Meet Black Knight

855 Words
Black Knight was sitting in her office at the Knight’s Keep. She was head in command, and has been for a many millennia. It has been said that she seems like a young, and a mature woman, all at the same time. The body of a woman in her 20s, the mind of an ancient Dark Fae whose exact age has been lost to time. She was short by all standards, but she held herself with a height of a mountain on the battlefield.  She wore a long black battle dress that has long since gone out of style, but she somehow always made it look timeless. Her long black hair was kept neatly into a low pony tail, as if a threat could be anywhere. Black Knight always wore her signature floor length black cloak, which shifted the very shadows of the room as she walked.  She was a Fairy of many talents, although if you call her a fairy she may bring lighting down upon you before you even blink. Black Knight could command almost every magic, although dark magic was her dear passion. Black Knight was not her true, birth given name, although that name has since been lost to the father of time. The Knight’s Keep she commands protects the magical universe from threats to its well-being. She prefers to remain completely neutral between all realms and dimensions, which also means she is the perfect mediator in times of conflict. Many regard her as the Queen of the magical world, simply because she and her followers cannot be commanded by any one entity. She is above the ‘law’ so to speak, since she was around long before it. Black Knight was at her desk, which was in the far corner of the spacious, nearly empty room. The whole room was dark, made of some dark brown nearly black wood. She had papers with various signatures and seals scattered around her desk, but she wasn’t really seeing any of them. Her attention was drifting out the window that looked into a peaceful forest, one which she has called home for many, many years. Or at least it was a forest she found peaceful. Most people wouldn’t dare venture into this forest, as it is home to Dark Beasts that only Dark Fae can communicate with. The longer she stared out into the forest, the more lost in thought she became. Until a quick rap on her door broke her reverie. She shifted her violet Fae eyes back to the papers on her desk, and without looking up at the door said “Enter.” A young appearing man walked into the room, her second in command. He has been with her nearly as long as she has commanded this keep, and she had a fondness for him she did not give to many people. As she looked up at her second, she neatly pushed her a strand of her long black hair that had escaped behind a neatly pointed ear. “What is it Elden?” She asked, trying to sound polite, but failing quite spectacularly. Her millennia of battle and tragedy has turned her into quite a jaded person. Formalities were hard for her, but she always at least tried to be nice to her loved ones. He smirked, knowing her too well, dark indigo eyes crinkling with humor. Elden took one of the two chairs in the room and spun it around, so he was straddling the back of it, facing her on eye level. He tousled his dark brown hair, and then looked at her rather seriously. “Did you forget what tonight is?” He asked, a note in his voice suggesting that she did not, in fact, forget anything. She hissed ever so slightly through her teeth. Elden sighed and continued, “Remember. This Ball is actually important for you. I know you hate social gatherings of any kind, but this is one you’ll just have to bear with.” Elden said, and Black Knight hated that she knew he was right. “The King of the Fae is an arrogant bastard. I don’t want to attend this frivolous gathering of his.” Black Knight complained, sounding much like a child, to which Elden laughed. She was normally the wisest being he knew, except when it comes to parties. She’d rather go to battle alone against a thousand soldiers than attend a party. “I’d like to point out, you have never actually met the Fae King. You always find some excuse to avoid his infrequent gatherings. Remember this is a celebration of the tonight’s Red Moon. All Dark Fae will be stronger tonight, and this hasn’t happened in a few thousand years. You are the most prominent Dark Fae. Your presence is expected.” Black Knight hated when he made sense. She sighed heavily and nodded in defeat. He smiled a perfect smile, fangs exposed. “Then let’s get you ready!”
