Red Moon Ball Part 1

1250 Words
The second that Elden said “Then let’s get you ready!” the door of the office burst open in a whirlwind of air. A witch with long black and sapphire hair and sky blue eyes came into the room with piles of cloth bags and boxes in her hands. She settled everything on the floor loudly and looked up at Black Knight. “Hello Dear. Did you miss me?!” She said and Black Knight smiled and shook her head. Eva Wisteria was here. She was a fireball of a witch, nearly as old as Black Knight herself. She was also her closest friend. Black Knight stood and walked over to her friend. She looked down to all of the bags and boxes she had brought into the room. “Do I want to know what you have brought in here to torture me with?” She said looking almost terrified. Elden laughed, and stood up to greet the Witch with a huge hug. “Elden called me to help get you ready. God knows it’s a battle to get you into anything other than a battle dress. You are NOT wearing that ratty old thing to this Ball." Eva said looking down at the floor length battle dress she always wore. It had been patched many times, and granted, while the seamstresses trusted with this dress were skilled, the patches nearly seamless, it was not ball material in the slightest.  "You will be on display sweetie," Eva continued, "you’ll need to look as badass as you really are.” Black Knight fought to control the hiss that was working its way up and out of her throat. She contemplated opening up a portal right in the middle of the floor and escaping, but Eva was ahead of her. “If you try to run away, I’ll personally make sure that the Fae King ends up alone with you in a closet tonight.” Eva said, with a look that said ‘try me, I dare you.’ “Fine.” Black Knight said, nearly hissing the word out, as she agreed to Eva’s ministrations. Eva took that as a win, and directed Elden to bring the chair over that he had been lounging in. “I’ll start with her hair, you may want to make sure the Knights have their orders for tonight.” Eva said with a smirk. Elden chuckled, gave a sort of salute to the witch and left the room. “Why are you such a bloody pain in my ass?” Black Knight asked the Witch. Who laughed, as she pulled and pinned sections of her friend’s hair into place. “Because I know you need to attend this Ball. Many different Kingdoms and Realms will be in attendance, waiting to witness this event. The Red Moon is like you. Powerful, menacing, impartial. Only seen once a few millennia.” She added under her breath which got a small laugh from Black Knight. “The magical universe needs to see you active more. They trust you to lead armies, and protect them against threats, but you don’t have to put up such a hard front all the time.” Eva said, pinning the last of her hair into place. “They should get to see the side of you that Elden and I see.” She said turning her friend to face her. “That will never happen Eva. There’s a reason why no one knows my name. There is a reason why these events aren’t for me. What will happen tonight will be the same as any other gathering I attend. I make my obligatory appearance, shake hands with the King, then hide in the darkest corner shadows for the rest of the night. No one needs to know me beyond that. It’s pointless.” Black Knight told Eva. “You aren’t as cold as everyone thinks you are babe.” Eva said. Black Knight didn’t respond, just went back to gazing at the forest out the window of her empty office.                                                                                         *** A short while later, Elden returned to an argument between Eva and Black Knight. Black Knight had her hair done into a braided up-do, one that could withstand a fight. She also had simple make up on, that accentuated her lovely features. The light pink on Black Knight's lips was contorted in anger. The fight between her and Eva was over her outfit. Elden decided he couldn’t have picked a worse moment to arrive, but it was too late to walk out without getting lightning hurled at him from one of them for being cowardly. Elden Took up a position on the edge of the room waiting for the fight to stop. “You are going to wear this dress if it kills me.” Eva said holding a beautiful black dress, and Black Knight attempted to throw a lightning bolt at it to burn it. Eva blocked it. Barely. “Black Knight. Everyone thinks you are a cold heartless b***h, and you aren’t. Please show them. This dress isn’t a battle dress, but it can withstand a battle if needed with the spells I have woven into the fabric. This cloak is beautiful satin and velvet. Also spelled, and yes it can hold your weapons. Please do this for me.” Black Knight relaxed just slightly and nodded reluctantly. Both Elden and Eva released a breath. With a wave of Eva’s hand and a spoken incantation, Black Knight disappeared into a whirling shadow. Within seconds she was in her evening wear. Despite the scowl on her face, she was beautiful. The dress and cloak were of course black, but they had a femininity about them that her usual battle dress and cloak lacked. There was a subtle lace trim around the bodice and the neckline, and she had a figure for once. She wasn’t well endowed, but you could see the outline of her breasts, and goddess, the low hugging neckline of the bodice. Eva had chosen a dress that certainly accentuated her features, but she didn’t look slutty by any means. She looked regal, like a queen that wasn’t afraid of looking her best. Elden couldn’t stop staring at his commander. Black Knight cleared her throat and Elden went bright red, realizing he’d been staring. He shifted his gaze to anywhere in the room but her. “You look beautiful, Black Knight.” He said, and then looked back over to her after checking his pocket watch. “Good timing, it is time for us to leave.” Black Knight hissed softly at the words, and then noticed Elden was in a tux, ready to join her. She looked at Eva who waved a similar incantation over herself, until she was in a racy scarlet gown that showed off all of her best features, and then they were all ready to go. Elden waived his hand in the air, and as it glowed it produced a staff made of black wood out of midair. He handed it to his commander. “Let’s go to the pits of hell.” Black Knight said, all her S’s ending in a hiss.
