Chapter 1

How do you break the heart of the one you love the most? I knew I needed to leave because it was best for her, but it didn’t make it any easier. I realized I was only 2 weeks from leaving and I couldn’t wait any longer. “Chase, what’s wrong? You look deep in thought.” Lillie looked up at me with her big blue eyes. “You know how much I want to get to know my Mom’s family in Alaska?” “Yes.” She said curiously. “Her old pack is in an extremely remote area.” “Yeah, like almost no cell service.” She said giggling. “I’m leaving a week before my 18th birthday to spend a year with them. I will get to stay with my great grandparents.” I spit out. I watched as her face showed her heart break. Heartbreak. That was all my fault. “Chase what are you talking about?” “My grandparents said I could come and stay with them.” “What about us?” “Lillie, love, we are mates, I don’t need to turn 18 to know it. We both know we are mates. We have known it since we were little. But I think….” “You think what?” I could hear the anger in her voice. “I think it will be good for us. We only know how life is together. I think we should learn what life apart is like.” “I don’t want to know life without you.” Tears formed in her eyes. I pulled her onto my lap. “I love you more than anything in this world. But have you ever realized everything you like is because I like it?” “That’s just stupid. I have my own opinions.” I smiled knowing she didn’t, but me being gone would force her to figure it out for herself. I wanted that for her. I want to spend the rest of my life with her. We were young and this would be the only chance I had to meet my family before we started our journey as a mated couple. “I know you do, baby.” I couldn’t stop myself. I pulled her into me and kissed her. My heart hurt to see her upset. We had known since we were kids that we were mates. I had known before she was born that she was my mate. She is the Alpha’s daughter and I remember telling Luna that she was having a girl even though the doctors told her she was only having a son. For as long as I could remember we would have dreams, where we would be able to talk to our wolves. We still do, but we stopped telling people when we were young. Nobody believed us and would say it was just a dream and nobody believed us. “I don’t want you to go. When you turn 18, we can finally prove to everybody you are my mate.” Lillie said, wrapping her arms around me and kissing my neck. “I need to go before I turn 18. I know the second I officially meet my wolf he will want to mark you.” “I don’t see the problem in that.” She said, pushing her long blond hair away from her face. “You are only 14. I can’t mark you at 14.” “I am not a child, Chase. I can handle it. And I turn 15 shortly after.” She said, giving me a pout which only made her look sexy.. She is always making things difficult for me. We had messed around when she turned 14, a lot, but we were waiting till we could mark each other to mate. “Lillie, I need to do this.” “What happens if you meet somebody else?” I couldn’t help but laugh. She was already my everything. No other woman stood a chance next to her. I quickly stopped laughing when I looked into her big blue eyes and realized she was being serious. “Lillian, you are my mate. There is no woman that could ever take me away from you.” “Lillie..Chase.” Alpha Jayson said as he made his way towards us. “Hi Daddy.” Lillie said, jumping off my lap and running to give him a hug. “Alpha Jayson.” I said, nodding at him. “Your mother is looking for the two of you.” We made our way into the packhouse. “Hi Mom.” Luna Jaclyn turned and smiled at us both. “I am so glad you both are here. I made dinner and thought the four of us could have dinner together.” I knew that this was Luna, making sure I told Lillie about me leaving. I found out yesterday and I only had two weeks left with her. Thankfully, Luan and Alpha agreed that Lillie needed to learn who she was without me and that the distance would be good for us. But it didn’t make it hurt any less. Dinner was quiet. I could tell my Lillie was still hurting and I felt like crap about it. “So, Chase, graduation is a week away. How are you feeling about it?” Luna Jaclyn asked me. “I am excited and I was just talking to Lillie about me leaving shortly after.” Alpha turned and looked at Lillie. “How do you feel about Chase leaving?” “I hate it. It already hurts and he hasn’t even left.” It felt like somebody stabbed me in the gut. The thought of me causing her pain was almost more than I could take. “I think it will be good for you. It can only make you stronger,” Alpha said without hesitation. “It’s only for a year and it will go by quickly.” I added, trying to build on why this could be a good thing. “You don’t think I am strong?” She said, looking at her Father. “I think you are plenty strong. I just think this will be good for the two of you.” The conversation ended. At that point I knew Lillie needed time to process the information. I kissed her goodnight and made my way home. “Hey Chase! How did the chat with Lillie go?” My little sister Bella asked. “As well as could be expected. She was really upset.” “Duh big brother. She loves you.” “And I love her. I just want her to know herself. We are going to spend forever together.” “I hope this works out for you.” She hugged me and walked upstairs and headed to bed. I followed shortly after. I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep knowing she was hurting. I was hoping to sleep so I could talk to my wolf. I knew he was going to be pissed, but I needed to explain to him why that’s what is best for her. I just hope she doesn’t end up hating me.
