Shattered But Not Broken

Carra's P.O.V I was going crazy in my room waiting for Eric to get home. It was his first day at our new school. I had really wanted to go too, but I was scared. People who I had considering friends proved that you can’t trust anyone. Everyone will turn on you if it suits them. The things that had happened at my old school had shattered me and left me vary of people The only person that I knew without a doubt would never turn on me was Eric. He was my twin. To him I was his little sister even though he was only seconds older than me. As that thought crossed my mind he walked through the door a big grin on his face. “How was it?” I asked anxious to hear his answer. "It honestly wasn’t so bad little sis," he said walking across the room towards me. “I think that you would have liked it.” "I don't think I'm ready Eric. But I’m glad that you liked it.” I said mad at myself for being so weak. "Carra,” he said turning my face towards him. “You can’t let what happened stop you from living your life. If you do he wins.” I blinked back tears from my eyes and nodded. He was right. I turned my face refusing to shed a tear in front of him. Adam had forever changed the way I saw people, guys mostly. Adam and I had dated for a little over a year when I decided to break things off. He was getting very violent and controlling. All we did was fight. He was overly jealous. Breaking it off with him only made him crazier. He started calling me all hours of the night begging me to give him another chance. He would come to my house and job he wouldn't leave me alone. He caught me outside my house one day and again tried to get me to take him back. He said he would change, but I knew it was all lies. How many times had I let things go when he acted jealous? How many excuses had I made for him before I had enough? Too many. When I still refused to give him another chance he lost it anger marring his face. He had pushed me on the floor and started hitting me. Telling me that I was always going to be his. That no one else would ever have me. In his mind I broke up with him to be with someone else. Nothing I said convinced him otherwise. He hit me over and over my nose gushing blood and my eye swelling shut. I could hear screaming coming from someone. I hadn’t realized it was Eric until he yanked Adam off me. Sending him flying across the yard. “It’s okay Carra, I’m here.” He said pulling me into his arms. “How hurt do you think you are? Did he break anything?” Eric said pulling his shirt off wiping the blood from my swollen face gently. “Tell me you’re okay?” He said tears filling his eyes. I looked up at him and cried at the look of devastation on his face. “I’m okay,” I said lying. “He’s coming,” I squeaked as Adam got up. “Call 911,” He whispered to me before he went to intercept Adam. “Awe look at you trying to protect your sister.” Adam said a sadistic smile on his face. “She’s mine, and no one not even you are going to keep her from me.” He spat a crazed look on his face. Eric didn’t miss a beat he rushed him hard an angry growl leaving his lips. He scooped him off his feet. knocking him to the ground with a thud. He hit him over and over not giving him a chance to recover. I could hear the sirens in the background and the flashing lights were coming into view. The car stopped, and officers rushed over to pull Eric off Adam. They placed both of them in handcuffs and put them in the back of different cop cars. Someone came over to me and helped me up. By this point I was hysterical. Tears rolled down my face and I struggled to catch my breath. “Who did this to you?” The officer asked me to try to figure out what was happening. He helped me over to the ambulance that had just pulled up and moved to the side while I was being checked out. “My brother was only defending me.” I sobbed wincing at the pain I was starting to feel. “Which car is he is?” He asked gently. I pointed over to the one on the right and the officer motioned over to his partner to let Eric out. They removed his handcuffs and he rushed over to me. “On my life Carra, I’ll never let him hurt you again.” Eric whispered holding me close to him protectively. Both Eric and I gave our statements and then I had been taken to the hospital. They took Adam to jail charging him with battery. The judge had gone easy on him and only given him 6 months' probation. A slap on the wrist for him a slap in the face for me. Adam was one of the most popular boys at my school. Captain of the football team, he was Mr. All American. It wasn't a surprise when I went back to school after he had attacked me, and everyone hated me for getting him in trouble. No one seemed to care that he had broken my nose or that my face was all bruised up. They would push me in the halls harass me in class It was never-ending. Eric was getting into fights every day because of it. When Adam still refused to leave me alone my parents decided the best thing to do was to move across the country. Where was he? I had been looking for Eric all over the house. I heard people talking outside and went to see who it was. Eric was by his car talking to two guys. When he saw me, he stopped mid-sentence and motioned me over. I shook my head no, but the two guys turned around. I sucked in a startled breath at how good- looking they both were. When I still hadn’t moved they all came to me. "Carra this is Lucas, "he said pointing to the 6'2 black haired blued eyed boy. I just stood there staring. My heart was beating fast and my stomach was doing flip flops. I didn't even realize he had moved closer to me until he captured my hand in his and lifted it to his mouth. Eric cleared his throat behind us and Lucas let my hand go. "This is Stephen,” Lucas said pointing to a boy as tall as him. Stephen had dirty blonde hair and hazel eyes he looked at me curiously. He smiled big before walking up to me and like Lucas, kissed my hand. “Nice to meet you,” he said with a flirty smile. I couldn't help but notice that Lucas was frowning. Stephen had a smile on his face like something was funny. I wanted to talk to you Eric, but I see your busy. I’ll just talk to you later," I said turning and running back inside. Lucas's P.O.V I wanted to run after her and beg her not to go. When I had turned around and saw her, my heart had stopped, and the air had left me. I had finally found my mate. "I'm sorry about that,” Eric said. "She's just a little skittish when it comes to guys. She had a really terrible experience back home with an ex-boyfriend.” He said a flash of anger in his eyes. Someone had hurt her. I closed my eyes and did my best to hide the anger that rising inside of me. I knew that when I opened my eyes they would be glowing. I needed to get out of here. "We better go. I don’t want to be late to the party?” I said looking over at Stephen. Once we were in the car Stephen busted out laughing making me frown. "You finally found your mate and she's human. What’s funnier is that she looks like she's scared to death of you. I so wouldn't want to be you right now. Alexia is not going to like this one bit. You know how she's always been under the impression that she would be your mate.” It was rare to find our true mate but when you did there could never be anyone else. "Alexia does not have a say in this. She can never compare to my mate." I said glaring at him I knew that my mother was going to be so happy. My father on the other hand might not be. He wanted me to mate with Alexia so that we could bind our packs together. I pulled into the drive way and saw my mother standing at the door. She smiled her I know what happened smile at me. "Mom how can u already know it just happened." I said confused. "Lucas mothers know these things, call it intuition. I'm so happy for you son. When can I meet her?" "Well the thing is mom, she's human. She practically ran away after she met me.” I said with a frown. "Well son, I guess you're going to have to win her over with your good looks and charm, "she said with a grin. Carra's P.O.V Omg I had not reacted to any one like I had to Lucas since Adam. Even then my reaction hadn't been that strong. I guess I'm going to have to stay far away from him I thought with a frown. "So, sis what did you think of Lucas and Stephen?" "Um mm they seemed nice.” I answered truthfully. "It looks like Lucas may have a thing for you.” He teased. "Well that's just too bad for him. I don't want anything to do with boys ever again. Or at least for a while." "You can't just close yourself off to everyone Carra not everyone is like Adam." He said looking at me. "I know Eric, but he really scared me, and I'm still scared he's going to find me and hurt me again. Or any other guy I may get involved with. I just can't deal with all that right now." "I'm always going to be here for you sis." He said pulling me into a hug. "I know Eric.” I replied knowing he was telling me the truth. He hugged me tightly and kissed me on my forehead and left my room. He was so right I couldn't let Adam ruin my life and keep me from living. I guess it was back to school for me. I let out the breath I was holding and ran down the stairs to tell my parents before I chickened out. I was sleeping so well that I barley heard the banging on the door. "Carra wake up you're going to make us late." Eric yelled. "Uhhh 5 more minutes." "Carra now, or I'm going to drag you out of that bed. You can't be late your first day." "OK I'm getting up." I said hating that I had agreed to go back. I was ready in no time since I really didn't make much of an effort to look good. I really didn't want to draw any attention to myself. It was jeans a t-shirt flips flops and my hair pulled back in a ponytail. "Looking good sis." Eric joked. "Hey, I'm presentable, no one said I had to look like a super model". We pulled in to the parking lot and I couldn't help but be nervous. I looked at Eric who was watching for my reaction. "How about you just take me home.” I said anxiously. "How about you just get out of the car and at least give it a try." He pushed. "Alright," I said pushing my bangs to the side. For you I'll do it. Let's get this over with," I said as Eric got out and opened my door for me. We walked up the stairs and headed straight to the office. "Can I help you? An elderly lady asked. "Yes, today's my first day and I need my class schedule." I said nervously. "Give me a minute hone and I'll get it for you" she said smiling sweetly at me. While we waited for my schedule I tried not to look too nervous. But I'm not so sure I was pulling it off. "Here you go hone, hope you have a good first day" she said handing me my schedule which Eric yanked out of my hand. "Well sis we have 3 out of 5 classes together but first period isn't one of them. Are you going to be ok?" He asked . "Yea I think so, I mean how bad can it really be."
