Emma POV
“Emma, hurry up, you’re going to be late,” my mom shouts from downstairs causing me to roll my eyes. My family always thinks I am going to be late all the time because I ‘sleep in’, that isn’t the case. Normally I run behind because unlike my sisters I like to train. I jump up after finishing my sit-ups, grabbing my phone I head to the shower to get ready for the day. On my way, I check my phone and see a text has come in.
Oliver: Hey Em, I’ll be on my way soon to pick you up for school. See you soon ;)
As I read the message, I can’t help but smile. Oliver was always my closest friend growing up, my family wasn’t thrilled about it because he wasn’t from the Beta or Gamma families but instead just a regular wolf in our pack. When I turned 16, we decided to give dating a shot. Most people think we are dumb. Why date now when we will be able to sense our mate when we turn 17, right? Well, our connection has always been a strong one, and even though my family doesn’t like it, they all believe that he will be my mate.
After I take my quick hot shower, I grab my loose fitting jeans, my Victoria secret sports bra, panties, black tank top, and my oversized sweater. I throw on my clothes, socks and Nike tennis shoe. I quickly brush my hair and then just throw it up in a messy bun. Who cares what I look like, I mean I don’t need to impress anyone. Besides, if I wore the clothes that I really wanted to, everyone would know that I have been up to something and that I’ve been training more than the mandated amount, which would be weird for my family. I rush down the stairs with my backpack and head to the table where mom has everyone's breakfast waiting.
“What’s for breakfast this morning, mom?” I ask as I sling my pack back to the floor next to my chair.
“Emma Lee, why can’t you act more like your sisters?” mom scolds me as my older sister, my twin brother, and my little sister are sitting at the table eating quietly. Unlike me, my two sisters look really put together, even my13-year-old sister has always dressed to impress, I’ve never understood it. I mean, the only person we should ever impress is our Alpha and our mates, but our mates should love us no matter what, they are our soul mate.
“I don’t know what you mean,” I say scooping eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy onto my plate.
“You act and dress more like your brothers, it’s no wonder the only wolf who has ever shown you attention is that Oliver wolf,” mom snapped. I immediately stopped eating, shocked that she would say that. Not the acting and dressing like my brothers part, but that she honestly thinks that it is a bad thing that only Oliver is into me.
“That wasn’t nice mom,” I blurt standing up and grabbing my bag. “Oliver is a wonderful person, just because he isn’t the rank you want me to be with doesn’t mean that he is a bad person mom.” I turn my back to my family and start walking away.
“And where do you think you are going, young lady,” my mom says.
“to school, with that Oliver wolf,” I snap back. I run out of the house and luckily I see Oliver turning the corner to my road. I run and meet him halfway out the driveway.
