better to say anything about it, as David Gloom walked up to the counter to his cup of steaming hot coffee, and still warm cinnamon bun waiting for his arrival. "Delta." she said bowing to him as she was required to do all of the Pack Members. "What's the occasion?" he asked as he sat down curious. "No occasion, couldn't sleep so I made cinnamon buns for everyone." she said indicating the trays on the cooling racks that had thousands of the sticky buns made just the way the Pack liked them. "Mmm that smells devine." one of the many warriors said as they began walking into the dining hall. "Why were you working in the dark?" he asked as he was one of the few who genuinely cared about her well being. Even though she had never said a word of her plans to anyone, he was well aware she had no intention of joining them this evening. He knew it would also be their loss at losing such a talented young woman. "Didn't realize I was Delta." she said dismissively as she began preparing to make the Alphas breakfast. 'They cannot know yet.' a voice inside her said as she went around the kitchen normally. Most of the warriors knew her responsibilities precluded her from engaging with them much, as Alpha Derrik demanded a large breakfast every morning that took her over an hour to prepare each day, along with her duties in the kitchen. So they would just take care of themselves, knowing to disturb her would be to invite trouble. "It was so dark I couldn't see a thing, how could you without a wolf?" he asked her curious. 'What am I chopped liver.' the voice asked making her smile as she knew better than to say that out loud. "Apologies for concerning you Delta, but I honestly didn't realize it was dark. Perhaps it will be one of my gifts from the moon Goddess when I change." she replied trying to ease his concern and give nothing away as one of the female warriors snorted as she grabbed a cinnamon bun and walked away. 'You have no idea.' the voice said. 'Shut it would ya?' she asked herself making the voice snigger in her head as the presence withdrew the tiniest bit. "Perhaps it will be, do you know what you are planning?" he asked her. For just a moment she considered actually telling him, however she knew it would only lead to disaster. "No Delta, I have yet to decide." she replied knowing exactly what she was referring to. She also knew he hoped beyond reason that she would be his Fated Mate when she changed tonight. 'Wolf boy is cute and all, but no.' the voice said looking at him through her eyes as Daisy growled low surprising him. "What he asked?" knowing it was a threatening growl as a shadow crossed the glass of the door as someone yelled. "ROGUES!" Daisy was glad in that moment that it had happened to cover what she was experiencing as the Warriors flew from the hall, shifting as they chased the 3 Rogues who had breached the Pack territory looking for an easy score. She knew better than to let that affect her work. as Alpha Derrik would not care one bit about a few Rogues that the dozens of warriors would use for their morning training session. She sighed as she looked at everything, and began cleaning fornthe time she had before she actually cooked his breakfast. By the time her buzzer went off to remind her to actually cook, she had returned the Dining Hall to its usual luster. She entered the kitchen, and began cooking away while the world outside was full of howls and cries as the Warriors made use of the Rogues in ways they had never dreamed was possible for a Pack. Exactly at 5 minutes to 5 she set the food and thermos on the tray, and began carefully walking it up the the Alphas floor, where he would be waiting in his office for his breakfast. Just as the clock hit 6 am she opened the door, as she had practiced the timing until she had it down to an art. She did not say a word as was expected of her, and set the tray down as he nodded. "Thank you Daisy." Derrik said somewhat warmly as he looked at her. "My pleasure Alpha." she replied by route memory as the voice snorted in her head as she thought the last part. 'To RIP your throat from your neck.' "What was the commotion?" he asked looking at her. "Rogues sir." she replied knowing better than to leave now until he dismissed her. Derrik snorted as he looked out the window. "What are your intentions tonight?" he asked her. "I do not know Alpha." she lied easily as he glared at her. Without the Pack link he couldn't always tell when she was lying, and could not fully command her to obey without threat of force. "You will always be welcome and have a place amongst us." he said waving his hand to dismiss her as her Wolf snorted in her head. Daisy quickly grabbed the tray from yesterday, and nearly ran from the room as she returned to the duties she was expected to perform. At 8 am the Pack Families entered the dining hall to the wonderful smells as the Warriors returned from their training session, and but one of the Rogues having been killed already. The third was tied to the post in the center of the village, where he would stay until the Alpha decided what to do with him. David walked in and was amazed once again that breakfast this morning was more than its usual affair. The favorites of the Pack filled pans tonthe brim with food, as Daisy still worked away inside the Kitchen preparing even more that he assumed was supposed to be for the Awakening Ceremony held tonight. He knew she would likely be working most of the day, and shook his head knowing it was likely the last time he would get to enjoy her cooking. He knew for a fact she had no plans to stay in the Pack, and her 'indecision' was a defense mechanism as he also knew the Alpha would be pissed beyond reason if he found out before the moon rose. The mingling families made it hard to talk with her right now, so he watched from afar, closer than any of the other Pack Members would. It was while he ate that he noticed her moving far faster and more efficiently than even the best Wolves could, after they had completed thier change. He opened his eyes in surprise as he had a sinking suspicion about what was about to happen. Werewolves got their Wolf when the moon rose, Pureblood Lycans on the other hand got their beasts as soon as they were 16. They still shifted with the light of the first full moon afterwards, but they gained their beast and abilities far sooner. From the looks of it, hers was in full swing. He however knew she wouldn't dream of revealing it, and he used the pretense of getting something from the kitchen to speak with her where none of the others would hear. She looked at him curious as he opened the fridge door, blocking himself from the view of others as he motioned her over. "What can I help you with Delta?" she asked cautiously. "Keep your abilities under tighter control or others will notice before tonight." he said casually as her eyes widened. "What do you mean Delta?" she asked barely above a whisper. "You hear her don't you?" he asked as he faked rummaging through the fridge to keep up the pretext. "Speaking to you already." 'Duh.' the voice said as Daisy gasped and covered her mouth as David smiled at her. "But we don't get our wolf until-" she said before he cut her off. "Beast." he corrected if he was right which made the creature in her purr like a kitten. 'Beast, I like that.' the voice said amused. The word resounded in Daisy's mind as she realized what it would mean. Lycans didn't call themselves Wolves, even when shifted. They called themselves Beasts. "Wow." was all she managed to say in response as he shut the door. "Yeah, who would have guessed." he said so no one could hear. There had been rumors at one time of a Lycan General who had left the Royal Court, with the blessing of the King. He had found his Fated Mate with a Wolf, only to be shunned by her Pack. They had never returned to the Lycan Palace however, and even the King had given up hope they would be found. "Guess you know what you need to do now, as there is one Pack that will most definitely take you in." He said of the Royal Pack of Lycans that ruled over all of the Werewolves. They had since the time of Todd and Ashley, the first Lycan King and Queen. Only members of the Royal Wolf Pack, or a Lycan could go there without fear of consequence, unless invited to. The rest of the morning flew by in a daze for Daisy, and before she realized it she was late for the ceremony that began the awakening ceremony. She knew it would be the one excuse that Alpha Derrik needed to see her get atleast a few lashes for, as she was still at his mercy. She however knew he didn't have any, and hoped it would only be a few. She could handle that as sure enough, two warriors drug her to the square where the body of the headless Rogue was still twitching. There they bound her tonthe same post he had been, and the village watched in glee with what was about to happen.
